  1. West Brook's Nathaniel Svoboda tosses a 7 inning Perfect Game to beat Ozen 4 - 0 !!! Svoboda struck out 20 ! The only ball put into play was a ground ball to first where Svoboda covered ! Ozen sophomore Jeffrey Jolivet also pitched a complete game, giving up only 4 hits.
  2. All Sunbeblt Conference Pre-Season pick Jake Henderson had an impressive outing in his season debut. Jake was the Winning Pitcher for the University of New Orleans (3-0) over Towson (0-3). Henderson tossed 7 shut-out innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2.
  3. Westend1 you must follow Westbrook. You have seen LCM and PNG. Who has the better team in your opinion? LCM
  4. More : 1) I was the only 12 y/o on Little League team that went 0 - 14. 2) I coached a Little League City Playoff game where my son struck out 18 (in 6 innings) and we LOST ! 3) My HS coach told me , he was the only coach in the district that didn't think I deserved "All District" (I got Honorable Mention) 4) At a Select World Series in St. Louis, they sold canned Budweisers for a dollar. After a rain delay, several of us dads decided that if your son got a hit you had to buy a round. From what I was told, my son had 5 hits in 4 AB. 5) I hit a HR in Little League Opening Day 1969, it made the opposing pitcher cry. I work with that guy now. (I won't bring it up with him)
  5. 5 Things I saw in the Astrodome : 1) Will Clark's first Major League At Bat - a HR off Nolan Ryan. 2) Mike Schmidt hit a ball that bounced off a speaker hanging in CF - only got a single. 3) Dwight Gooden's first Major League start at 19 years old. 4) Andre Dawson hit a HR into the sky boxes. 5) Ken Forsh pitching a no-hitter (My friend, DB, and I ran onto the field after the game - We took the rosin bag, which he still has)
  6. 1. WB - Svoboda and Muellner lead a talented team loaded with Senior pitchers - Huge school, 90 players trying out. 2. PNG - An All-Star team with Benoit, Reyenga, Sweetnam, Jalali and Stone. 3. Nederland - With Bellow pitching and Vidrine and Pitts in the IF, may need to be ranked higher. 4. LCM - Always a tough well coached team. Johnson, Barry, and Waddell are top players. 5. Vidor - Best team in the area when Hester is on the mound. Bruce, Sims are good too. 6. BC - Will go far in play-offs with Hicks and Roberson. 7. Jasper - Will be even better next year - Ernest, Phillips & Parker are just Juniors. 8. Kelly - Return 10 players with "varsity starter" experience from the # 2 team in the state. Tough schedule though. Excellent coaching. 9. OF If Statum and Felts get some help, they will dominate. 10. HF New coach inherits a lot of talent : Eaves, Pinder, Minaldi, Johnson
  7. What if Roger had just said something like : "During my playing career I was always looking for an edge. Every teammate I ever had will tell you how hard I worked. But as I got older, injuries were harder to overcome and I have to admit that my competiveness caused me to fail to resist the temptations that were readily available in every MLB locker room and most personal gyms across America. For this I am truly sorry."
  8. I am glad to see one of my all time favorites, Jim Rice, get in. In his era, his numbers were awesome. You should not compare those numbers to those of the steroid era. Andre Dawson was FEARED. He definitely should be in. I saw him hit a ball in the Astrodome that went into the very highest section of seats. It was a longer HR than Jimmy Wynn or Doug Rader's that had special marked seats. Dale Murphy would get my vote if for nothing more than he was a class guy. However, he is a 2 time MVP so his career qualifies him also. I would vote for Lee Smith too. Rickey (I Am The Greatest) Henderson was traded away by a lot of teams. Which makes me think there were some others on his teams that doubted his self evaluation.
  9. What a great game. It looks like we have a city rivalry !
  10. LCM (Shane Waddell) , PNG (Chris Sweetnam) , Nederland (Kirby Bellow) and Vidor (Trae Hester) all have an outstanding Junior to anchor their staffs. But in my opinion, Trae Hester is just on a different level.
  11. EXCELLENT JOB by Claire and the girls !!! A huge win !!! Claire is only a sophomore !!! 3 goals and 1 assist !!!
  12. I just returned from the Perfect Game Underclass Showcase in Ft. Myers Florida. I would like to report: Jace Statum LHP/OF from Orangefield posted the fastest 6o yard dash time of all underclass attendess (91 players). He ran a 6.7 on a "slow, muddy track". Statum also hit the first pitch he saw out of the park! This is on a former MLB Spring Training site. Jacob Felts RHP/C from Orangefield, Trae Hester LHP/OF/1B from Vidor, Kirby Bellow LHP/1B from Nederland, Connor McDonald 2B/SS - West Brook, Will Henderson OF/3B - West Brook, and Aaron Morgan 3B/C/1B/OF/RHP (the kid can play anywhere!) - West Brook all had good showings at the event also.
  13. Chris Muellner made All-District OF and was named Offensive MVP for West Brook last year as a Junior. He hit over .400. With his "sweet swing" I would expect nothing less this year. No area All-Star team would be legitimate if he were not included. Alex Henton - is a power hitting OF for Kelly that was named fisrt team All-District and Honorable Mention All-State. Connor McDonald was named first team All-District SS as sophomore at Kelly but now plays at West Brook. Sean O'Connell (OF), Doug Prewitt (2B) and Dan Mulvaney (OF) were all named to All Tournament team for Kelly at the State Championships. Kelly finished second to Craig Biggio's St. Thomas team.

  15. I wonder if Mack Brown, Mike Leach, Bob Stoops, Gary Kubiak or Wade Phillips have their Masters ? I really have no idea. If they do not, then I assume they are not qualified to coach at PNG HS ? Mike Long is a good man and a great coach. What some you have to realize is: At Kelly, EVERY game is against a larger school. He still has a winning record. He does as much with what he has any coach.
  16. Buna 28 Anahuac 14 J. Clark 2 rushing TD , 2 passing TD
  17. Donnie Carona has obviously struggled some. - Like banking one in off the upright. BUT ! The blocked kicks can't be all his fault. His replacement had two extra points blocked ! And there has been a punt blocked this season (and Tech seldom punts). You have to think there are more problems with the special teams than just the kicker. Donnie will return to kicking XP's and FG's this week. He never lost his kick off kickoff duties. And if they break a return while he is on the field, like Coach Leach said "Carona he will put a lick on 'em !"
