  1. Nederland lost to East Chambers, who Orangefiled beat in the Vidor tourny. OF got 2nd Nederland got 4th that's why I said that. I know Orangefield couldn't beat LC-M they played twice got killed both times. I think the comment about Nederland doing something right because they beat O'field is absurd. It's been my experience in volleyball that you can't use the "Team A beat Team B....who beat Team C....so Team A should definitely beat Team C" theory because a lot of what happens depends on how "up" a team is playing, ability to play as a team (which may wax and wane as the season goes along), and a little luck as well. I understand O'field is having some success and is moving in the right direction, but using them as a compass to grade other teams against is just not warranted at this stage in their program.
  2. Here's a link to the 2009 All-State Teams. [Hidden Content]
  3. What's done is done, and whether he was forced out or just left doesn't matter anymore. Sad to say it, but it's part of coaching. Any man, woman, family that signs on for that lifestyle has to realize it comes with the territory. Do I think the timing could have been better? Absolutely. But you can't do anything about it now. I would think for a new guy coming in it's ideal because he gets to bring all his staff in. Sometimes it is better to get some new perspective in a program. Those guys who have ties from orangefield are great young coaches, but it may be time for them to see what else is out there as well. It helps to keep a positive outlook on a situation such as this because at the end of the day you can't change any of it....just have to find the best fit you can.
  4. May not be up to him. Boards/supers have a way of asking for the resignation without actually asking for the resignation if you know what I mean. That way, on the outside, it looks like the guy just resigned....not that he was asked to. Our AD went through that this year. I don't wish it on anyone because it is a difficult situation any way you look at it. Good luck to all involved.
  5. Really? I mean, I could have sworn we are just heading into the Regional Semis. Last year was last year, and anything can happen.
  6. Gary called a great game. I listened to all 9 innings....sounded like it would have been fun to be there and see it first hand.
  7. That's funny.....because it seems people are talking about it now. :
  8. I'll tell him. I don't think they've handled the situation well at all, but to be honest, you have to respect the fact that they are trying to do what's best for the kids. Last I'll say on the subject.....I think a lot of the difference of opinion lies in a difference in geography. It was more than a little unnerving to live smack in the middle of the swine flu hotbed. LOL
  9. I would hope that parents are being responsible enough to make their children stay away from places such as movie theaters, mallls, etc. I know not all will, but I have made a conscious decision to do so. My daughter had a state developmental gymnastics meet in Arlington today, but I chose to keep her home. The UIL is making the best decision for them in the face of an unprecented situation. Whether the public chooses to follow suit and make an effort to limit exposure to public places is a personal choice that the UIL cannot control. You can see by some of the posts on here that some people do not think there is a thing to be worried about while others, like myself, are making an effort to limit exposure. It's a personal choice, and either way, you are going to have people that are not happy. JMO
  10. Add Lewisville ISD and Ponder ISD to the list. I believe they are closed until May 11. Cleburne is up to 9 probable cases so in all likelihood they will be closed until May 11 as well.
  11. Saw a press conference with the Cleburne super that said they will only open on May 4th if the tests from those four cases came back negative. To be honest, I don't see it happening. They should know more today IF they get the results back. It seems that all of the samples being sent to the CDC are causing a back up, which is delaying test results.
  12. I totally agree regarding your opinion on the borders, and I'm not going to get into an argument regarding differing opinions about the UIL. But in this post I quoted, you said the UIL looks ridiculous. This is an unprecedented situation, and I feel they are acting in our childrens' best interests. That's really all we can ask. Will it be cured by May 11? I think not, but it at least gives them time to monitor the situation and adjust their plans accordingly. I truly think they are doing the best they can with the information that they have.
  13. I wish some of you would gain some perspective about all this. I do realize that this is a sports forum and therefore opinions about how this affects your high school sports abound. However, from someone who lives right smack in the middle of the affected area, please know that while it may seem sensationalized and "inappropriate," at the end of the day I'd rather be safe than sorry. Athletic events do not come before the health of our children, in my opinion. Just so you know, our news just reported that Fort Worth ISD is closed until May 8th due to probable outbreaks. Count yourselves fortunate that at this point you don't have any acute cases.
  14. Cleburne ISD up here in North Texas is closed for the week due to four probable cases.
