1. OF needs to come to the game ready to play. HF showed against BC that they can scrap with the best. Wendling has been solid on the mound and he will be in good hands with Markum behind the plate. Chapman (Jr.) has been doing a great job at SS and along with Miquez at 2nd., the middle is in good shape. The Horns have been growing up fast and they should be a handfull for OF. Looking forward to what should shape up to be a good game.
2. I don't believe that a school can start talking to a junior until either June or July. With that said, this area has large group of talented juniors that can play at the next level, where ever that is.. First off, I have seen Schlett and Sonnier play baseball since they were 10. There is no dought that they have what it takes. Soisson from Jasper was mentioned in an earlier post and he too will be playing somewhere after high school is over. Three other guys that deserve to be mentioned are: Caleb Henry (Sislbee) Price Jacobs (GCM) Kyle Markum (HF) It's still early  but, I am excited to see how these young men develope over the season and I believe that when it is signing time again, we will be seeing a lot of these names. Good Luck to All!
3. Tommy Wendling, Soph. for HF, threw a no hit shut-out Saturday against HJ. He's one of the youngsters at HF that really is stepping up.
4.
I believe that Wayne Mehaffey, the baseball coach, is being considered for the job.
Coach Mahaffey would be an outstanding choice. He has the experience and the players respond well to him. Hopefully the HF administration will give Coach Mahaffey a long look.
5. The numbers are not down in baseball. HF is fielding (3) teams this year just like last year. There were only (2) teams in 2008. By the way, there's going to be a great game in Winnie today between HF and EC at 4:30. Ya'll come on out.
6. I am glad 78Stang that you clarified your comment and I am sorry you have had a negative experience with Select Baseball. My son has played Select ball for seven years and is beginning his third season of Highschool ball. I have not seen the problems you have descibed. We have several Select players on our Highschool team and I have not heard any complaints. These young men tend to be the leaders of the team and not the source of moral problems. A Select player generally brings to a team a better understanding of the game. This all comes from hard work and most coaches reward hard work whether you are a Select player or not. As for as the "Prima Donas" you described, I can only say that my son has been taught that the team comes first and he needs to do his job. His job is to play the very best baseball he can. I've seen that quality in the other Select players on our team. I believe the experiences you have had are not in the "majority" that you described.
7. Congratulations. Pinder's had an outstanding Senior year. He's been fun to watch.
8. He's back behind the plate, at least part time. Last I spoke with him, he was still a little sore but did not have the pain in his hip anymore. Hopefully that is a good sign.
9. HF should be solid if they stay healthy and could make a strong run. Silsbee has some good young players coming up and should not be taken lightly. Bridge City, even without Hicks, knows how to win ball games. I don't know what the line-ups for OF or HJ look like this year, but both schools play great baseball. Hopefully WOS can shore up their line-up and make some noise.
