  1. Nederland lost to East Chambers, who Orangefiled beat in the Vidor tourny. OF got 2nd Nederland got 4th that's why I said that. I know Orangefield couldn't beat LC-M they played twice got killed both times. I think the comment about Nederland doing something right because they beat O'field is absurd. It's been my experience in volleyball that you can't use the "Team A beat Team B....who beat Team C....so Team A should definitely beat Team C" theory because a lot of what happens depends on how "up" a team is playing, ability to play as a team (which may wax and wane as the season goes along), and a little luck as well. I understand O'field is having some success and is moving in the right direction, but using them as a compass to grade other teams against is just not warranted at this stage in their program.
  2. Here's a link to the 2009 All-State Teams. [Hidden Content]
  3. What's done is done, and whether he was forced out or just left doesn't matter anymore. Sad to say it, but it's part of coaching. Any man, woman, family that signs on for that lifestyle has to realize it comes with the territory. Do I think the timing could have been better? Absolutely. But you can't do anything about it now. I would think for a new guy coming in it's ideal because he gets to bring all his staff in. Sometimes it is better to get some new perspective in a program. Those guys who have ties from orangefield are great young coaches, but it may be time for them to see what else is out there as well. It helps to keep a positive outlook on a situation such as this because at the end of the day you can't change any of it....just have to find the best fit you can.
  4. May not be up to him. Boards/supers have a way of asking for the resignation without actually asking for the resignation if you know what I mean. That way, on the outside, it looks like the guy just resigned....not that he was asked to. Our AD went through that this year. I don't wish it on anyone because it is a difficult situation any way you look at it. Good luck to all involved.
  5. Really? I mean, I could have sworn we are just heading into the Regional Semis. Last year was last year, and anything can happen.
  6. Gary called a great game. I listened to all 9 innings....sounded like it would have been fun to be there and see it first hand.
  7. That's funny.....because it seems people are talking about it now. :
  8. I'll tell him. I don't think they've handled the situation well at all, but to be honest, you have to respect the fact that they are trying to do what's best for the kids. Last I'll say on the subject.....I think a lot of the difference of opinion lies in a difference in geography. It was more than a little unnerving to live smack in the middle of the swine flu hotbed. LOL
  9. I would hope that parents are being responsible enough to make their children stay away from places such as movie theaters, mallls, etc. I know not all will, but I have made a conscious decision to do so. My daughter had a state developmental gymnastics meet in Arlington today, but I chose to keep her home. The UIL is making the best decision for them in the face of an unprecented situation. Whether the public chooses to follow suit and make an effort to limit exposure to public places is a personal choice that the UIL cannot control. You can see by some of the posts on here that some people do not think there is a thing to be worried about while others, like myself, are making an effort to limit exposure. It's a personal choice, and either way, you are going to have people that are not happy. JMO
  10. Add Lewisville ISD and Ponder ISD to the list. I believe they are closed until May 11. Cleburne is up to 9 probable cases so in all likelihood they will be closed until May 11 as well.
  11. Saw a press conference with the Cleburne super that said they will only open on May 4th if the tests from those four cases came back negative. To be honest, I don't see it happening. They should know more today IF they get the results back. It seems that all of the samples being sent to the CDC are causing a back up, which is delaying test results.
  12. I totally agree regarding your opinion on the borders, and I'm not going to get into an argument regarding differing opinions about the UIL. But in this post I quoted, you said the UIL looks ridiculous. This is an unprecedented situation, and I feel they are acting in our childrens' best interests. That's really all we can ask. Will it be cured by May 11? I think not, but it at least gives them time to monitor the situation and adjust their plans accordingly. I truly think they are doing the best they can with the information that they have.
  13. I wish some of you would gain some perspective about all this. I do realize that this is a sports forum and therefore opinions about how this affects your high school sports abound. However, from someone who lives right smack in the middle of the affected area, please know that while it may seem sensationalized and "inappropriate," at the end of the day I'd rather be safe than sorry. Athletic events do not come before the health of our children, in my opinion. Just so you know, our news just reported that Fort Worth ISD is closed until May 8th due to probable outbreaks. Count yourselves fortunate that at this point you don't have any acute cases.
  14. Cleburne ISD up here in North Texas is closed for the week due to four probable cases.
  15. The game is official after 4 1/2 if the home team is leading. From what I was told the rule was misinterpreted last week and this game is most likely finished. Okay, so by that token the Silsbee/OF game should have been called and Silsbee should have won. Wouldn't that mean that OF should be having a play-in game with someone this upcoming week? I can see if the rule was misinterpreted, however, in the spirit of fairness it should be handled the way it was originally interpreted to preserve the integrity of the district race. I truly believe this one of those examples where adults try to insert themselves into a situation that has nothing to do with them when the only thing the kids want to do is play ball.
