Some guys on here act as if the LU Football program has been around for years.  How do you expect great players to come here to a start up program.  Gonna take time.  Give this coaching staff 3-5 years.  If it is not getting the job done then you have to consider all options.  There is no doubt that Coach Woodard has what it takes.  It is so funny how quick people will turn their backs on the team and coaches once they lose games.  If they were winning it would be the best coaching staff in the conference.  Right???? How many starters are out right now???  Would they make up 50 something points, not likely but would make a big difference.
SEE SOUTH ALABAMA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why is it that you want to compare with USA which is in its third year and plays FBS?  That is not apples to apples.  Georgia State is, FCS and a second year program. [Hidden Content] they are 2-7 and just lost at home to a NAIA school.  I'm not happy with the last to games either.  But if you are going to compare GSU is APPLES to APPLES.
 5.
Can we hold sfa under 40 and will we have 20 yds rushing?
Thats an easy one, sure the Cards can do both.  Will they? Im going to say yes. Against Sam Attaway had trouble throwing the deep out,he was very inaccurate. McNeese played off coverage and SFA ate them up with the short passes.  Play tight coverage and take away the middle. Im sure that is easier said than done.

Earl Campbell couldnt run behind our line...all the hype about the line and the  running game...ditch it..chunk that tater I think dim whitten is using his brain a little on this one.....Ray grasping at straws
I think it is the blocking scheme up front that is the problem.  Either it is flawed or the line is not executing it properly.  On one play down near the goal the DE was lined up over the TE.  The tackle doubles  the DE on a run up the middle instead of getting upfield on a LB.  The DE has should have no chance lined up that far outside on a dive play.  I hope that is just a result of the O Line being young.
As far as I know Bevil was not benched.  The sideline reporter for the Southland Network said that Bevil had his shoe off and was complaining about his heel hurting.
 8. Cards have a real shot here.  The only reason UCA beat McNeese last week was because of that awful looking field.  Cards win a close one.
 9.
huge!..i couldnt believe it..just sauntered out of bounds...........
In Bevil's defense he ran past the marker.  The problem with that was it was the marker on the home side for the line of scrimmage.  DOH!!! I'm sure he thought it was the stick for the first down.
 10.
Do you want to know what the REAL problem is?  We all need to look in our own backyard.  This area does not support local ANYTHING other than High School football.  We had a semi-pro basketball team that couldn't be beaten...no fan support.  We had the Padres minor league team, the Beaumont Golden Gators...no fan support.  LU always has an awesome baseball team...no fan support.  We had an Arena football team...no fan support.  Anyone remember the Hockey team (now I realize hockey is a stretch in a SE Texas town) but still, no fan support.  It is up to US!  Pouring money into it is not the only answer.  I would venture to say that quite a bit has been poured into LU football, but the Home Conference opener crowd was not even 70% capacity (and that's being generous).  Tradition and support start with US! Not fancy billboards and new facilities.  It's not just athletics either.  Look at Crockett Street.  All the businesses went "belly-up" and were taken over by another person.  Downtown Beaumont is still struggling for a resurgence...it may never happen. WE ARE THE ANSWER AND "WE SUCK AT SUPPORTING ANYTHING LOCAL!"
We need more of this.  Not what they, the university can do.  But what can I do as a Lamar supporter. Put a little peer pressure on your friends and neighbors ask them repeatedly if they are going to the next game.  If they say no try to get them to make it for tailgating.  Everyone likes food.  The success of football will go a long way into the perception of Lamar as a University.  The people in this area are ate up with football.  When high schools spends millions on artificial turf and you don't hear a huge outcry from the tax payers.  You know they think football  is as important as air.
 11. I see that there are tickets available in the white section online.  They also have a number to call. 880-1715
 12. Excuses, excuses, excuses, I'm sure there are some people that do not go to the games because they do not sale all beef hot dogs.  Just like some people do not vote because "All the people that are running for office are crooks."  Some people want to be involved while others just want to point fingers.  All of this constant talk of why someone is not going to the games over basically three young men is puzzling.  There are over eighty young men on the football roster that bust their butts.  But there are repeated post about not attending games because of less than 5% of them they have an issue with.  Lamar University is a very valuable asset to this area.  The university creates jobs in the area and gives us an option not export our money and our kids so they can receive a higher education.  Football is a marketing tool for the university and in Texas it is the biggest tool.  If you ask most people which is the better university between UT and Rice that the majority will say UT. But Rice is rated seventeenth in the nation by U.S. News.  Just because of the exposure UT gets from football sways peoples opinions. Lamar has gotten a good jump on having an exciting football program.  The field house, field, and scoreboard are all first class.  And the tailgating can not be beat. The university has laid a strong foundation for the football program. We as a community have an opportunity to build something everyone can be proud of.  All we have to do is to fill the stands.  That will help the school recover the money that was spent on building that foundation.  Continue filling the stands during the first few lean years, where the wins and completion are not where we would like them to be.  Then the athletic budget could be expanded and could hire a few more coaches as mentioned on here.  More money means being able to travel and recruit more.  The university gave us what we said we wanted for years, FOOTBALL.  Now it is time for us to put our money where our mouth is, and put our butts in the stands. P.S. I hope they get the all beef hot dogs so we can get that +1.
 13.

