  1. How about Muandumba (if paperwork is in order) or the two young men from Pflugerville? Also Carter who was here last year as transfer is a big sturdy looking reserve for inside. Really, if everyone stays healthy they should be better than last season.
  2. Did Butch Baird ever win on tour?
  3. Maybe nation08 is wanting to know who will be on the team for workouts this fall? I would think at least 15 walkons / maybe more / from this spring and fall walkon groups. Did we ever hear how many, and perhaps who, from the spring tryouts made the team?
  4. Eaton had considerable experience before coming to Lamar, Spickler is in her first coaching job after graduation...wouldn't think they are being paid the same.
  5. Did she get a college job in Alaska, if you know? I agree she will be a success wherever she goes...
  6. title is "lamar umpires strike again"...did these officials have anything to do with Lamar University?
  7. Did she get a coaching job in Alaska, or moving for other reasons? Will definitely be missed, but wish her the best of luck.
  8. Actually J Wesley from FB Hightower was on Cleveland State list as well, but it was announced a few months ago that he was not coming to Lamar - is going to I believe San Jac (this may be wrong school) JC. As I mentioned earlier, perhaps/hopefully this is a typo on ESPN's part - but it just seems odd that LU had all their scholarships accounted for, at least with verbal commitments, several months ago; but no recruits ever officially announced and it seems that there have been several players rumored to be coming here that were not among the original list.
  9. I think we'll find out who the recruits are when they suit up for that first game. : On ESPN recruiting page for Cleveland State it shows Nuno Muandumba/ Jonathan Garza / Osas Ebomwonyi / and Stan Brown as verbally agreeing to sign with that University. Perhaps just a typo or maybe LU lost some of the early commitments?
  10. Carter played one year at UT-Permian Basin (I think DII) so perhaps he sat out last year as transfer?
  11. Was a story within the past month or so in one of the local newspapers where Roc mentioned that Justin Carter would be eligible this year after transferring and that he was another big guy that help down in the low post area. Also what about the PG from New Mexico? Just from what I could read he was possibly a bit better than Garza. I guess we will just have to wait a few more days to find out for sure.
  12. More like volunteer position Exactly, if this wasn't a volunteer position, I don't think he was paid any more than a grad assistant rate.
  13. To make a long story short, Tony was promoted when Abatemarco left. Possibly not ready for head coaching spot, but who really knows as he didn't have a full chance and I am not sure that he had adequate budget to work with. In addition he was basketball coach during the season when football was dropped and there were a lot of hard feelings in the community that he had to deal with. Some of you "youngsters" may not know but Tony is the son-in-law of legendary PA Lincoln coach James Gamble. Rather than give Tony a real chance, the powers that be at LU at that time hired Mike Newell and that (to my way of thinking) definitely did not work out as expected. Also, just my opinion, but I am afraid that Roc may turn out to be the same same situation as Tom Abatemarco (though Steve does not have the abrasive personality). Abatemarco came in to Lamar with the reputation of a great recruiter from a big time program and many of the boosters seem to have felt that he would bring the same level of recruits to Lamar. No such luck.
  14. I know Walter Umphrey is a BIG donor and supporter to Baylor College of Law [his alma mater], and in fact I think he and his wife donated $$$ to build one of the new major buildings there. Still think there would be a lot more logical options for LU.
  15. Two games between the same teams (not playoff or bowls) the same season??? ???
  16. | I wonder what the process would be to start a law school? Offering a Bachelor's and Master's of Public Administration downtown would also be another good choice. I believe that a lawschool would have to be brought before and passed by the tx legislature ... don't see much possibilty of that happening now ... funding just not there-the MPA seems a more likely choice at this time
  17. Is Danny Faust who applied for this job the same man who played for Lamar in the 80's? RB and slot receiver under Alborn's run-and-shoot program?
  18. When he was at Arkansas-Monticello did he work with/for Mike Newell? Good luck to him if he gets the job...
  19. I believe Beckett was not even kicked out of the game...how can they suspend him particularly when it seems he may not even miss a start?
  20. If starters. particularly pitchers, hold up (a big if, possibly) then slightly more than breakeven record and about 3rd in their division. Still a couple of guys I am not sure about for the long run...Bourn, for one.
  21. And remember that two weeks ago I submitted a link from Baytown paper (former local writer Dave Rogers) that said that Busby, former Kountze player who was at Lee College the last two years, had signed with Lamar in the fall. First time I had heard of this.
  22. I believe Lee Yobbi is from New Mexico...not sure if Albuquerque, maybe Santa Fe area.
  23. [Hidden Content] Am I correct that Roccaforte did not announce recruiting class (early signees)? This report from Baytown SUN says that C J Busby from Kountze (played last 2 years at Lee College) signed in the fall with Lamar. Remember the name from HS, but can he add any scoring to the small forward position?
  24. Adamek defends his CRUISERWEIGHT (200#) tonight against Jonathon Banks, undefeated challenger from Kronk Gym in Detroit. Adamek probably a slight favorite but not an easy defense by any means. Hopkins natural weight is about 168-170. Would be a big step up in size for Hopkins.
