  1. Do you have Selheimer's (not sure of spelling) HR totals from late seventies?  We beat them but he hit two monster shots - one in BC and one in Fireman's Park.
  2. If we are struggling at the plate with a 12-14 team's #2 pitcher, we have major problems!  May be buying tickets to watch the rest of the playoffs!  I hope not!  Let's go guys - bring the sticks!
  3. I agree - you can't give good hitters good pitches to hit when you are ahead in the count.  OF has a couple of guys who will make you pay for it!  The most important thing is for BC to hit with men in scoring position.  We k way too much!
  4. Picking BC in this one is sort of like picking Tiger against Mickelson - anything could happen but, dang, its Tiger!  How do you pick against him?  That's how I feel about Hicks.  How do you pick against him?  I would take BC with him on the mound against anyone in the area.  If he doesn't get careless while ahead in the count against OF's two best hitters, he should shut them down.  I am partial being from BC but I know and like many of the OF guys also.  I hope it is a great game with good sportsmanship - from players and fans.  Appreciate it for what it is - one for the ages!  Good luck to both teams and GO BIG RED! ;D
  5. No doubt Felts is one of the 2 or 3 best catchers in SE Texas but I think the scouts see potential in him more than anything else.  He is a great kid by all accounts but his mechanics behind the plate still need some work.  As of now, his athletic ability overcomes some of his shortcomings but at the next level, that will not be acceptable.  Don't get me wrong, the boy can definitely play at the next level and will be successful.  He still needs some seasoning to get there.  I must admit I have not seen Parker behind the plate but have seen him hit - he's good at the plate.  Matt Menard is better now behind the plate than Bingham.  As far as the best players in the area, Felts and Hicks - hands down.
  6. Lumberton got 4 hits - three were HR's - not off our big gun on the mound.  I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet.
  7. Powell never played college ball but did throw some semi-pro in Port Arthur.  That Liberty game was pitched the first six innings left-handed and struck out the side right-handed in the seventh.  Liberty was very weak that year and as I remember, they were not happy about Steve changing hands.  Thought we were rubbing it in.  He also had one hell of a pick-off move to second base!  Also, one of the games of that double-header, Lance Lee hit a fly ball to center field that bounced off the centerfielder's noggin' all the way to the right field corner!  Still laughing about that one!  Orange Leader's John Curlyo dropped his scorebook he was laughing so hard!  They had about 5 fans in the stands and one of them yelled at Young the entire time calling him "bus-driver."  Ah, what memories!
  8. '80 - Kevin Bergeron - Deadly submarine arm
  9. Kind of sensitive there, eh Hobbs? Livingston beat a good team and OF will make the playoffs - just wasn't their night. Can't win them all.
  10. ???Is it just me or was this a strange tourney? I think everyone in the tourney won at least one close one and lost one they should have won! ???
  11. Hey Crackerjack, You're KILLING me with the Johnson photo! Can't you at least let me draw a moustache or horns on him? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  12. Whoever gets the job, everyone in BC should remember that they all have a common goal - raise the young people there to be quality, productive citizens within this community or any other they may end up in. It is the school board's job to set policy and hire someone to carry that out. I've met Harrison and he is perfectly capable of carrying out the task. Assign the AD to recommend a coach for hire and trust the people you hired to do their job. Stop whining - life is not fair - only 9 can play at a time - sometimes it will be your kid - sometimes it won't. When its' not, teach them to be good sports and to try again, maybe harder. Baseball is not an easy game - if it was, everyone would play. All of the coaches mentioned on this thread have excellant attributes that would make them great coaches. Let's allow those who are tasked with the responsibility to hire the "right person" the opportunity to do just that. Finally, whoever gets the job, do not be afraid to run your team the way you know how. Sometimes telling mom or dad or grandpa to have a seat and watch is a good thing. If they can't, there's always the Glee Club! ;D
  13. Coach Bryant is a fine upstanding person and knows the game. He is paying for the "sins" of others and the fact that he doesn't "hob-knob" with the parents. Every coach has issues with relatives of players and Coach Bryant happened to not play someone who was related to a person or persons who had the "stroke" to make him pay for it. We all sat on our hands and let that moron Les Johnson run off Chuck and here we go again! This is not about personality. It's about doing what is right and baseball! Now, having said that, Coach Bryant - just like any coach - knows the way this works. Make the wrong person angry, and it is just a matter of time. Billy will land on his feet. I also want to say I hope we do not promote from within. With this program, we can hire an excellant coach from anywhere. Under other circumstances, people would line up for the job. Now, who knows?
  14. Jackson, Monse, or Bronson - any of the three would be an excellent chooice for MVP. Being from BC, I would love to see Jackson win the award. My friends in Jasper would argue Malcolm is the man - hands down. Monse had an excellent season but for anyone to say that one of these was head and shoulders over the other is just being partial to their home team. One of the posts (POPSXSIX) said he didn't see how the coaches could have given the award to anyone else. That is tunnel vision - pure and simple. Again, Monse had a great year and I say congrads! If Bronson gets the award, guess what, I still say congrads! And last but not least - Casey - all of BC thinks you are the MVP. Good luck to all three in the playoffs! Good article Gabe - I know it was meant to bolster an Orange County player, not tear down a player from another county.
  15. I agree - way too many yards given up on the ground! Other teams in our district will kill us if that continues. I do like the spread - fun to watch.
  16. Josh is a good athlete but 4.4? I think not! I spoke to a coach - they don't have a 4.4 kid in the program.
  17. If I go by what i have seen with my own eyes, statistics aside, the best pitcher to come out of BC was a guy by the name of Terry Cockerham. He got injured his senior year when someone talked him into punting the football and his fastball was never the same. This was probably before most of your time!
  18. They are not picked based on playoff performance. Just District - most of our errors came in the playoffs.
  19. Good Job Bulldogs! Take out LE tomorrow! If we have to stay home, I would like it to be because the team that beat us won it all! Also, the first time I saw Parsons pitch, I made the comment "He couldn't break a window!" Now I know he is the kind of pitcher who you start out the game thinking you will smash him and before you know it you're in the 7th and down a few runs - and haven't touched him all day! My hat is off and I wish you guys the best! Bring it home!