whoo hoo---SLU's lone fan has showed up
I wouldnt even go that far...I go to maybe 1 or 2 games a year and thats only when I know I can get into the Budweiser Suite. Honestly Im just trying to drum up buiness for my hotel. I tried to go through the universities themselves but could never get anyone to return my phone calls or emails...so I just started searching for the teams fan forums. Do I cheer for SLU...sure..I mean I did go there for a whole 2 semesters before deciding to go into the Army..it is the ONLY college credits I have to my name...we did not have a football team when I was there. And just like most everyone else in Louisiana..I bleed purple and gold. I really have tried to follow SLU football its just so dang inconsistent..one week they will look good the next week they look like a Little Sisters of the Poor team. Althought since I have to cover the front desk and the LSU game is at 1130(I hate JP) I might make it over there for the game...considering a ticket to the game will only set me back $5.00....how good is Lamar's Team?
Lamar's team is AWESOME!!  Just because we have one again.  It should be a good game.  If we do decide to come, do you have any good golf courses in the area?  And what kind of deal can you get us on that.  ;)
 14. The official attendance was 15,367.  I would rather the game be sold out but that is not a bad number.
 15. For a blue collar area we seem to have a lot of people who want everything now.  The people in this area should know that it is going to take a lot of hard work and time to get the football program where all of the fans want it.
 16.
Lazeek:  Reading the blogs and hearing the people talk, it's pretty simple why Lamar fans are losing faith. You have a QB that did great last year and got everyone excited for this year.  He made great decisions. great throws, and no turnovers.  What do we get to start this season?  A different starting QB who makes poor decisions and a bunch of new thugs and criminals we're supposed to root for and support.  Story after story about some of the kids getting the shaft and some good ones quitting.  We get an artificial win the first week and a wake up call the second.  With everything else I mentioned, that's why you're hearing "I told you so" and "Prewitt got screwed" and the whole thread on the thugs.  Are you really surprised???
I don't see anyone losing faith. I don't see Lamar losing fans.  I have seen a couple of profiles who make juvenile comments just for the sake of antagonizing Lamar fans.  The people that are making the negative comments were never Lamar fans so we never lost them.  I'm only  making this post to bring the few of you to light.  I know that not every decision Lamar makes is strawberries and cream.  On the other hand not every decision belongs at the bottom of an outhouse, as suggested by a few.  So when you decide to call ME a CLOWN.  I have a response that is on your level.  I KNOW YOU ARE BUT WHAT AM I? Now I'm done with your game and I hope others follow suit and not respond to this BULL.
 17. I know the game can be seen on FOX 4 is there any place online to watch it?
 18. Cards go on the road and hand USA their first loss!  20 to 16

Hussey was to slow to play at this level, great kid and great hs back but at this level speed kills and that was his downfall!!!! I hope he gets his degree and comes a great hs coach somewhere!!
Yeah he was real slow, had 50+ Td runs agains Central and Ozen and a 70 yard td agains LaMarque.  Kid just had no speed at all!!! ;D
With all due respect (and I am a Hussey fan)...Big difference between High School and College sports.  Woodard put out there who he thought was best after hours, days, weeks and months of evaluation.  Where I come from, if you lose your spot, then you work your butt off to get it back!
Right on the money Smash Mouth.  You have coaches that are making decisions to keep their JOBS.  They are not out there to play favorites. I know everything is nice here at Lamar but some (OK most) of the coaches want to move up.  If you don't put the best players out on the field you only move to the unemployment line.  You can't show the coaches you deserve to play when your not there.
 20.
was there this much jibber jabber last year for the QB's?
Not after the first game.
 21. It is almost impossible to tell how accurate any of the QB's were from last nights game.  With a steady rain and wind gust up to 30 mph it might have a SLIGHT impact on a QB's accuracy.
 22.

What is sad is that if any of your kids were playing and got in trouble you would expect the coach to allow him to be on the team. This is the perfect example of the southeast texas mentality. Everyone will cast stones at others then it has to do with their kids and suddenly their position changes. Oden is here now so right wrong or whatever we have no choice but to deal with it. If you dont like it then dont come to the game! I promise there will still be 16,000+ fans there. Hopefully Beaumont can be the place that this kid gets it together. I dont know if yall saw him or not but there is no doubt he has the talent for the NFL. Im sure when he makes it all of you will forget about this. As to the coaching staff and the university setting a higher standard...maybe since you are the expert you should go work for the NCAA. Personally, I am not afraid to admit that in my younger years I did some things that I could have got caught for. I have drove after drinking before and could have had the same thing happen. Had it happened I sure wish that I would have gotten a second chance to get my life straight. Im sure your son or daughter has done it before. Anyway, that is my two sense. I hope that this team plays great this year. I am completely behind them and the University being an alum.
Everyone will cast stones at others then it has to do with their kids and suddenly their position changes. Some may actually not be so shallow, and hold our kids to a higher standard, I assure you if my kid had not one, but TWO violations of DUI, DWI, colleges (or HS)sports would not be an option. Same is true of girls who get pregnant in HS, then want to come back and participate as an athlete or cheerleader, I think NOT.
Yeah , why even allow the girl back in HIGH SCHOOL? Where KIDS are, that ALWAYS make the right decisions.  I'm sure you get that those last two sentences were loaded with sarcasm.  Don't forget to kick the boy out of school as well.  No athletics, band, debate team, or even the chess club he is done.
