About Me

37 years of coaching/ teaching in east Harris county. Head track, head soccer, assistant HC football, defensive coordinator football. Retired but rehired last year to teach and coach. This year just rehired to teach. In applying for head football jobs, been a bridesmaid 4 times. Jerry Stewart told me in the late eighties when i didn’t hop in that private jet to Cleburne with him it would cost me getting head football jobs. Damn Jerry is smart. Oh well I haven’t officially thrown in the hat yet. Maybe someone in southeast Texas will give me a chance.

Well now I have moved close to home, Marlin, to Waco where I am now certified to ref in the TASO Waco chapter. I will ref football Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (including 6 man !!!)

But I am most excited to start an online blog on the Substack app called "Fire the Coach cause we deserve better". It will be twice a week, free but patrons can join monthly to participate in discussions. My goal is to make $500 and award this grant to a graduating senior football player who is a grinder and wants to become a coach/teacher. I believe the best coaches are those grinders and looked up to their coaches as male leadership figures. This is what happened to me as a senior at Marlin and it was noted by Gordon Wood, at one time the winningest hs football coach in the nation. Because of his recognition I made all state and the 1979 THSCA all star game and played with Erik Dickerson, Craig James and 9 other future NFL players. I also received a $500 grant from the president of First State Bank in Marlin to use in anyway to become a coach/teacher. I am the baby of 7 from second generation Ukrainian farming poor family. I wore home made clothes until the 7th grade. So when this upstanding business owner awarded me the $500, I was flabbergasted that someone like him felt a debt of gratitude to me. I want other young men of meager means to feel as I did that day.

I calculated that I coached 3,600 young men (3 women, excellent discus/shot athletes). I feel I have been an excellent example of what a Godly man should be. Through my substack, with the $500 I want that young man chosen to effect just as many. I am 64 with goals of my 90's and want to award young men to let them know someone with a little extra $ wants them to carry on that tradition of exemplary coach.
