I watched this scrimmage last night. A couple of things stood out. Above all else, HF has a really good QB. He made lots of big time throws. The next thing that stood out was that Huffman did not give many reps to their top weapons. The RB Bacon (has an offer from Lamar) only had about 3 carries one of which was a 70 yd sprint to the end zone. His younger brother that plays WR (has offers from at least 4 D1 schools) played limited reps as well. They are a totally different team when they are on the field. When they weren't, it looked sloppy. HF got the best of Huffman's starters, but the backups really got beat bad. At least 4 of those TDs were against them. I'm curious to see how it looks when it's for real.

Great job on the podcast. Which two kids are y'all talking about for shepherd's defensive line?

Huffman should have a good offense but the defense is a big question mark. Their defense was below average last year but opportunistic. They lost TEN starters on defense. They will have some good back end guys but the front 7 is completely up in the air. I'm rooting for them but it seems like an uphill battle.

I guess we will see. I know Sheperd lost a stud who moved away. That was a huge loss for them. From what I've heard the defense will be pretty good but the offense is pretty bad. HJ had a lot of talent last year but lost a few players and then the momentum with it. They have a few terrific skills players including Warren one of the most talented in the district last year.

I think HJ will be better than Sheperd.

Nolan Cook QB Huffman Just finished his career with 7000 yards passing and rushing combined and 91 TDs.

I feel like this district gets a bad wrap because of who we match up with in the first round. There are a lot of 4A D1 districts that would get swept by Kilgore and company.

Yep Huffman is getting Lindale. Nevil did a great job considering the circumstances. He was making his first career start playing for a DC with 1 week of preparation. He played good enough for Huffman to win, but ultimately special teams was Huffman's undoing. If Cook plays it's probably a different story today. But he didn't, so you tip your hat to Bridge City, get ready for Lindale and see what happens.

Embarrassed? Huffman lost by 9 to Chappel Hill. We were down 2 with under 2 mins left in the game on their 1 yard and fumbled on 4th down. Hardly embarassing. Final score was 44-35.

Wow... That went from comfortable to anxiety ridden in a heartbeat.
