MLB Enforcement of Foreign Substances

Pitchers have been dominant early this season, with already close to a record number of no hitters. Spin rates have dropped since mlb announced enforcement was coming, and batting avg is up 10 pts. Should be interesting to see how this plays out this rest of the year.

Another thought... has this trickled down to the hs level?

They idea is okay, but the enforcement is horrible.  Just a year or two after implementing measures to "speed up" the game, you are now gonna to make it drag on with these countless checks of foreign substances.  That will greatly irritate those that claim that baseball's major problem with the current game is that it drones on for too long.

Use of foreign substances on the baseball is as old as the hill.  Heck, it helped Gaylord Perry to a Hall of Fame career.  While the current crackdown might improve things, it is not gonna solve things such as lower batting average and increased strike outs.  That will only happen when coaches, analytics guys, and, most of all, players, stop worrying about crap like "exit velocity" and "launch angle" and start worrying about putting the bat on the darned ball!

I wish they would just approve a substance that helps the pitchers with grip and control but doesn't make their spin rate go crazy. Manfred is going about this like an idiot.

In 2019 the independent Atlantic League tried a ball that has a stickier surface to help pitcher's grip. And a brighter white to help batters’ vision. Japan’s professional league uses a similar ball. Since the ball is doctored legally, anything else is cheating.
