Yates is scheduled to play 2 Preseason Top 25 High School Boys Basketball Ranked Teams in Duncanville

1. Montverde Academy

21. Sunrise Academy

If Coach Wise believes he has a special or talented team he is not afraid to play those elite teams with the likelihood he will get blowed out.

I would like to see more area teams step outside of their  comfort zone and schedule these national ranked teams.

With the great job Yates does recruiting, it is very hard for others to schedule these types of schools.

My opinion is that the Head Coach for Silsbee missed an golden opportunity for his program to play in those elite tournaments when he had that back2back State Champ Team. Regardless of the outcome (win or loss) in those tournaments, it’s about the exposure for further tournaments.

If Coach Wise At Yates believes he has a team that can play with the big dogs he doesn’t mind if his team gets the brakes beat off them, it’s about exposure.

Financially Silsbee should have enough alumi to sponsor The Tigers.

Before Yates Communication Program, the neighborhood kids zoned to Yates shocked the world and beat Oak Hill Academy.

We comparing Silsbee to Yates?? An HISD program to a small town program. Football? Yes Silsbee by 50. Basketball where HISD you are free to go wherever, Yates was supposed  to beat Silsbee in 2016/17 and 2017/18. Last year you "finally" got us. Yates has a new starting lineup this year outside of Jones and the other guard. Silsbee is a year away from being back. Yates better get it this year because Silsbee will be back for the next 2-3 years for sure. There aren't many teams in the country who could be compared the 07-09 Yates teams. Recruiting, kids being 26, and superior talent is what made the difference.

My intentions were not to debate between Yates and Silsbee, I was only pointing out that It would have been nice to see Silsbee play the elite teams.

Badsanta you indicated that Silsbee will be back the next 2-3 years, so I will look forward to seeing The Tigers play the elite top 5 in the near future Sir

I would consider this and next season to be rebuilding seasons for Silsbee. Saying that, they still will be district favorites and have a good chance to make it to Huntsville. Yates would definitely be the favorite out of the region. As for National tournaments, Silsbee did play in one last year. Maybe there weren’t top 10 teams there, but it was a good field. Hard to get a top 10 team to put a small school like Silsbee on their schedule...even if they did win state x2.

    • A few Board of Regents agree for sure. Some administrative changes were based in large part on those moves.  Sam Houston is the only one this remotely did any service and of course they moved on as well.
    • The greatest point on all of this, and exactly what makes it a great day in SE Texas is the commercials are over!!!!  Phelan wasn’t all bad, Covey wasn’t all bad, but by the end of it I would have voted for Brewster’s “None of the above!”  Politicians serve their own interests and everyone’s politician is bad (except for theirs of course).  I personally am for: 1) Higher fuel prices, 2) More taxes and restrictions on private property owners, 3) Cancelling student-loan and even credit card debt, 4) Covid restrictions (bring back masks) 5) Giving more tax money away to countries at war (except Israel), 6) Tearing apart the nuclear family 7) Supporting college kids to protest anything and everything they want with no consequences, 😎 Higher and higher food prices 😎  Go Biden/Harris - just MASA (Make America Soft Again), Beto for a high-cabinet spot.
    • Thanks for the info, I didn't check the primary vote count.  I was posing that, based on anecdotal evidence, many who did not vote in the primary showed up for the runoff, and apparently voted for Phelan.  My next door neighbors were two that voted runoff only and voted for Covey, so it went both ways I guess.   The Houston Chronicle posted quotes from Covey accusing many Dems of voting in the runoff.  Obviously if they were able to vote in the runoff then they didn't vote in the primary, unless the voted in the Rep primary to begin with of course. .  "Covey’s campaign released a lengthy statement after the results came in, calling Phelan an “Austin swamp creature and King of the Democrats.” The campaign accused Phelan of courting Democrat voters in Jefferson County to bolster his early vote numbers, but Covey did not say he would seek a recount." Anyway, it looks like it's a done deal, until November.
    • WooHoo, the RANGERS win today 6-1 and win the series with arizona. 1st series win in the last 6. Maybe things are starting to change!!!
    • That is what I thought but I figured you folks would be able to find it for sure. Was a little tougher back then with fewer teams in the playoffs.