  16. MLG66- You might as well get your cleats all cleaned up because there's no way this issue is going to just be let go. The game was not complete, and that's obvious. It will get replayed because that's district policy and at the end of the day, that's what you go by. Funny enough that district policy was enforced with the H-J game, but now your AD wants to change the rules. Thing is, he can't. Bottom line. And my next question is this.....why would you want to win that way anyway? It's not like anyone who is a true fan of the sport would respect a win like that. Settle it on the field the proper way, beat them outright....then come on here running your mouth.
  17. I see the game for what it is as well....both sets of kids are benefitted by playing in such a neat venue. I have no negative feelings toward the game whatsoever. Way back at the beginning of this thread I stated two things. 1. I think it would be appropriate to bring two umps from each area. 2. I wish we could have thrown our lefty the whole game because I, being a passionate Owl fan, feel the game would have ended differently. And I do see how LCM fans would make the same case....as they should, because they too are passionate about their teams. Again, good luck to all on the rest of the season. And Bears09, maybe I should have changed my wording. In citing fairness, I never meant to imply I was unhappy with the umps performance. I thought they did a great job.....as I said earlier in the thread. Seeing as my father-in-law is such a fantastic ump, I have a healthy respect for what they do. I'll leave this alone as I've made my point....we can agree to disagree.
  18. Are you kidding me? I simply stated that in all fairness we should be allowed to bring a couple of our own. Can you not see where that would be a fair request considering Bourgeois has been out of that area now for three years? And just so you know, Bourgeois had NO idea who the Ochoa guy was and only knew Tipton because he used to coach at LCM. : There were no complaints made about any of the guys....I just feel in all fairness we should be allowed to bring a couple of our own. And if Bourgeois' dad gets to call the game, you'll get no complaints out of me. That would just be another opportunity for my children to see their GRANDFATHER. :-*
  19. I agree that's the fairest way to handle it. I know at least one of the coaches feels that way. Can't speak for the other....although the four umps on the field from SE Texas speaks volumes. ;D You did a great job. Thanks for participating in a great day of baseball. I'm glad you and your wife were able to make a weekend out of it. College Station is such an awesome place.
  20. Well, for starters, teams are allowed a certain number of games per year and this just happens to be one of the non-district ones on each teams' schedules. Secondly, there's a history between the two teams for a number of reasons. Joshua's HC Jason Bourgeois worked under Griff at LCM for a couple years before landing the job at Joshua. Small world because Joshua is where Griff got his start as an assistant back in the early 90's. They remain friends and therefore scheduled the game last year as well as this year. Thirdly, how many high school teams can say they've had the opportunity to play at such a cool venue. Olsen Field at A&M is a great experience for these kids. I realize you weren't trying to be "smart" but your question could have been worded differently. Such as, what's the history behind this game? As opposed to making it sound like it was pointless. JMO It was a good game. The weather was awesome and the field looked great. Wish the rotation in our district would have allowed for the lefty to throw all game. Think things would have ended up differently if so. MrUmp- How exactly were the umpires chosen for this one? Just curious....think it would only be fair to bring a couple of our guys in the future. We have some good ones.
  21. I also believe that in most cases it is a travel issue and usually happens in smaller schools. I also think that the "never can get these years back" comment is a bit harsh. Coaches' families can't get back the countless hours they spend working with YOUR kids back either. I know they choose to do it and love it, but I find it hard to believe a coach would purposely schedule a game early just to get home earlier.
  22. Will you be there again this year? Yes , my wife and I will come up for the game, I will get to umpire, and then we will have a relaxing evening. Hope to see you there. Was fun last year and I expect the same. Great! I should be there unless something were to come up. See ya then....have a safe trip there.
  23. Well, for starters, I am neither big nor a boy. And secondly, I much prefer 4A baseball. I just find it humorous to see the repeated whining about 3A baseball rankings on this board. Southeast Texas has some pretty competitive 4A programs with proven playoff success although none are ranked. You don't see anyone from those schools on here crying about it. I was born and raised in Southeast Texas, and before I got the opportunity to move away, I, too, saw it as it's own little bubble. But believe me, there is a whole other world (or should I say state?) out there full of some pretty salty baseball clubs. And comparatively speaking, they are just as good or better than the ones down in SE Texas. I'm not going to give picks because that's for the people who run the polls to decide. I simply pointed out that your logic is flawed. Last I'll say about it....it's obvious you are a serious homer.
