  1. If we win 2 or 3 we should be happy.
  2. My point exactly. Those were very good teams that played there best ball down the stretch, but what did they do to follow that up in the next few years. No repeat trips to the championship. 2000 was 9 years ago. Some of those kids have Kindergartners now! ;D I am talking about a program that goes four or five deep each year like Lamarque, Stephenville, Highland Park and even what Dayton has done lately. I said GT (Golden Triangle) and I was refering to 4A and 5A. I consider Dayton a Houston area team. And what has WOS done in 3A? No state titles. Not even a title game.
  3. Lumberton will live and die on that defense this year! Nederland has to replace a hose of a RB. Remember 2007! Should have big stat lines because of the air game, but will they score alot? PNG will be under a learning curve. Should have big stat lines because of the air game, but will they score alot? Central will also live and die on the defense this year. Ozen is an anigma? Who knows what you will get? LCM will also be under a learning curve. Livingston lost their allworld threat. Vidor...Vidor might move the ball better than the rest and get into the end zone more.
  4. Not sure I want A guy who's heart is in another state! He sounds like a problem. It is not like the guy put up monster numbers last year in JUCO!
  5. But what do they know. You and I know they never show and of our local 4a teams no respect. You will probably never see our local teams in the top 10. You are correct about that. But we have not had a dominant program (year in and year out) in the GT since WOS of the late 80's early 90's. We have had a few exceptional teams and a few good teams that peaked at the right time. It is time for a GT program to step up and dominate the State!
  6. That statement right there, if it's is truly accurate, will be what makes the most difference in how PNG does this year. Agreed! Buying in to the system and what the coaches are selling is what has turned Lumberton around. You found a coach that gets it (starts with them when they are young). I think we have as well.
  7. I guess somoe folks just prefer wearing PURPLE! ;D
  8. I think that most fans this year feel like their team will be much improved because of the coaching changes and couple that with the bevy of good returning coaches at Nederland and Lumberton and Mathews Crew being picked to be a true contender, this leads a lot of folks to think the district 1-8 will be much better this year. If that means last year was a down year??? Maybe, but I think the past several years (10) have been down years. No top 10 team year in and year out!
  9. A bit of a surprise. As a WR this kid I thought would get some DI offers, especially with teams coming to check out Merka at Crosby. Merka to Franks coulda hooked up for big numbers!
  10. And most of the teams above WOS fall into one of two categories: 1. Private Schools that recruit. 2. 1A or 2A type schools. Very impressive for Coach Hooks and his staffs over the years. They did this while playing some stiff competition as well.
  11. He looks the part so far. Could put up big numbers if he stays healthy with DeRon and Segura at WR. With Doty PNG will pass quite a bit. If he gets hurt then the # 2 QB will run more.
  12. I don't think that it is that the HC that run the spread don't want contact versus the ones that run the power game. I think it has more to do with the fact that teams that run the spread pass more, which leads to more incompletions and less time off of the clock. A three and out in the spread could take less than 20 seconds of clock time. A three and out with a running team could take three minutes off of the clock. That means more time on the field for the "D" when your "O" runs the spread.
  13. I think if Stump could conrtol his feeder school coaches and players, they would be vying for state titles instead of district runners up each year! Stump does a great job with what he has, but I think WB will continue to struggle beyond Bi-district because of some of the restrictions of the BISD. Just an opinion.
  14. Never say never! This year there are no front runners! Could be the year a team like Vidor picks up a Title. Most seasons 20-4A has a dominant team or two in the district from the word go. This year there isn't one. I think the district will be better from 1-8, but the top will not be as good as in the past, thus Vidor could be top dog, er top Pirate!
  15. Because Beaumont Middle Schools feed to different High Schools. Some kids at SFA will go to WB, some to Ozen, and some to Central and so on with the other middle schools. So the coaches at these schools are not instructed by the Head Coach at the HS. That puts the HC's at a dissadvantage. I think this is one of the reasons that the bigger ISD's like Houston and Dallas don't have the powerhouse teams anymore. Even Katy and Plano still have boundries for their feeder schools. Just a thought (and an observation from a BMT coach).
  16. You are right we had a bad season. We had 26 turnovers in 9 games. That just about says all you ned to know about the 2008 PNG Indian Football Season!
  17. In response to last years game and stats: BH didn't drive the ball across the 50 until the second half and even then it only happened twice. Both scores where after turnovers that were unforced (muffed punt) and open field fumble and inside the 20. Again BH didn't cause that game to be so close. PNG did! But that was typical of PNG all season. Turnovers (fumbles).
  18. This is key to the early success of this program. Local talent that people want to see. If they have success early then the top local talent will stay and eventually the better talent around Texas and LA will be easier to recruit and Lamar can make waves about the FBS.
  19. One advantage that Vidor has is that they run an offense that most teams rarely see, thus it is harder to prepare for in one week. That is where having so many starters back makes a big difference for them. In 2005 if I am not mistaken they were attempting to run the spread, which you see every other week. Most of the Vidor coaches and a number of players came to watch the PNG Spring game to see what the competition is doing. Didn't see anyone else in the district there?? That tells me that the kids believe!
  20. Congrats Collins girls on getting back and exacting some revenge on Mamou. That girl was bringin' it! The gun had her at 57 consitantly, which is amazing for a 12U. We had hoped to have an all Crush final, but it just didn't pan out. ;D Good tournament as far as competition, but it was hot, fields were horrible, umps were typical for SW LA, and restricting to one team cooler and having no water in the dugouts was almost criminal. That ain't the way they get treated when they come to TEXAS baby!
  21. Also when we get into the playoffs we get a lot of out of town alumni involved who don't make all the local games. I have been to several Nederland playoff games over the years as well, they get nice crowds. I'd have to place them second. Lumberton packed 'em in during the run a coupl a years back.
  22. WOS has great parking, easy to get in and out, lots of visitor seating, great, usually hospitable fans, and I love the space between the rows of seats!
  23. No one on here has said that PNG was a hard luck team. Go back through all the posts. I said BC was a hard luck team. PNG has been on the side of good fortune enough over the years, but PNG is not the only team to have their season decide on a coin toss or a last second play at the end of the year.
  24. Vidor. It takes for ever to get to the parking areas because there is only one way in and one way out! Favorite place to watch a game (other than the Res!), Stallworth in Baytown.
