Your Best Highschool Football Teams that fell just short

Recommended Posts

Our 2004 team with Dustin Hood at the helm was the best I have seen that I thought should have gone farther than Jacksonville.

Our 2000 team with Joe Ramoin should have beaten Bay City and gone much farther too.

Our 2001 team with William Delage that played in the semis (like badndn said about his PNG team) did not fall short to Smithson Valley. SV moved up to 5A the following year and played for state. That's how tough they were.
I think if the broncos could've got by La Marque in '98, i really think we could've had a state championship under our belt. also if the broncos would've not made the late game mistakes in 2008, i think we could've had 2 state championships under our belt. but like i said, could've. hmmmmmmm.  :'(

I disagree. I think had Dayton beaten LaMarque in the regional semis, I strongly feel that Silsbee would have beaten Dayton in the regional finals. I think Silsbee was really playing well through the playoffs and was really wanting that rematch from district. I think the Tigers would have prevailed had those two met in the regional finals. But, we'll never know.

I thought Silsbee outplayed LaMarque in the regional finals, just did not capitalize on a couple of opportunities down in the redzone. Got down to the 5 and fumbled on first and goal, and then got down to the 2 and couldn't punch it in. Couple that with a blocked field goal returned for a TD and an interception returned down to the 4 yard line, and LaMarque got the breaks to win the game. Silsbee outgained LaMarque in that game by over 150 yards, just had the breaks not go their way.

Good assessment AAW.  I was doing local radio that year.  We held our own with LaMarque that year in the dome but it got away from us at the end.  Actually, I thought the Tigers played their best game the week before in the Dome against El Campo - it was darn near the "Perfect game."  I believe that the Tigers would have beaten LaMarque with their "El Campo" game.  But, we didn't and that's sad.

Hey don't take your anger out on me because WOS lost out in the first round to Coldspring and your glory days are coming to an end. I think it's safe to change     your mascot from a Mustang to a T-Mac! (McGrady has never been past the first round of the playoffs). AHHEEMMMM!!  ;D ;D ;D

I seem to recall a punt that was muffed inside the 10 yd line.  What's the rule?  Never, never field a punt inside the 10!  I never thought of that year as your bad, kicker.  There was a kid that could run really, really fast but couldn't catch a cold!

Also the
1990
and
1991 Teams..Those were some Good Defense..They Had Multiple Shut-outs each year
wasnt McElroy and Hopper on one of those teams?
It was 91 football season with McElroy because I was on the 91 West Brook team that should've won state( I know everybody says the same thing about their team). We beat people bad throughout the season and then had a thriller Beaumont Bowl game where we had a 4 down goal line stance inside the 5 yard line to win the game. We were ranked #4 in state, and rumors had people picking us to go all the way. James Brown and Frank Middleton were juniors on the team. Our team was loaded that year and had the talent to go all the way. It doesn't mean anything if you go 10-0 in regular season and at the top of the rankings in offense and defense if you lose the first playoff game. Aldine MacArthur beat us in Pasadena and everybody was shocked. Oh well, I have three boys so hopefully once they get in HS one of them will get a chance to get one.

Well, it was probably the worst game we played all season. Im not sure how many turnovers we had, but it was a bunch. We win and lose as a team. I know it shouldnt have come down to that but i still feel personally responsible for it.

2007 Humble Wildcats:

-Lost in the second round versus hightower.
-A defensive struggle that ended in a 13-14 heartbreaker.
-Size and speed were evident in our team that year.
2 behemoths on the defensive line. DT Jonah Lavatai (Samoan) 6'1 305 and DT LaMarc Strahan 6'4 315
-safety's Billy Bell (5'11 195) and Thaxton Francis (6'0 200)

A last second pick six ended our season.

Im gonna go small school in this one:  Colmesneil vs Evadale

both teams undefeated in district playin for the 23A championship.
had a nice setting too with the fog covering the whole field.

that one came down to inches as Colmesneil went for it on 4th down and missed the first by about 3 in. with 6 seconds left in the game. All Evadale had to do was kneel it out. Talk about classic game. As a player ill never forget that game, or the nightmare that came soon after with the beating we took from Mart 60-7. That game was not fun for me to play in. But we never gave up & gave it our all all the way to end. Cant ask for anymore than that.

    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
    • See why I don't trust my Hogs?
    • Come on dude, don’t take anything away from the kids on the field. If you want to talk uncharacteristic, we made what 3 or 4 errors in game one. Y’all had 2 EARNED runs.  Defense is normally our strong suit. Your ace didn’t strike out a single one of our kids. Like I said also, you did not out hit us in game 1. Hell you barley out hit us in game 2. We had all the uncharacteristic walks. Josh pitched a hell of a game is what made that game what it was.
