BH 2    MANVEL 3

BH         2 runs, 5 hits, 1 error

MANVEL  3 runs, 5 hits, 1 error

Rocha - 7 ip, 5 hits, 3 runs

Carmona - 2-3, 2-run HR, BB, 2 rbi, 2 sb

Padgett  - 1-4, 1 run, sb

Henscey - 1-3, Double, BB

Peterson - 1-2, Double, BB

A well played game by both teams. It all came down to who hit the ball with runners in scoring position. Manvel wins the game in the bottom of the 7th with a base hit scoring a runner from 2nd. BH left 7 runners on base and 4 of those were in scoring position with less than 2 outs. Manvel only left 1 runner on base for the game. Rocha pitched a good game without his best stuff. We just couldn't seem to get the big hit with runners on base. This was definitely a team loss for both the players and coaches. We didn't hit the ball with runners on base and we made some decisions that didn't work out well. Everyone needs to accept their part of the responsibility for this loss. IMO this team has got to get back to having fun both playing the game and coaching the game. The excitement and fire that I watched in the first 3 scrimmages and first 3 games has disappeared. I'm not sure what is going on inside the fences, but something has got to change to get the excitement back! I would consider this a small bump in the road. This is a very talented group and I still expect them to make a run deep into the playoffs.  I'm a firm believer that your true character and strength is revealed when things aren't going well. I'm looking forward to seeing the character of the players and coaches and to see what this team is made of. This is a tight knit group of kids and I would expect them to put all of the BS to the side and get this thing going in the right direction.

I'm hoping to see them get this thing turned around this weekend in the Ewell Jackson Tournament! A great challenge for the team!

BH 8  ALDINE 2 - EWELL JACKSON TOURNAMENT

BH          8 RUNS, 9 HITS, 0 ERRORS, 9 LOB

ALDINE    2 RUNS, 2 HITS, 1 ERROR, 5 LOB

Overall a good win for BH. Still leaving too many runners on base but we're also still tinkering with the lineup a little. Hopefully we'll start getting a few more timely hits with runners on base and we can get the batting order solidified. Daniel Mitchell had a very good outing on the mound picking up the win and Jared Baker was very sharp in relief. The defense once again was very solid with no errors.

Daniel Mitchell - 5 ip, 2 hits, 2 runs, 3 bb, 2 k

Jared Baker    - 2 ip, 0 hits, 0 runs, o bb, 3 k

The offensive leaders of the game were:

Padgett - 2-3, double, 2 runs, 1 bb, 2 sb

Ponder  - 2-3, 1 bb

Burditt  - 1-2, triple, 1 run, 2 bb, 1 rbi

BH 5   HIGHTOWER 11

Peterson - 4 ip, 9 runs, 6 hits, 3 bb, 3 k

Baker      - 2 ip, 1 run, 2 hits, 2 k

BH crept back into the game cutting the lead to 5-2 before Mitchell gave way to Jared Baker to start the bottom of the 4th inning. Baker put PNG down in order in the 4th with 2 Ks and a pop-up to 1st, but PNG unloaded another 5 runs on 4 hits in the 5th with a 2R and a 3R homerun.

LCM TOURNAMENT

BH 3    LCM 8

Tony Carmona got the start on the mound in this one. Carmona was tagged with the loss but pitched more than good enough to win. Carmona gave up 6 runs but only 1 of them was earned. LCM got 4 runs in the 1st inning with only 1 run earned. The other 3 scored on a dropped fly ball with 2 outs and the bases loaded. BH battled back to within 4-2 in the 3rd with Padgett and Carmona starting the inning off with singles and Henscey driving both of them in with a 2-run triple. BH was unable to get Henscey in from 3rd with no outs. BH added another run in the top of the 4th after Padgett hit a 2-out double to left center and Carmona drove him in with an rbi single. LCM put the game out of reach in the btm of the 4th when an error on a routine ground ball extended the inning and allowed LCM to score 3 more runs.

LCM TOURNAMENT

BH 7    ORANGEFIELD 6

This was a fun game to watch. BH brought up a couple of kids from the JV to help out with pitching for this tournament due to the district games. Freshman Kyle Leggett got the start in this one. A daunting task for a freshman with his first varsity appearance being against a 3A state ranked team. Leggett didn't allow any of this to bother him. Leggett surprised everyone with a 7 inning complete game win. Leggett helped himself with a 2-out rbi single in the 2nd inning helping BH to a 4 - 0 lead. Leggett showed a lot of composure after giving up that 4 run lead in the btm of the 2nd with 3 walks, 2 hbp, and a 2-R HR. Freshman Kody Thompson, who was also brought up from JV, helped his teammate out with a 2-out rbi single of his own in the 3rd to help BH regain the lead. Leggett came back with a vengance in the btm. of the 3rd by striking out the side on 12 pitches. Heath Padgett extended the lead to 6-4 with a leadoff HR in the 4th. Leggett held that margin until the bottom of the 6th when LCM got one back with a solo HR. Colby Henscey lead off the 7th with a solo HR which ended up being the game winner, giving Leggett the cushion he would need to finish the game. LCM got 1 run back on an error by Thompson at 3rd on a ground ball but Leggett was able to finish the game after a nice bases loaded 5U-3 DP from Thompson to redeem himself and a game ending strikeout from Leggett.

