To the Mighty Pirate Football Team

Recommended Posts

I can't speak for everyone else but I can say from the people I know you have made everyone in Vidor extremely proud. Each and every one of you have given the community something it can never repay you for; a sense of pride for erasing the "loser" stigma, a sense of comradery for erasing a large part of the "racist" stigma with the greater Golden Triangle-befriending the predominant African American schools in Beaumont, and for playing with as much heart through all the adversity as I've ever seen a local sports team play. There are several great sports movies that have typified their towns and you are every bit one of those. Now, I'm calling you out! You played the most flawless game of football last Thursday as I've ever seen Vidor play in forty years. Prove that you are more than hype and repeat it this Friday!!! Show the naysayers and crybabies we deserve to be where we are!!! Remember #28!!!

Congradulations on a great season and shalacking of Crosby. Play like that again and you will advance to round 3. Becuase of your efforts, dedication to eachother and your ability to even show up after all you have been through this season, you have made everyone proud in the SETX Community. People will look at Vidor and not mention it's ugly past but the TEAM that endured and overcame tradgedy and negativity that united all. Thank You and continue your storied season. YOU ARE THE AUTHORS!

I'm leaving Vidor at 3 and following the bus so i'll probably be there around 5 or 6 something. I know we don't carry the capacity of PNG fans but i can guarantee you that we are just as crazy and prideful as they are.  8)

GO PIRATES!!  I am about as big of Pirate fan as one can get.  I never went to Vidor schools, I grew up in a neighboring town but one set of my grandparents lived in Vidor and I went to every football game with my great grandpa from the year I was born until my Jr year of high school.  I was raised on Vidor football and I miss it!  For the past two years I have driven back for Homecoming because I can't get enough of the Pirate spirit.  You are representing the area well and although I am over 800 miles away, I have on my Pirate t-shirt as I do every Friday night during football season.  Go out there and continue making us proud.  At this point we are VERY happy when you win but that is just an "extra", give it your BEST and we can't ask for more!!  I do however hope that opposing teams keep up that doubt because we laugh all the way to the goal post!!  GO PIRATES!!

    • Sure.  You reassign an employee and they leave voluntarily instead of being fired and being open to litigation.  The outcome is the same, but you are making my point.  The superintendent and AD and principal are all empowered to make personnel decisions.  Instead of accepting the decision made, you talk about lawyering up, no one else was reprimanded, railroad job.  I am old enough to remember when high school sports taught life lessons...accountability being chief among them.
    • I know absolutely nothing about the situation, but I do know head coaches of sports other than the AD have actual teaching assignments, and I know from my wife having worked in the sped department of multiple schools that it’s not uncommon at all for coaches to shirk those duties.  It could very well be that this was the case at BC.  Or not, I don’t know.  Just bringing this up to point out the fact that, although many coaches only want to worry about coaching, they generally have several other responsibilities at the school.  some of them neglect or ignore these duties entirely.  If he’s been written up for other issues before, it’s a dumb argument to say “he was punished for this and others were not”.  If he had a pile of write ups in his file and they did not then it makes sense that the punishments were different.
    • He wasn’t fired, he was reassigned and people get reassigned all the time. If he was actually fired, then you would have a point, but he wasn’t fired. Based on the information presented here no way this would stand if they fired him and he lawyered up.
    • I heard the assistant was going to get this job and assume it was referring to the old Vidor coach, Nate Smith.  I always thought he did more with less at Vidor and can't help but think he shares some responsibility in Vidor's recent success.
    • Classic Bridge City.  Always someone else's fault, refs/umpires cheated, AD with an agenda, yada, yada, yada.  As far as I can tell it's damn near impossible to get fired at these schools so when someone does get fired, it's usually something.  Drama at Bridge City is a constant.  The guy did a good job coaching basketball and I'm sure he'll continue that somewhere else.  Time to move on.
