WOMEN’S SOCCER: Lamar adds six more to initial signing class

BEAUMONT – First-year women’s soccer coach Matt Dillon has announced the

addition of six new student-athletes who have signed national

letters-of-intent to continue their education and play soccer for the Lady

Cardinals this fall.

The signees included Evan Austin and Logan Matt of Nederland High School;

Yureli Gomez and Leslie Myers of Navarro JC; Ericka Predmore of Bonanza

(Nev.) HS; and Rachelle Barry of Curtis (Wash.) HS. These six players, along

with the 14 players that signed in February, will form the foundation for

Lamar’s first-ever soccer program that is set to start competition this fall

as a full member of the Southland Conference.

Austin was named first-team all-district, all-region and all-state as a

senior, and was named district MVP. She also plays for the Legacy team in

the Gulf Coast Youth Soccer League.

Gomez, a native of Michoacan, Mexico, helped Navarro JC reach the national

JUCA tournament as a freshman and sophomore. She helped Aldine HS advanced

to the playoffs three times. She played for Real Tamuin of the Mexican

League.

Matt was a three-time all-district performer in 2005, 2006 and 2007. She

also helped Nederland win four straight district championships (2004-07).

Matt is also an academic all-district. She also plays for the Legacy team in

the Gulf Coast Youth Soccer League.

Myers, who prepped at Corsicana HS, was named first-team NJCAA All-America

and was the team defensive MVP this season as a sophomore. At Corsicana,

Myers was a first-team all-district selection all four years and was named

district defensive MVP in 2005. She was named team defensive MVP in 2003 and

2004, and team MVP in 2005. She was named to the All-Golden Circle in 2004

and 2005. She helped Corsicana to the area championship in 2002. She plays

for the Texas Nomads club team.

Predmore was named team captain as a senior at Bonanza HS. She played for

the Rebel Select club team, helping them win four state championships, and

participated in the Nevada ODP.

As a senior, Barry led Curtis HS in scoring with eight goals and seven

assists. She helped Curtis post a 7-3-4 record and advance to the first

round of the state playoffs. She was named team captain, Tacoma Athletic

Commission Athlete of the Month, team MVP, best defensive player and

first-team All-SPSL South. She scored five goals and had five assists as a

junior. She helped Curtis post an 8-3-3 record and advance to the second

round of the playoffs. She was team captain, best defensive player and

first-team all-SPSL South.

As a sophomore, Barry had seven goals and four assists. She was named rookie

of the year and helped Curtis post a 7-4-3 record and advance to the first

round of the playoffs. Barry played for the F.C Royals ’88 club team and for

the Washington ODP team.
