Two more commits from Vidor that signed today:
Keaira McCurley-Howard College, Big Spring
Natalie Morrison-Northeast Texas Community College, Mt Pleasant
PNG has a senior who committed that I forgot to post:
Lauren Cathey-John Melvin U, Crowley, LA
Softball pitchers absolutely can get injured from overuse. It’s just like any other repetitive motion injury.
Fortunately for BC, they also have Lacomb who is better than some of the other schools #1 pitchers.
For 19-4A:
1. BC - *IF* Carson Fall is healthy the whole season and doesn’t get overused. Their new coach has a large softball IQ, so she should make some sound personnel decisions.
2 and 3 will be either Vidor or LCM. Vidor has the talent but struggles with confidence. The only thing they really lost from last year was a couple of strong hitters. Some of the freshmen hit just as well. LCM is good but predictable.
4/5 will be Lumberton or Jasper. Jasper is another team that struggles with confidence. I think both teams are about equal in ability.
Vidor has a pretty strong group of freshmen, some of whom play high-level select. It’ll be a competitive season in this district for sure. I can’t wait!
Since we can't let Barbers Hill have all the fun, I thought I'd compile a list of local seniors who have already announced their commitments. There may be more that I haven't seen. There are definitely more who are still working on making the decision. Here's what I have so far:
Vidor:
Carlie Abbott - Centenary College of Louisiana
Bridge City:
Carson Fall - University of Kentucky
Haley Munoz - Lamar State College Port Arthur
Lumberton:
Mallory Cheek - University of Arkansas Rich Mountain
Kountze:
Kitty Coe - University of Arkansas Rich Mountain
Laney Shivers - Concordia University Texas
Emily Smith - University of Louisiana Lafayette
Warren:
Makayla Baker - Bossier Parish Community College
West Brook:
Casadi Barclay - Centenary College of Louisiana
There may be hope for this program. I watched the 8th graders play a few weeks ago. 8A is very good and very athletic. Their only loss this season (to my knowledge) was to CO Wilson.
To my knowledge, Lumberton is the first one who noticed what had happened on the Friday that they played. I’m sure the other schools will be watching from here on out.
