If you score 49 points but only win by 3 it doesn’t seem like an offense problem. Win by 3 and only score 3 would be more of an issue.

Yes, y’all played above average defense that evening. I don’t guess I could call it great since we struggle against any decent defense. I guess Carthage’s defense is only average since we scored 14 against them. BTW it’s nice that you keep the big zero points scored game fresh in my memory. I would hate to forget it 🤮

Crawford said we won’t score 40 or maybe even 30 against a “decent” defense based on the Center game. Salado gave up 49 to us, 32 to Grandview, 48 to Stephenville and China Spring. Their other games were 0, 0, 6, 6, 7, 14 and 7. I don’t know how they rank on the scale but it’s probably better than decent. If y’all plan on holding us under 40 you better have a really good defense. I guarantee a “decent” defense won’t get it done.

Salado’s defense was way better than decent.

Some of y’all are filling in your bracket already and I’m going to laugh when 3 of the 4 teams left in Region 3 are from District 10. I’m taking Jasper in this one based on strength of schedule.

I realize I’m biased but he is one of the best HS QB’s you will see. He was at the Elite 11 in Dallas with Quinn Ewers, Nick Evers, Cade Klubnik, ect.. and this is how SI graded him.

I remember 37 years ago a Jasper DE named Marshall Land hit our QB so hard he bit through his mouth piece. He was a large human being.

I tell you what. Pop’s can still spin it too. He signed with the Texans last year when they moved to Rusk. He coaches our receivers. The defense hates it when he QB’s the scout team 😂. Unbelievable dude, the kids love him.

I’ve now watched several Bellville games and our defense will need to take perfect angles and get to the ball before the Brahma’s get vertical. Really, really fast RB’s (most of y’all probably already knew that) Bellville and Salado run the same offense with polar opposite styles. Against Salado our kids had to get to the ball carrier and hope help got there to get them to the ground. Against Bellville we will be hoping we can actually get to the ball carrier. The good news is we have an opportunity to rest some on defense against Bellville. If 10 or 5 break out in the open field we can walk back to the sideline because we won’t catch them. Offensively we need to produce long, time consuming drives that result in touchdowns. If we can keep the ball away from their offense we’ve got a chance to win the game. If they get 8+ offensive series it will be a long night for my Eagles.

I may be wrong but I see us scoring more than 7. If we don’t they will definitely score more than 35. Bellville isn’t Jasper, if we keep giving the ball back they will score.

You are correct. It was a Chinese fire drill on the Oline the first three games of district. We’ve actually had to adjust our lineup. Our starting LFT tackle was out vs Jasper (out for the season) and we slid a guard to replace and the RT tackle to guard. Three weeks ago we moved a dlineman over to off tackle and moved the RT tackle back outside. Now the only 300 pound kids are the two guards. Center and tackles are 250-270. It started paying off on Friday. We are moving tremendously better on the edges now.

We run the spread. We probably throw it as much as Bellville runs it. Hopefully it will be an entertaining game.

I’m not saying they are on the same level. Carthage is not “hitting on all cylinders” offensively yet. Jasper has an extremely good defense and I’m not saying that because they whooped us 7-0 (never seen that score considered a “whooping” but whatever) Even with our weak schedule we avg 44 ppg coming into the Jasper game. PNG scored 14 on Jasper they avg 33 ppg against everyone else. Vidor scored 8 they avg. 36 ppg and LCM scored 13 they avg. 33 ppg. Say what you want but Jasper is not giving up many points to anyone. If Carthage was rolling on offense at the moment it’s not contest but they are not. In a low scoring game anything can happen. One broken play, special team score, ect. can swing a game to either side. I’m not predicting a Jasper win. I believe Carthage will do enough on offense to win the game and Jasper will not score on offense. But if Carthage’s offense struggles.... you never know.

I just had the opportunity to watch the Carthage/Center game. Carthage may have improved some on offense but It’s hard to judge with Center’s defense. This game may be more interesting than I originally thought. I know I will regret saying this but Jasper could pull the upset.
