Will know for sure next year when all of Mermorial players are gone  ;)
U obviously don't remember what he did with Vidor talent-they went to playlets four years straight! Before then, NEVER!!! since he left, not ONE playoff appearance!! Nederland had not made the playoff in 15 years until he arrived. Since then, 3 playoff trips, and (about to be) two straight district titles-enough said!!!
Vidor did not make the playoffs 4 years straight.  The team that beat Ozen 3 times in 1 year made the playoffs and lost in the first round.
You could not be more wrong sir!!They won at least two games that year, then got beat by a Nacogdoches team led by Damion James. The game was played in College Station. I do apologize though, they only made the playoffs three years straight, not four. Again, the point is that he coaches them to the playoffs for the first time EVER!!! And Vidor has not been back since. Last year Nederland won district for the first time in 55 years!! Again, they won at least two games in the playoffs. This year, Nederland will be back-back district champs for the first time ever, and a 3rd yr consecutively to the playoffs. Not a bad resume in anyone's book...
If you guys have not figured it out yet this is just a Silsbee fan looking to start more junk on this board.  SP is a great player and should be considered one of the best in the area and likely will be the best next season, but DC is the best player in the area this year, no questions about it.
K. Smith is in the top 5 in the area, and he deserves a mention.
2 or 3
If Silsbee should be ranked 2 or 3, then where would you put Hj and why?
I don't think 11 is unfair, but they're a top-10 team... maybe 7th or 8th.  Look at their losses, three probable 4A playoff teams, one of the best 3A teams in the state in Silsbee (and they were in great position to win this one), and a 1-point loss to defending 1A state champs Cayuga (which they later avenged by 19).
Why is Nederland ranked #20? They were 19th for 3-4 weeks. All four of their losses r against 5A schools. They've won at least 12 in a row...

Dude is a genious when it comes to X's and O's...
But does he know how to sub and put players in positions to win the game? ;D
Like no other coach around(english). He substitutes his players constantly-especially at end of games when the game is on the line. As far as talent goes for the next 4-5 years, just look how many games the JV and freshman teams have lost all year-3(that's both teams together)!!!!
Definately more so when it comes to the hardwood!!
Now that Coach English has the Dogs winning, they are just as passionate about basketball as they are football. The Gym is packed almost every night. SRO when they play PN-G. It use to not be that way. It's amazing what success (and a good coach) can do for a program...

 10.
Great Job kid! Keep playing hard! Some people post stuff because they have no life. Its a great story. Did you play QB or basketball? I doubt it!
Don't get too excited over this kid. I started at QB in HS, was all-district and area, started 2 years (playing BB) as a shooting guard at a 4A HS, started on the soccer team, and lettered in track for 3 years, but that did not equate to a dominating career in college. Y'all have to realize how much more talent is outside of 'The Triangle'. Many athletes (including myself) would probably only start for One sport for MOST 5-A schools in Houston/Dallas. It is just a different BEAST!!!

 12.
1-2 after playing the 2 top teams in the district. Not blaming the coach for the unforced to's. The kids had plenty of oppurtunity's to win both games. I'm saying that vidors starting five are as good, Individually, as any other in the district. They just make bad decisions that are costing them close games.
Your as good as your record indicates. 1-2 in District is below par regardless of who you play. You become 'as good as' any other team when you beat 'the best two teams' in district. Maybe they'll beat them on round two, but I highly doubt it. Remember, basketball is not an individual sport, it's a TEAM sport.
 13. Not a lot of pure point guards in the area. There are lots of 'creative players' especially from Silsbee, but I would not consider them a BJ Tyler type PG. However, the most impressive forward/post I've seen is the kid from Silsbee...WOW!! The tall lankey kid from Nederland should be considered too. Points guards r not that impressive this year, that's prob why the only team from SETX that has a chance to make it to Austin is the team from Silsbee. Big men win district championships....guards win state championships.
 14. I played against Damon Sweet, BJ Tyler, and a guy from Lincoln with a last name of McElroy, Kelvin?? (He played w/BJ Tyler) Can anyone help me out here? I believe they are all deserving for the consideration. In addition to your list, I believe a few honorable mentions should be: Jamie Weaver Bobby Straface Jake (kid from Vidor) Gene Isabell
 15.
Brian English.....Nederland Bulldogs....Can't argue with this one...Coach English has brought basketball back to Nederland with a winning tradition. A district championship and good playoff run speaks for itself. He is developing Nederland's basketball program from little dribblers, into middle school, and throughout highschool. This was demonstrated tonight as Nederland won the Gulf Coast Classic championship!!!!......Thank you Coach English...BASKETBALL IS NO LONGER A SECONDARY SPORT IN NEDERLAND!!
It's hard to not agree with this choice. English is in the top 5 for sure, and probably the top 2. After bringing Vidor out of a 'forever' slump in the playoffs in Basketball playoffs, he accomplished a play off appearance by the 3rd year he took over. I don't think Vidor EVER went to the playoffs before he arrived. During his fourth year, they went 29-6 and made a deep run in the playoffs-Lost to Nacogdoches in College Station (I think)to one Damion James. He brought his team to the playoffs 2 additional times. Then, after just 3 years at Nederland, he again lead the dogs to a winning season and a trip to the playoffs for only the 2nd time 50 years. Last year, Nederland won it's 1st District title in over 55 years!! Coach English is on pace to make another deep run in the playoffs this year. From the 7th grade ranks to the Varsity level, EVERY team is winning in high frequency. If he stays around, he'll have many more playoff runs for at least 5 years. He can validate his legacy with a trip to the final four in Austin.
