Guest mffl Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 It's been over a year that Leslee Smith moved from his home in the British Virgin Islands to the United States. With the hopes and dreams of playing collegiate basketball in America, the word is slowly but surely leaking out about Smith. Doherty has liked what he's seen from Smith thus far.A strong summer on his AAU team helped out tremendously. It was a tournament in Las Vegas where SMU head coach Matt Doherty first saw the 6-foot-7, 245-pound wing."I got a call after the tournament," said Smith. "I was excited. My coaches were all telling me that after that tournament I'd be getting some offers because of my performance. I was glad that they called me."Without having any idea of SMU's location or knowing much about the program, Smith wanted to look into it a little more. A few weeks later, he made the trip from Humble to the Hilltop."I thought that it'd be interesting and at the same time I took an unofficial visit. It was a good opportunity to work out and see the campus. I got there on Saturday morning pretty early."The Humble Christian Life senior also felt that it'd be a great chance to earn an offer with the coaching staff after playing in front of them. It turns out that he was right."After the camp, I talked to Coach Matt and he said that he would definitely offer me a scholarship. He said that I have a good feel for the game and he likes me as a player and a person. He thinks that I could do well if I came to SMU."With offers now from the Mustangs, Lamar and McNeese State, Smith has also picked up a recent offer from USC."They offered right after our tournament in Los Angeles, it was the Double Pump tournament. I was out there and went and visited the school, too."It's nice to have several options and that's what Smith has picked up in a short amount of time. To the wing / center, there's one school that's currently sticking out above the rest."I guess the coaches at SMU make me feel more comfortable and I got a chance to see his coaching style. They're on top of my list because I know how Coach Matt coaches and I'm comfortable with that."Smith still looks forward to visiting a few more programs and does not plan on committing until the late signing period.
Guest mffl Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Well after a little research, according to this site and a couple others, Smith has committed to SMU.http://www.allkyhoops.com/2009/10/leslee-smith-to-smu.html
Guest coachacola Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 I'm surprised that Roc has any more scholarships to give. He already has 2, maybe 3 commits already for next year.
