Just wondering what Big Girl, the enlightened.chosen one, Pamfam, and Newtobie think of that statistic?

Big girl
I cant say that I am always proud. Wars for profit against inanimate objections. The total lack of regard for the poor, needy and children. The I got mine you get yours mentality. We have the highest infant mortality rate when compared to other industrial countries. The dumbing down of america is horrible. Our school system is broken. We are pathetic when compared to other industrialized nations.
stevenash
Please name a place where you feel you could be "more proud". If we are so pathetic, why is everybody trying to move here?

Big girl
A place where there is not a total disregard for the poor, needy and children, a place that is not going to war for oil.

stevenash
And you believe that there is a total disregard for the poor in this country? What countries, other than the United States offer section 8 housing, food stamps, unemployment and extended unemployment benefits, disability insurance, and free cell phones? stevenash
I am not talking about illegals. I am talking about people who come here from all over the world because opportunities are better than anywhere else.
Big girl
Steve nash, the GOP ( along with you) wants to make drastic cuts in those programs. The WIC program allows infants to be fed. Why would anyone want to make cuts to that programs. I understand why people from Cuba and Mexico want to come here.

PAMFAM10
Aye you can be better than the rest but still not fair. America has a higher standard. Still the fairest place to live. The UK and Canada seem good also.
stevenash
PamFAm- are you saying that this country does not do enough for the less fortunate? If so, what should be done?
smitty
Aye you can be better than the rest but still not fair. America has a higher standard. Still the fairest place to live. The UK and Canada seem good also. The U.S. has spent 15 Trillion dollars since the "War On Poverty" was instituted. After 50 years, the poverty rate basically remains the same, percentage wise. In 1969, just 2.8 million Americans received food stamps. Today, over 47 million Americans are on food stamps. It all sounds touchy-feely. But, is it working? When government gets involved it usually doesn't.

new tobie
The Republicans constantly complain about free stuff as though the poor Republican slave states don't enjoy the many benefits of them. Eagle11
I wish our veterans got the treatment that the poor, needy and children get here. The very guys that protect yours and my freedoms get the shaft when it comes to being cared for. Heck, prisoners get better treatment than Vets get......except for the around the clock sex from Guido the killer pimp. 77 and smitty
