This is the most ridulous thing Ive ever seen?  I dont know what kind of system they used to come up with these but its not right!  BCS could have done better than this.  Politics

To add a little fuel to the fire that has been set I have run a few stats.  Sorry no defensive stats.  Couldn't find any.

A Hazelwood-QB

106 - 182  58% completion  2119 yrds  20yd/comp.  25TDs  9 INTs

B. Jackson-RB/FS

154 - 1145  7.43 yds/rush  14 TDs  not to mention that he was a beast on Defense along with Walters!

R. Musgrove-WR/DB

50rec. - 870 yds  17.4yds/catch  14 TDs

I am sorry but if you have a team that gets to the DI title game in any classification you probably have more than 3 players that have the stats to be at least 2nd team All-State!  No disrespect to Anahuac but the only person I saw on that team worthy of All-State was D. McNeil.  Not to mention that Newton had a few other players that most likely deserved the honor!  It is a crying shame that these boys put in the hard work to do what they did this yr and poof they lose by 22pts and they don't deserve to be 1st or 2nd team.  Just goes to show you that these so called experts that vote don't read the box scores.  They just look at the final and make a "educated guess"!  Reminds me of last year when P. Rhodes got honorable mention when he ran for 1900 yds!  As Ryker said, Politics, politics, politics!!!  It is a shame!  Ok, I'll get off the soap box ;)

You know as I spoke to my husband about this I told him this is why I dont think its right to pull starters out in the 2nd or 3rd quarter or 4th for that matter. These so called experts are obvioulsy going by numbers and our kids numbers hurt for the fact they had to be pulled so we wouldnt run the score up on other teams. Now how fair is that to them now? Just rediculous..not to mention, Rhodes and Jackson played both sides of the ball..so if these kids were the only backs, and only played one side of the ball...they would have had higher yardage... guarantee! And how come we dont have anyone voting from our area? That doesnt seem fair at all!!!

Back in the 1990s, I was in charge of putting together the Associated Press Sports Editors Class A all-state football team. It was back when Burkeville was running all over everybody ... Basically, all the sportswriters nominated players from their area and I combined all into a ballot. Ballots would then go out and everyone would vote.

At the time, I covered local Class A teams for The Enterprise, so I made sure that our local guys were nominated and represented. In the end though, when you have 10 writers in Dallas or Houston or Austin or San Antonio all voting their local guys, it's tough to compete when you've got only three or four voting from the newspapers in Southeast Texas.

And on top of that, if a local sportswriter doesn't nominate a kid, he doesn't even get considered in the voting.

The Enterprise does such a poor job covering local sports. They likely didn't even see Kirbyville play until the 12th or 13th week. I'm fairly certain that the nominees from Kirbyville came from a heads-up Class 2A chairman who thought "surely we should include someone from the second-place team in the state!"

I didn't want to put my foot in my mouth but I thought that was how it worked.  That was the case with Rhodes last year and again this year with a state runner up team.  There is a reason it is known as the "Boremont Noprise"!

Another thought on this.....this also costs the players in scholarships too!  These players need their names in the spotlight as much as possible.  From their coaches to the local papers....these players need to be recognized and bragged on as much as possible.  Recruiting is a big "game" and there is no way that every deserving player gets recognized. Recruiters look at the All District  and All State lists.  While it may only one aspect of his check list, it does help to get them looking the players direction!! It's up to the coaches to put their players in the papers and then the responsibility of the local papers to give these boys the coverage they have worked hard for and that they deserve.  Kirbyville is well deserving of way more coverage than they recieved.  They should have had several players on the All State List.......Keep working hard boys.....Ya'll made SETEXAS proud!!!  Great bunch of kids and Great bunch of Coaches!!

Great post OLDYELLER21...great post!!!! Everything you mentioned is so true! Our local papers have kville players in there every week. Its just so sad to see our kids go out this way. They do deserve better than what they received!

Another thing you guys need to understand on this, these awards are based on regular season, not playoffs. It is my understanding that they are decided on before the playoffs, but only are released afterwards.

I understand that but it still diminishes the fact some of these players had great reg. seasons and their local paper(Beaumont Enterprise) can't even nominate them.  They have no clue what they are doing in the sports dept.!

It does not cost the players scholarships.  That is ridiculous to even think so.  Really, do you think a college coach sees a kids on film and says, "Wow, this kid can play for us!"  He then takes the film back to the head coach and then the staff sits down and evaluates the kid against the kids in the other hundreds of tapes from other schools.  Then the staff agrees, "This kid can play for us, let's offer him a full scholly."  But then, the head coach says, "Wait a minute.  I don't see this kid's name on the AP All-State list.  He can't play for us now!  We will not offer him a scholarship if he's not good enough to make the AP All-State team."

It is a joke that there are not any Kirbyville players on the All-State team for two years in a row.  Heck, even last year Pierce Rhodes didn't even make honorable mention and he was the District MVP.

Again, my main point is, it does not cost players scholarships.

Not getting all-state won't make them lose a scholarship, but it definately can draw the attention need to get one! So yes indeed, it can have a costly effect exposure and scholarship offers ! I have to agree, after seeing Jackson's size matched with an even better playing ability, he was more than worthy of something higher than honorable mention.

College coaches do not wait for the All-State list to come out.  The attention is already been drawn way before the All-State list comes out.

The rese is actually more often true.  I have been told that some writers vote based on where a kid is listed on various recruiting service lists.

Why is everyone so sure the Beaumont Enterprise did not put people on the ballot?

Please...are you kidding me...B.E. never gives our kids props at least not until 2 weeks ago when they learned we could possibly be going to the title game. They have NEVER been there for us in Kirbyville!!!
