Roger Clemens is Dishonoring the Game

This whole "I'll wait and decide in May whether or not I'm coming back" is a load of absolute crud. Clemens has had a tremendous career, but nobody is good enough to call shots like he is calling. No one in the history of the game has ever had a contract like that until he came along. What a joke! I just wonder what Nolan Ryan thinks.

I don't know if he is dishonoring the game, but he isn't helping his image. But contracts with all the stipulations and clauses have been going on for quite some time. When Bonds got to SF, he had a clause in his contract that gave him his own personal room in the clubhouse with a big screen TV and a recliner that nobody could go into unless he said so. There are many little tidbits in contracts that seem unnecessary, but it caters to the players to get them to sign more easily. Dice-K's contract is insane. He gets paid flights back and forth to Japan for him to visit, and for his family to visit the states, unlimited flights I think. He gets his own personal interpreter, and tons of other stuff I can't even remember. Everything about contracts in baseball is getting out of hand.

IMO, contracts in ALL pro sports are getting out of hand, not just baseball.

if you want to play, play....if you dont want to, dont!!!

15 rounds of golf at the most expensive courses will not help you decide one way or the other!!!

i dont wanna hear the age excuse, he is one year older than randy johnson and 5 years YOUNGER than julio franco and they can show up to in the spring on a roster. the guys great but there comes a point when it just becomes rediculous to put it off until atleast may. any team would be better w/ him on the staff but be reasonable. could you imagine if he held out and all the teams pulled back their offers lol (i know it wont ever happen)

I'm just tired of the whole greed factor, and not just with Clemens.  I don't care how old or young you are or how good you are, DON'T BE GREEDY!  If you love the game, play the game.  If you are in it for the money, stay out of it.

I'm fully aware that people have to make a living and that this is a business.  I also understand being smart with your business moves to position yourself to be finanacially well off.  That's only smart.  But greed is a totally different thing.

Image, he's liked about like Cobb was. Roger is for Roger, until he can't get anyone out, the owners will pay him to put butts in those seats.

True, but you see how important image is in getting in the Hall or other accolades after your career. The last thing you do is what people usually remember you by.

I think Roger has taken this a little far, if you're not in good enough health to perform in the whole season then your not needed! This is a team sports, it celebrates the fact that grown men can come together for a common goal, and what are you teaching kids, if you're good enough we'll make exceptions, we'll wait for you since your so good, you don't have to be a team player, you don't have to stay when you're not pitching because it's all about YOU! If there is a team out there that will pay you $18 mil a year for half a

season and will agree to all your wants and wishes - well, you see, he

just can't hang 'em up until that pit runs dry.

    • What the writer stated wrt crossover votes in the primary/runoff: "Covey and his supporters Paxton and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said Phelan only won because Democrats crossed over to vote in the Republican Primary for him. Paxton said Covey’s campaign identified “at least” 1,442 Democrats who voted early in Jefferson County in the primary runoff. Texas does not have party registration, but a voter’s primary voting history is public. The Covey campaign has not released its methodology behind its claim, but  This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up  by The Texan news website found that 9% of Republican voters in the March District 21 primary had voted in one of the previous four Democratic primaries. However, only 5% of that group had voted in all four previous Democratic primaries. What Phelan’s opponents did not mention is historically Democratic Jefferson County is undergoing a political transition towards the Republican party — the county judge switched his affiliation to the GOP in 2017 — so many residents have a mixed primary voting history. And Phelan’s allies in the House dismissed the idea that liberals swung the election. "I knocked on doors, hundreds and hundreds of doors, made calls for Dade,” Republican Rep. Jeff Leach, R-Plano, said on Mark Davis’ radio program Wednesday. “I did not speak to a single Democrat down here in HD21. Not a single one." "
