From the Bmt. Enterprise: "Roberts finished the game with 20 carries for 205 yards and two touchdowns. " "Contained" for 200+ yards and a 10.25 ypc.  Turnovers were the biggest issue for EC. They kept our "D" out on the field too much and eventually they got tired.
Wasn't taking away from his ability.....if you read my statement, I defined "contained" as not having the ability to score at will.  There was a statement made in another thread that EC would score as many times as #27 wanted to cross into the end zone.  HJ respected his ability and had a game plan to "limit" his impact on the game.  They accomplished that goal.  The ability that he has to break tackles and cut back against blocking makes him a threat at all times.  He could have had 5 or 6 TDs against the Hawks if they had underestimated him and the rest of the Bucs.  Sorry if you took my statement in the wrong light, but I was meaning no disrespect to the young man or his abilities.
 2. Sorry to disappoint y'all, but for the Hawks, it's all about the team this year, not individuals.  Hardin-Jefferson is learning that it takes a team effort to win.  The Hawks have a lot of young players that are learning "on the job" so to speak.  The team is learning to come together and persevere through adversity as a unit.  There are some athletes that are proving themselves as leaders on the field, but they are letting their actions speak for themselves and in the coming weeks, you will hear about them. But for now, the Hawks are concentrating on working as a team for a common goal......Success on the Football Field. This was my posting on the EC vs HJ thread from yesterday.  If you were at the game, you saw exactly what I had described, on the field.  HJ played as a team.  Not taking anything away from #27, he had a good game but the HJ defense was able to contain him (he didn't score at will like some had predicted) and they did it through team work.  Those players that are leading this team on the field showed that this team has come together and encouraging each other to give it their best effort when on the field.  Gone is the negativity and it's been replaced with an urgency to win.  The most amazing thing I saw last night was the excitement from the HJ coaching staff for the the teams performance. Watching the coaches, they were "in the moment" with their team.  Everything they asked those young men to do, the team gave it their best to perform for their coaches.  I might not always agree with the coaches' decisions, but they have helped this team of young men find that spark within themselves to perform on the field.  Whether they make the playoffs or not, who knows?  There is still a lot of games left.  But there is a change at Hardin-Jefferson, the stands are filling up more with every game that is played. The players are noticing it and are striving to give the fans a team that they can be proud of whether they win or lose.  HJ might have won by only 1 point, but the win was worth a lot more to the Hawks after they read they were supposed to lose by 30 or more.  IMHO they like being the underdog who has to prove themselves every week.

 4. Here is a prayer sent to me last week from a friend. Heavenly Father, Be with our football players tonight as they test their physical skills. Let them play well, but fairly. Let competition make them strong, but never hostile. Grant them the strength to beat their opponent, and lead them to always help the opponent up. Grant them moments to rejoice, but not in the adversity of others. Help them stay safe from injury, both physical and emotional. Help them to learn something that matters once the game is over. Help them remember that football is just a game, and the memories and friendships gained from football will be life-lasting. If they know victory, allow them to be happy. If they are denied, keep them from envy. If through athletics, they set an example, let it be a good one. Please guide us as their parents to be good role models for our children to follow.  Be with us always.......... We pray in the name of your Son,  Jesus, Amen.
 5. That rumor is true.  A 14U Sun Devil Premier team is being formed.  It will be run on the same principles as the older Sun Devil showcase teams.  If interested call Matt Thompson @ 409-553-6536. For those don't know, the Sun Devil organization is nationally known for producing quality players that showcase their skills in Perfect Game Tournaments across the country, most notably in the East Cobb, GA and Jupiter, FL World Wooden Bat Championships (WWBC).  It was started by Chip Ferguson and has been a gateway for many young men for an opportunity to play at an higher level after High School.  Chip Ferguson has passed the reins of the organization over to Matt Thompson who has been the Head Coach of the Sun Devils organization since its conception in 2006.  As of now, he will have a 14U Premier team and a 17U Showcase team.

Does HJ not have a freshman team?
HJ  only has JV and Varsity.  The JV is mostly freshman with maybe 4 or 5 of the 15 players being sophomores.
ok...i for one know that this statement is not true...i know for a fact there are more older kids on the team than that...i'll leave it at that...it's ok buddy.
Spoonbill, leave it like you want to, but you are definately wrong.  When you are involved day to day with these boys, the you will be able to lend your "expert" advice on the HJ JV team.  At any time there are no more then 2-3 upperclassmen on the field with the rest being true freshmen.  But if it makes you feel better to think otherwise, then be my guest to do so if it helps. :o

 8. Kia ad is still causing havoc on my Ipad and phone.  The ad blocks out the screen on the Ipad within 30 sec. and same thing on the phone.  It makes the forum unreadable on both devices.
 9. iPad is doing the same thing.  I can't even see what I am typing right now because the screen is completely covered with the ad.

