I was at this scrimmage (the reason why Grad got the stats ;D). Thank goodness for the rain to blow in. I don't know if those kids could have done another 2 more quarters in that heat.(besides, I was getting hungry and hot myself).

My take on Kirbyville, once again their offensive line play was very good. Other than 1 sack, QB had plenty of time to throw(the few times they did throw) and they created some running lanes for Ford and co. to run through. Ford had about 165 yards rushing on 14 carries, had two runs of 57 and 63 yards, the latter one a TD run. Other than that, Fred looked a little timid still with his running but he will work through that eventually.

As for the Wildcat defense, what a difference a week makes. The defence from last week to this week was night and day. After blitzing at least 95% of time last week against Silsbee, Kirbyville played it very vanilla this week, only blitzing about 4 times out of the 35 offensive plays Ozen ran. Coaches told me they did not want to show too much this week with the Coldspring ccoaches up in the stands.

My assessment on Ozen, offensively, they have a good QB in Green as he can really sling it. He made some very good throws to his speedy recievers who continously got behind the Wildcat defenders. Three touchdown passes of 71, 65, and 86 yards showed that Ozen is very capable of the big play. But, they may need that big play too often. The Panthers never could establish any kind of running attack and I would have really liked to have seen Kirbyville bring the pressure to Green and see what the outcome would have been.

As for the Ozen defense, they have a lot to work on. Giving up over 350 yards and 4 TD's in just 2 quarters of play is not the kind of dfense that Nelson wants to have. Kirbyville actually missed a few times on some open recievers or they could have score a few other times. Ozen definitely needs work on their run defense.

I do believe had the weather not shut it down, Ozen probably would have faired better in the second half. Kirbyville looked spent as they had played everybody and it looked as though Ozen still had fresh players on their sidelines. It was inevitable that a 400 enrollment school Kirbyville to eventually tire going up against a 1200 enrollment Ozen. Wildcats suited out 24 players on varsity today, Panthers had 44. In 95 degree heat going four 12 minute quarters, I like the team with the 44 players. ;)

ozen should win this easily..
Hey Supermario, i thought Ozen was going to win the scrimmage "easily" as you stated recently. You will learn soon or later that Kirbyville is about business on the football field son!

Great assessment AWW.  I was there fresh from the gym.  I wasn't impressed with Ozen letting a 4 kids above 3A school play them so tough.  I think they will struggle again this year w/o a proven, old school, running game.  That spread is for those with Olinemen with quick feet....

I am glad that Kirbyville got to see a team with speed at the WR position.  That was the biggest question over the last couple of yrs.
Very true Lefty..Secondary is still a problem, Cucancic can't cover them all..And He has pretty good speed..And SFA85 Kirbyville now has an enrollment of around 410..Not 432..So actually Kirbyville is a 2A school playing 3A ball,But the experience has got to help them, playing with the Big Boys.. ;)

Some of you are [s]stu[/s] mistaking when you assume that just because kville was 2a and now 3a that the kids can't play.  Ford would start for any team in the golden triangle.  Daingerfield (2A) would beat almost every team in our area. stop ,what's the word--dissin, the small schools.  imo - EVERY 3A SCHOOL, and would make the playoffs in the 4A district!!!

Actually I HATE Kirbyville from way back.  I do like the coaches and do not hold the past against this group of kids.  I don't ease into anything.  Thats one of the things wrong with the country - 2 many people worry about stepping on toes instead of saying how they really feel.

I think kville will dominate this scrimage. as for them vs 20-4A. I think they would make playoffs at least.... 20-4A teams run the spread.... their D is not set up for kville's O. It is hard to adjust for one week....Kville would control the clock the whole game......
They may be short in numbers but I have seen these men... they are big, fast, talented and experenced.... not to many kids even in 4A can run a 4.3 forty like ford....they could hang with the big boys...
Central ...Ozen...Livingston..Vidor..Lumberton..Run out of power I most of the time I think..Could be mistaken
