Hey Grad

I have a question on the math in the lower poll.

Kirbyville loss to WOS (#1 in lower poll) and they move up two places in the poll

Silsbee loss to Lumberton (#1 in upper poll) and they drop a place in the poll

oh and to add to the confusion Evadale wins and moves up one in the poll, but are the lowest ranked undefeated team in either poll even with wins against two 2A schools.

Not expecting Evadale to be #1 mind you, but I am a bit confused expecially with the two place jump up by Kirbyville after a loss.

Ohio State dropped after their loss to USC a higher ranked team. Just wondering how a team moves up with a loss even if it is to a higher ranked team?

I know that this a a bit of a cop out...but it is just like Gabe mentioned last week...we are still trying to get a feel of these teams and where they stand in the rankings.  Perhaps others in the poll put a lot of stock in the manner of the loss of the respective teams, Kirbyville taking WO-S to overtime and in fact holding the lead late into the game as opposed to the Lumberton/Silsbee game which although close as well, was a game in which the Raiders lead almost throughout.

As to your beloved Rebels (and no sarcasm or condescention intended), well....I'll be frank....it will just take a 1-A team little longer to get up the ranks than it would a 3A team or even a 2A team to rise. You should take the mere fact that Evadale is the only area 1A team to be ranked as a testiment as to how impressed the voters are with the Rebs.

Da Brook got hammered this past week and holds onto the number 2 spot?  Someone please explain.

Simple.....despite the loss, some think that West Brook is still the best big school team in the area, as was witnessed by three first place votes.  Would you put them behind Central who, although they have earned their high spot in the rankings, fell to West Brook in Week 2?  Such is the quandry of a rankings pollster.

We win granted against an atrocious team but we fall behind Kelly?

Well, this is a little tougher.  Both have losses to highly ranked teams (Kelly to Vidor and EC to Newton). Both teams held the games close for about one half.  I think this one was six one way, half a dozen the other.  I wouldn't be surprised if these teams flip-flop.

Can you give us the list of teams 5A/4A Poll that get ranked? Also the list for 3A/2A/1A/Privates Poll. Like in all other polls you know who you are up against. W.B. and P.A.M. seem to be the only 5a teams in this. The whole 20-4a is in and just 2 outside in the Houston area. The story kinda goes for the small school also.

We only rank our local districts. Only WB and PAM in 21-5A, all of 20-4A, only Dayton, Barbers Hill and Crosby of 19-4A

All of 21-3A and 22-3A, Jasper of 18-3A, all of 23-2A, Kirbyville, Newton, and Woodville of 22-2A, New Waverly and Corrigan-Camden, all of 23-1A, Bmt. Kelly and Legacy.

That doesn't make since. If you only rank our local districts Dayton, Barbers Hill and Crosby is not local. District 21-5A is local with no other teams but WB and PAM that are local. Me and bobcat4life went through this last year. I wish you would add me to the group of the zoning area or coverage area or what ever it is. I have an idea not saying its better than everything else that has been done, but I bet you would ponder it around awhile. S.E. Texas football is serious to alot of people on here. Even though this poll doesn't mean a thing, its like the BCS poll it needs help.

I meant that we only do the local districts with the inclusion of those three teams from 19-4A, plus other teams that are in our area but are in other districts.

Think it in terms of the Channel 6 viewing area with the addition of those three teams west of the Trinity. Actually, we have expanded our ranking coverage this fall.

Why don't you give me your rendition of how it should be done and what teams should be covered?

I have an idea  ???

Make the votes, with board names, and schools they follow/attended public when you post the ranking.  A little accountability would be nice.  Might even include an explination for why they voted for each team.  If nothing else could foster an interesting discussion, such as why west brook could  get hammered and be ahead of Vidor or why Kirbyville has to win state to move up.  I know someone, (WOSGRAD I think) said some people think west brook is the best big school in the area, but who and why.

Are these all mid-county voters, all Orange county voters, all east texas voters, Beaumont voters?????????

Last few years there was a recorded message with the ranking and explination, which was good.

Just a suggestion.

Grad, don't give in to the BS. Keep doing what you guys are doing. It's just a Poll of local writers and fans. It means absolutely nothing, but fun food for thought in the grand scheme. Unless we go to a BCS system for Ditrict titles, then what difference does it make how they vote? ::)

Keep up the good work SETXSports Mods!

I agree, give it some time to even out. If their team is good they will stay up or come back up in the poll. If their team stinks then they will quit complaining anyway.

;D You know what these polls are good for?  For people to get on here and make fools of themselves, like me.  I do not think Vidor is the number 3 team in this area.  To high.

But, you guys do a really great job.

We have voters from all areas that have seen several teams.  Also, Westbrook is no. 2 in the rankings because they lost to a very good Wesfield team that are historically good.  They would mop the floor with any of the big school teams on the list with very little effort...

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
