Texas Hooper Posted 21 hours ago Report Posted 21 hours ago What are you guys thoughts on the COACHING battle tonight with BU vs FB Marshall. I feel this game will be in the high 30's to low 40's. Ronnie Courney (813W-337L). David Green (863W-246L). Both has 3 rings RC(Willowridge with that TJ Ford group and Pro Vision), Green (North Shore and BU) RC has been NATIONAL coach of the year and 3x Houston area Coach of the year. Green 3x COY. Gonna be a battle on the sideline tonight. Quote

Texas Hooper Posted 18 hours ago Author Report Posted 18 hours ago Totally agree. I think Courtney will focus on Jones but doesnt everyone. If he is successful at keeping him under 15 Coleman will be needed to produce from the guard spot. Quote

But you’re right. Clark and Richardson were probably the best two, although most wouldn’t recognize their names 15 years later. Quote

He didn’t have a ton of points as he transferred from Alief, but his defense and presence was undeniable. With Clark and Richardson, they were the big three. Not Cam he was still Raw. No offense but he wasn’t a force like that until his senior season. Kelly Oubre and Shawndre Jones will definitely attest to that. TxHoops 1 Quote

Yeah Gatlin was solid, but me thinks you are not giving enough credit to the value of having a 6-11 kid in the middle. He was a much bigger factor than Gatlin in Austin that year. They certainly don’t beat that great FM Marcus team (that went back to back the next two years with Marcus Smart and Phil Forte) without him. No offense but no one is putting your guy Gatlin in a “big 3” with Clark and Richardson over Cam. As you know, Cam and Kelly were the only two burger boys off of those teams. And I remember those teams well - my best friend’s sons lost in the state finals to Marcus in ‘12 before bringing home the hardware the following year in route to McD AA game appearances themselves… Quote

In the state semifinals against Marcus, Cam had 8 points and 5 rebounds. In the state champion game he had 8 points again. As I mentioned his game was not there yet. Being 6’11” helped but he was not an all district, region or state caliber player that sophomore season. He made major strides that summer. I have close friends who are parents of his teammates and plus I know actual teammates who played with him at Bush. Quote

What about blocked shots (4), altered shots (a ton), etc? I would say in a 2 point game (vs Marcus), keeping the other team from being able to effectively score in the paint probably had a big impact on the win. And by probably, I mean definitively. But hey, your guys two points and 4 boards in that same game was probably a bigger difference maker. In the state championship game, when he had 8 & 10 (with 3 blocks), your guy had 3 pts and 5 bds while leading the team in turnovers (4). We can keep arguing but we can agree to disagree. Obviously Cam got better over the next two years. And despite your friends who were parents of his teammates, if you don’t think they don’t win it all that year without him, I’m not the only one who would disagree with you. Ronnie Courtney would too. Quote

Ronnie Courtney would too. Please read carefully. I never said they would win without him. I said his game and overall impact was not the same that particular year, as it was the next two years. You need to go back and watch those games so you can determine who the primary defensive stopper was on that team. Not just read a box score Quote