PITCHING

Leggett - 7 ip, 6 hits, 6 runs 5 earned, 4 bb, 4 k, 2 hbp

OFFENSE

Lyday - 4 for 4, 2 runs, 2b

Padgett - 1 for 3, HR, rbi, 2 runs, hbp

BH 13    C.E. KING 8

Colby Henscey got BH off to a good start ripping a 2-out solo HR in the top of the 1st for a 1-0 lead. That would be short lived with C.E. King getting 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st with 3 consecutive doubles and an rbi single off of starter Daniel Mitchell. BH tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the 2nd courtesy of a walk and an error and ground out RBIs from Peterson and Thompson. C.E. King jumped back on top 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the 2nd. King would extend the lead in the btm. of the 3rd chasing Mitchell from the game after a 2b and a 2-R HR to start the inning. Jared Baker came on in relief and allowed 2 runs on 2 singles and 2 walks before settling down and getting out of the inning with C.E. King taking an 8-3 lead. B.H. really stepped up and showed their mental toughness by getting right back in the game. Matt Peterson started things off with a great at bat with 1-out ripping a single into right field. After our next hitter struck out, Padgett coaxed a walk after getting behind 0-2 in the count and then Tony Carmona came through with a clutch 2-out 3-R HR to get BH right back in the game at 8-6. Jared Baker shut C.E. King down for the remainder of the game allowing only 2 singles to get the win after B.H. exploded for 7 runs in the 5th inning to put the game out of reach. Cody Clifton had an rbi single in the inning and Padgett and Henscey both got RBIs with bases loaded walks giving BH the 10-8 lead leaving the bases loaded with 2 outs. Up stepped Tyler Lyday for the second time in the inning for one of the biggest hits of the night. Lyday had started the inning off with a lead off single. Lyday put the game out of reach clearing the bases as he ripped a 3-run double to the right center field gap for the final runs of the game.

PITCHING

Mitchell  -  2 ip, 6 hits, 6 runs, 1 bb, 1 k

Baker - WP -  5 ip, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 bb, 4 k

LCM TOURNAMENT

BH-15   ORANGEFIELD-4

BH picked up right where they left off from the C.E. King game. Tony Carmona got things started off with a 1-out double in the btm. of the 1st. Colby Henscey followed that up with a 2-Run blast to the left-center power alley ( his 3rd HR in 3 games ). BH would put 3 more runs on the board in the 1st after a Peterson HBP, a Lyday single, and a big 3-R HR from Alex Rocha to give BH an early 5-0 lead that would continue to grow throughout the game. Alex Rocha would get the win on the mound with the help of some solid defense including a couple of double plays. The combo of Carmona to Clifton would turn one, and after the subs came on in the 5th, Brandon Wright and Kyle Leggett would turn another. BH tacked on 3 more runs in the 2nd with hits from Henscey, Peterson, Rocha, and Ponder. Orangefield would get 3 back in the 3rd on a 3-R HR to cut the lead to 8-3, but BH would tack on 3 more in the bottom of the 3rd with a Padgett walk, Carmona double and a double from Henscey off of the left field fence. BH put 4 more runs on the board in the 4th inning after inserting several subs into the game. After 2 outs, Blaine McDonald, Padgett, and Kyle Leggett would walk, McDonald scoring on a passed ball. Burditt would enter the game to hit for Henscey and hit the first pitch over the left field wall for a 3-R HR to end the scoring for BH. Daniel Mitchell would pitch the final inning allowing 1 run to end the game.

Good right up the team seems to be rolling right now. We need no negatives to slow us down. Eveyone needs to stay focused the rest of the ride from top to bottom its all about the team no tme for individualism or politics. The team has to come first

I have not lived here long but have heard the rumble. And from the looks of RIP09 stats it must be true. I need a BHISD job.

I would play the BEST 9. Period!

If a senior is just "cruising" because he "paid his dues", I call BS! There are no guarantees in life. Just because you had to supposedly wait your turn, does not mean you do not have to perform to keep your spot.

We need to prepare these young men for the real world!

Competition breeds success!

Well said Patriot117.....

ponder, carmona, rocha, and padgett.  were all once fresh and soph on varsity...  :o  whos spots did they take at that time????

Since you ask Ponder freshman was wasted  he was a bullpin catcher

Carmona sophomore year he played because the Senior shortstop tore his ACL

Rocha sophomore year was wasted setting the bench

Padgett  sophomore was wasted setting the bench

I do not think you gain anthing by setting on the bench a year you need to be playing in games not watching from the bench but that's just my thoughts

Mustang you made a valuable point sitting is like quitting, you only get better by being in the game practicing with Varsity sometimes is not all it's cut out to be. You guys over their at BH seem to be coming around so don't let the politics play a part of what you are trying to accomplish. Who ya'll got next?
