LU head coach Steve Roccaforte said Dawkins played the entire season with a fractured big toe on his left foot, and the injury might require surgery.

"I think it affected him a lot," said Roccaforte, whose team finished the season 15-15 overall and 6-10 in the Southland. "His game is based on speed and quickness."

Although Dawkins posted a team-leading 15.2 points per game, Roccaforte said the toe injury affected Dawkins' shooting accuracy.

Dawkins made 40.3 percent of his shots this season, down from 44.1 in the 2007-08 season. Dawkins per-game scoring average increased this season from 14.6.

Although the season began in November, Roccaforte pointed to a moment in Saturday's game as the story of the season.

"I think that from about the 9-minute mark in the second half that was kind of a microcosm of the second half of our season," Roccaforte said. "Your tight rotation of, generously, nine (players) becomes seven."

Starting guard Ashton Hall went to the bench with about 11 minutes left in the game because of leg cramps and couldn't return. His replacement Skyler Williams was tagged with a technical foul moments later. Jay Brown fought foul trouble and eventually fouled out.
