Sprinters

Hurdlers

Relay Teams

Jumpers

PA had the blazing fast Hurdler a few years ago, and Bryan Bronson from Jasper ran the hurdles in the olympics.

Relay Team you have to mention Jasper's 39.9 team.

Triple Jump Jasper had a kid set the State Record a few years ago at the state meet and come in 2nd at the same meet :)

High Jump couple 7 foot jumpers come to mind.

I was at the meet in Tarkington when Eisbach set one of his many records.

Sprinters Jamaal Charles most recent, but there have been many state champs in the area.

Without a doubt, the most successful and most dominant track athlete in this area to graduate recently is Aaron Brannen of BC. His PR's were 9:39; 4:20; and 1:59. His senior year he was state champ in Cross, the 2 mile, and the 1 mile. His Junior year he was runner up in all three.

Also without a doubt, the most successful and dominant track athlete in HS right now is Drew Bean of LCM. He's been breaking Aaron's records, and is closing in on a sub 15 minute three mile. He is by far the most disciplined hard working HS athlete in the area.

On a side note, the greatest race I ever saw was these two guys racing in the mile at OF. They were neck and neck the entire way, with Aaron narrowly outkicking the younger Bean to win by one second. (4:20 - 4:21)

Jonathan Smith from Ozen could have been a great one if he would have had the right attitude. Saw him split about 46.8 at TSU on the mile relay. Young man could run.

Wallace Franklin is another he did some amazing things as a highschool track athlete. If he got the stick and was behind he didnt stay there. He went and got everybody he ran against bar none.

  • 3 months later...

I think with Leidy and Labove and Celestine and Dartez their strongest event this year will be the 4x200. fair 4x100 and a fair 4x400 im afraid they will be short 1 leg for these two relays.

Their strongest event may be the 4x200 but they still wont be able to compete with the speed Central will have on their 4x200.. thats why I think they should be better  off concentrating on a strong 4x400, where they could really on their strength and conditioning that Coach Young is famous for...

Thats the problem i dont know who will run the other 2 legs on the 4x400. Leidy and Javin arent 400 m runners. But i agree they will have a hard time competing in the sprint races with Central. However the 4x200 envolves speed and strength that is a good mixture of what Ozen has 2 offer this year. Javin and Leidy being good sprinters and Celestine and Labove both giving good legs because their strength from being quarter milers.

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
