HJ 9 HF 7 Stuart Flowers kicks three 40 yard FG's !

It has always been PNG and probably always will ! I am still amazed. Last week I spoke to someone that was trying to get tickets through a scalper. (No pun intended)

Jeffrey Trevino at Kelly. His kick-offs usually have a good hang time and land near the 5 yard line. I believe he has made all but one extra point (bad hold on sloppy field). He has the distance to hit a FG from at least 40 yards.

The guys at the South East Texas Baseball Academy (Ford Park) are worth the extra few miles.

Kelly High School will graduate 5 outstanding young men and great baseball players. Donnie Carona - A 3 year starter, Donnie has done everything the team has asked him to do. He has played 8 of the 9 positions on the field. Donnie combines speed, strength and intelligence. He leads the team in stolen bases (9 for 9) with a .277 Batting Average , .384 Slugging Percentage. Donnie hit a Grand Slam HR against rival St. Pius. After Kelly's last baseball game, Donnie will shift 100 % of his athletic concentration to kicking for Coach Mike Leach at Texas Tech University (in addition to varsity baseball, he was a a 2-way starter in football, and a great soccer player). Zach Celeste Starting Pitcher with 6 - 3 record and an meager ERA of 1.58. The highlight of this year was his 7 inning No Hitter over Buna. Zach missed the Perfect Game by 1 walk and 1 infield error (he picked off one runner and the other was retired on a DP). Zach is a "student of the game" , he locates his pitches well and never seems flustered on the mound. Anthony Fazio - 79 Strike Outs in 50 Innings Pitched ! Opponents Batting Average is .152 ! Anthony is also the Clean-Up hitter, driving in 21 runs, with a .298 Batting Average. Anthony has a scholarship to play baseball with Rice University. Anthony is a outstanding student that will graduate with top honors. Matt Messina Matt can flat out rake ! He leads the team in Batting Average at .433. He is a 2 year letterman at First Base and DH. Although very quiet, Matt is definitely a team leader that the younger players look up to. Matt has a rough year battling illness and injury. Landon Steinhagen Landon has caught every single inning of every single game this year. He is a "Wall" behind the plate ! He has thrown out over 60% of opponents attempting to steal. Due to Landon's knowledge of the game, he is one of a very few high school catchers that coaches allow to call pitches. Landon had a Slugging Pct. of .697 and On Base Pct. of .577 (1.274 OPS !). Landon will play college baseball at Howard College. I fully expect to see him advance to a major university or into the pros.

Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School will play Harlingen Marine Military Academy one game this Saturday May, 3 at 12:00 in Harlingen, Texas. The winner will qualify the TAPPS 6A State Tournament in Waco the following week.

KELLY 11 , DALLAS BISHOP LYNCH 1 Anthony Fazio made short work of opposing Dallas Bishop Lynch. Fazio struck out 7 Falcons in 5 innings allowing only 3 base hits. Sophomore Sean O'Connell was 2 for 3 driving in 3 runs with a double. Tyler Falgout (another sophomore) was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's , and had 2 Stolen Bases. Landon Steinhahgen had an RBI Triple in the bottom of the 5th. Then Dunne intentinally walked the next two batters, bringing up Sophomore Taylor Zummo who slammed a hit down the left field line driving in the 10 Run Rule Game Winner ! Kelly advances to play Harlingen Marine Military Academy at site and date to be announced later.

Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School and Bishop Dunne High School from Dallas will play in the first round of the TAPPS 6A State playoffs. Kelly will host the game this FRIDAY 4/25 11:00 am

How about Williams the catcher for Vidor ? He hustles his rear off ! And I saw him umpire the little guys at Ford Park this weekend. He must love baseball !

Hearbreaking loss for Kelly - After being down 9 to 3, the Bulldogs rallied to tie in the top of the 7th on Connor McDonald's 2 out , 2 strike double. Only to have Ray Eureste single in the winning run with 2 outs , 2 strikes in the bottom of the 7th. Kelly is now 3-2 in district. Tuesday's home game with St. Thomas is a MUST WIN for the Bulldogs to secure the district crown. Kelly 0 0 1 0 2 2 4 - 9 9 1 St. Pius 2 0 4 0 3 0 1 - 10 9 2 Kelly Highlights : Matt Messina was 2 for 3 with a HR ; Alex Henton was 2 for 4 with a double ; Connor McDonald was 2 for 4 with a double, 3 RBI's ; Landon Steinhagen had a triple. Starting pitcher Anthony Fazio went 2.0 IP with 5 ER , Zach Celeste followed with 3.0 IP and 4 ER , Doug Prewitt pitched effectively : 2 IP , 1 ER only to be saddled with the loss.

West Brook's Patrick Ford is tearing it up for Coach Terry Puhl at UH Victoria. He is hitting .507 with 9 HR's.

I don't know how many HR's he has this year, but he has 2 in 2 games against Kelly (Anthony Fazio) ! Jonathan Mejia is a 6'4", 15 y/o sophomore (imagine Terrel Owens physique). Me, I don't know anything........ but I do know this : He is the REAL DEAL ! IMO : He (or Trae Hester) is the best sophomore in the state !!!

Kelly loses a back and forth game to Houston St. Thomas 7 to 5. With Assistant Coach Craig Biggioin the dugout, Kelly rallyed to take the lead in the top of the 4th on Tyler Falgout's RBI single. Then Jonathan Mejia put the the Eagles ahead with a homer in the bottom half. Highlights for Kelly : Connor McDonald was 2 for 4 with a double , Alex (A Train) Henton had triple with 2 RBI's.

Zach Celeste had a another great outing ! Celeste scattered 8 hits over 6 2/3 innings while striking out 6 Panthers. Landon Steinhagen threw out one of the base runners attempting to steal and Celeste picked off two at first. Anthony Fazio got the Save by striking out the final batter on three straight pitches - GAS !!! Kelly now leads TAPPS 6A District 3 at 3-0.

Blue, This comes up all the time : Explain what you consider a "swing" and a "checked swing". It seems most people think the term "broke his wrists" is in the rule book.

Landon Steinhagen at Kelly is hitting near .400 with 3 HR's and gets walked once or twice per game ! As a catcher he has thrown out most of those attempting to steal.
