Huntington Fan Charges The Court

Recommended Posts

From Smoaky

I'd ask what's the limit, in your opinion, when it comes to how far fans have the right to go. This, though, is pretty disturbing!

This happened at the Huntington-Diboll game Tuesday ...

In the 3rd quarter, during a time-out, a huntington fan comes on the court.

She goes straight at all three referees. She kept poking her finger in one of the ref's chest. She was giving him an earful.

All the meantime,...Huntingtons sup. (Eric Wright) just stands there watching this lady.

He nor any of the cops or other admin. attempted to stop this lady. One of the other refs went and got one of the cops to try to control the fan. Mr. Wright has not come on the court yet.

Diboll's AD went to talk with Mr Wright about this and you could tell he could care less what the AD had to say. He was waving his hands at the AD, motioning him to just go back to his side.

SHAME ON YOU MR WRIGHT! You showed very little class tonight.

Not to say the protection of these guys trying to call a game. Im sure you were just upset that the score wasnt in your favor, but you need to have a little more class than this!

Ya'll need to go read the post on Smoaky before making comments.  According to Smoaky, the policeman escorted her from the gym after the official signaled for him, she walked onto the court (not charged), she was recognized as being a fellow basketball official, etc. She still should be arrested, but know all the facts before ripping into other people.

Exactly.  Amazing how some folks instantly jump to one side of the fence without hearing the entire situation.  Calling for someone to lose their job based on a message board post is crazy.  With a big problem the UIL and can discipline a school.

It was probably the refs wife.  He was so used to cheating and getting away with it,  The next time don't be suprised if the fan doesn't bring a lawyer.

A big old double LOL

Regardless if she was a fellow official, she had NO business walking out onto the gym floor like that...unless she was in a zebra uniform calling the game. To me, that shows bad conduct on her part to interfere. It's basically the same thing if someone walks onto the football field during a timeout out from the stands to talk to a ref. Any other school or facility would have escorted her from the game and have her leave the premises.

I researched this and found that even "I" have been in violation..lol..check this out:

This is the hidden content, please

But here is a portion of the rules from UIL

~ BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS OF SPECTATORS ~

Remember that you are at the contest to support and yell for your team, and to enjoy the skill and competition not to intimidate or ridicule the other team or its fans.

Remember that school athletics are a learning experience for students and that mistakes are sometimes made.

Praise student-athletes in their attempt to improve themselves as students, as athletes, and as people, just as you would praise a student working in the classroom.

A ticket is a privilege to observe the contest, not a license to verbally assault others or be generally obnoxious.

Learn the rules of the game, so that you may understand and appreciate why certain situations take place.

Show respect for the opposing players, coaches, spectators and support groups.

Respect the integrity and judgement of game officials. Understand that they are doing their best to help promote the student-athlete,and admire their willingness to participate in full view of the public.

Recognize and show appreciation for an outstanding play by either team.

Refrain from the use of any controlled substances (alcohol, drugs, etc.) before, during, and after the game on or near the site of the event (i.e. tailgating).

Use only cheers that support and uplift the teams involved.

Be a positive role model at events through your own actions and by censuring those around you whose behavior is unbecoming.

Parents and spectators should be aware that the school can (and should) remove them from the premises and can prohibit them from attending future contests due to undesirable behaviors.

Game officials can ask that school administrators have unruly fans removed from a contest facility.

There is no such thing as a “right†to attend interscholastic athletics. Interscholastic athletics are considered a “privilege†and the spectator who avails themselves of it is expected to conduct himself or herself accordingly.

Keep in mind that you are a guest of the school, and that while winning is certainly an admirable goal, it is hollow if it comes at the expense of morals, ethics, and just plain common sense.

The school is responsible for the behavior of their spectators. The school district can be and will be punished for actions of patrons in violation of UIL standards and rules.
