One theory might be that in human evolution, the African continent was a much more hostile environment and the people there developed superior abilities to survive. In the case of "African Americans" there is a much more sinister and controversial theory. I hesitate to mention it, but I don't really see it as racist (at least not anymore) so... It is thought that since a lot of the "black" population in the USA used to be slaves, that they're "owners" were engaged in breeding programs to produce better stronger workers. This left the USA with a high ratio of black people with superior physical prowess and these genetic traits were past down to modern day.