WOSGrad, is it true what PoppaBearstarr has quoted you as saying about Sour Lake?  I hope not.  I am not a resident of Sour Lake, but I would find this disrespctful if I was one. I guess you must have one set of rules for yourself  and another for the rest of the posters on this board if it is true you made that statement in a post.  Hopefully PoppaBearstarr is speaking with his tongue implanted in his cheek.  ;)
Fair enough, I will show the quote I made: "However, I am somewhat disheartened at what seems to an accelerated pace of what was already to many here a disturbing trend of every thread somehow becoming a debate on whether the sun does not rise until Todd Sutherland opens his eyes in the morning versus the opinion that Sour Lake, Texas is obviously God's Toilet because it is obvious that he took a a dump there." As you can see, I never said that I believed that Sour Lake was God' Toilet.  I was merely stating that I was disturbed about the degeneration of every thread (including now this one) into a referendum on the HJ basketball program.  Not all HJ folks found this offensive.  In fact, the first response to my post was from a diehard HJ fan who in fact had started a thread in an attempt to tackle the very same problem. In fact, the first person I banned due to this continued problem was not an HJ poster but rather a Silsbee die hard.  But due to selective reading, I am not persona non grata in Sour Lake, Texas.
Thanks for clearing that up.  I see that the statement was a remark on the size of the rift between the posters on any threads where HJ Basketball is mentioned and not deragatory toward Sour Lake.  Sorry for straying from the thread.

 12.
Having gone back and read the original "letter to the editor", I saw a lot of similarities to something that I am close too (Mods, will you grant me a little lee way?) While this is high school we are talking about, it very much parallels the college I attended, UTEP.  For years, heck, decades, UTEP was everyone's stomping boy.  We were the doormat, under the doormat.  0-12, 1-11, 2-10 records were the norm.  A good season was considered 3-9. Attendance stank, and every 3-4 years, the chorus went out..."we need a new coach!"  And every 3-4 years, they got one...only to suffer the same fate. A few years ago, we got a coach "in disgrace".  Mike Price had been summarily fired by Alabama, before even coaching a single game.  Seems he was supposedly in Florida with strippers after a golf tourney(a lawsuit later clarified the situation, and he got some big bucks for slander, but I digress).  He took the hapless Miners from losers to bowl games, and his records have been 9-3, 8-4, 4-8, 5-7, 5-7, 6-6, 5-7 since.  He has had the team in 90% of the games they played and lost, and defeated teams like Houston.  However, since the fans got a taste of success in his early years, they think that this is normal, that a team that was always on the wrong end of ugly, should now compete with the likes of SMU, Houston,  and other storied programs.  I am again hearing the chorus of "new coach, new coach", and "bring in a young hungry guy" as the coach.  Like HJ is percieved as a high school, UTEP is also percieved as a college...a basketball school. The problem is, the singers of this chorus of "new coach new coach", want to get a great "champagne" name on a watered down beer budget.  They want first class results at a 5th class price.  I don't know the dynamics of HJ's administration, but reading the letter from the "fan" in the BE, I can see the same type of thinking... How do you get a winning program? 1.  Get out there for the kids...whether it's Pop Warner, junior high, or high school, or college, whether the record is 10- or 0-10, get out there for them.  These kids and young men get out there and take their health in their hands to give you a game.  They get sprains, broken bones, concussions, and other injuries for no pay, for only the chance to hear a cheer from you every once in a while. 2.  Don't think the new guy will be any better...sometimes, he can be worse.  Support the program, and you would be surprised how much the program improves.  If you haven't done anything but complain, and haven't gone to many games, you have no room to talk.  That would be like a player getting to play first string without attending practice.    3.  Get stupid for your hometown team.  The colors, the spirit stickers, whatever.  Let those kids see the community behind them.  Plain and simple, if they see you don't care...why should they? Good luck HJ...in EVERY sport!
Great post elhector1!
 13. He wouldn't be eligible to play football till his sophomore year unless Ole Miss gives him a football scholarship.
 14. 4 teams left: League City, Kyle Chapman, Friendswood Blue, Twin County July 18 League City 3 vs Kyle Chapman 14 6pm.  Kyle Chapman Regional Champion Winner is Champion and earns berth to Zone Tournament.  With the new bracket, once you lose a game and go into the loser's bracket, you cannot win the tournament....you can only play for runner-up berth. Twin County 10 vs Friendswood Blue 19... Twin County Eliminated and receives a 4th place finish July 19 Friendswood Blue vs Kyle Chapman 6pm  Winner is runner-up and receives berth to Zone Tournament.  Runner-up does not get to compete against the Tournament Champion.
 15. July 15 NASA Green 10. Twin County 4 Vidor lost to Kingwood (score unknown at this time) After these games the bracket was re - drawn due to the bye that Twin County was supposed to have that was given to a Houston area team.  This threw the bracket into disarray. July 16 Twin County 13 vs Kingwood 7 Kingwood Eliminated Pasadena 16 vs Vidor 6 Vidor Eliminated July 17 Twin County 8 vs NASA Green 7 1:30pm NASA Green Eliminated Twin County 11 vs Friendswood 9 (9 innings) Friendswood Eliminated
 16. Thanks for clearing that up for us....we were getting confused.  ???
 17. The bracket I received for Twin County from the Regional Host Chairman is: July 15 Conroe 3 vs Kyle Chapman 2 6pm game 1 Pasadena 2 vs Twin County  8pm game 2 Kyle Chapman 3 vs Pasadena 3 6pm game 3 Conroe 2 vs Vidor 8pm game 4 July 16 Winner game 1 vs Pasadena 1 Winner game 2 vs Kyle Chapman 1 Winner game 3 vs Conroe 1 Winner game 4 vs League City One thing I would like to point out, Twin County is the only team to win sectionals and not get a bye on Friday night.  It must be a HOUSTON thing.
