So there are two assumptions out there:
1. Vidor thinks everyone is their rival,
2. No one thinks twice about, "cares about", or considers Vidor their rival.
As a pirate fan I love it. Strategically speaking, this would put us at a definite advantage in any given competition. Honestly, which mindset would you rather your players have?

By the way, I like the Redman vs Whiteman Bowl.

I don't think anyone's said that Vidor thinks everyone is their rival or that a team should overlook Vidor, especially not this year. I think all that's been said is that Vidor's so-called "rivalry" isn't really a rivalry. It's just Vidor hating Nederland more than the other teams on its schedule while Nederland looks at Vidor the same way as five its other district opponents.
To most people "hating" a team makes them your rival.
To most people, the other team hating you back makes them your rival.
Not really. Serena and Venus Williams love each other off the tennis court. But on the court they are fierce rivals.
We're not talking about tennis and siblings playing each other individually, we're talking about football and teams. Different situations.
It doesn't matter what the situation is. The definition of rivals are the same no matter what sport.
A rivalry implies mutual feelings between the involved parties. With siblings competing in an individual sport, that's much easier to establish and stems from their common backgrounds and circumstances. That's much harder to establish for football teams and schools in general. Nederland does not view Vidor in the same respect that Vidor views Nederland. Therefore, no rivalry exists.
This is just a continuing circle Bamakid. Your definition of rivaly's and my definition differ. I think it doesn't take both parties to think there is one for there to be one. If one team looks at another team as there rival then that is a rivalry IMO.
Maybe so.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines rival as "one of two or more striving to reach or obtain something that only one can posses."  and rivalry as "the act of rivaling: the state of being a rival."  That to me is pretty clear that each party is an equal in this endeavor to obtain what the other wants.  So, if a team doesn't see you as a rival you are not equally invested in the outcome.  Therefore, there can be no rivalry.  I gotta side with Bamakid on this one.

P.S.  For all you Vidor fans, a dictionary is a big book that explains the meanings of words.  ;D

One of two or more striving to reach or obtain something that only one can posses. Aka two teams looking to get a win in a football game. Sounds like what happens every friday night so if you wanna go by that definition then each and every football team that plays each other can be considered a rivalry.

That is true, but we all know that every sporting event is not considered a rivalry.  So we have to imply that what truly makes a competition a rivalry is trying to obtain those bragging rights.  And if you don't consider a team your rival then you don't care about the bragging rights.

Personally I don't think so.  But that's just me.  I know when I play in softball or basketball leagues I want to win every game, but there are those games that seem like the wins mean so much more, and the losses are so crushing.  And I think that is essential for both teams to feel that way for it to be a true rivalry.

The Nederland "Wannabes" vs The Vidor Pirates
That doesn't make any sense. I have never met someone from PNG that wants to be like or be a Bulldog... PNG doesn't do anything like them either.

I personally like "Clash of the Ned Haters" or "Ned Haters United Bowl"

look vidor will always hate png and nerderland, in reality being from vidor i think that most vidor people are a little jealous of the fact that just about every year png and nederland are in the playoffs with a decent team and vidor makes the playoffs every 5 years or so, when i was in school we always got up to play png and nederland but never did i think that they felt the same way we did, vidor is the red head step child that nobody wants to play with, and vidor will never have a true rival cause it wants so bad to be rivals with png and nederland that it wont let any other school be rivals, such as lumberton, or lcm but at the end of the day friday vidor will still hate png and png will not really care either way

Amen. That's one thing that stats or recruiters or anything can measure is heart. Its the one thing that makes a good team a great team. And these Vidor players sure do have a lot of it. Especially after what happened to Matt.

Vidor not only has heart this year but they have DETERMINATION, they want it for Matt.  GO PIRATES!!

EASY Bamkid you are throwing some big words around!

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
