TexasTerror Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 Not sure what this is about, but did not see a thread here. One of our KatFans posted that "Lamar University will start charging 2% of the total payment or $3, whichever is higher, on payments to student's University account."http://www.katfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10699
Guest coachacola Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 It's on the Lamar.edu website:
The convenience fee is intended to allow Lamar to recover the direct costs charged to the university by the credit card companies. The university’s cost for accepting credit cards had grown to more than $400,000 a year
.
Many other universities have begun charging fees for the convenience of using credit cards, including campuses of the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M System. Lamar University students will not be assessed a convenience fee on payments made by cash, check or debit card. Students also can avoid a convenience fee by taking advantage of a new electronic check option. The fee will not apply to payments made with a university-issued Cardinal One card, which is used for student refunds and can be used as a debit card.
There are many options to pay for school without having to use a credit card.http://www.lamar.edu/newsevents/news/207_8192.htm

Only use it for ID purposes.
