  1. Need to, news report today says this is no different from the seasonal Flu. Liberty ISD returning to school Wed.

Not only are they finding it to be no different, but the outbreak is very minor.  41 cases in Texas so far.  Dang, we've had 41 kids out in our school district at one time because of the flu and there was no panic!  Yes, the officials should admit that they were being cautious but the concerns never panned out and let's get back to normal.

  2. Yes Gwood... I was just joking with you ;D; however,  the overall pitching for BC is quite good and Hicks is becoming more exceptional.  Things have really progressed since the early days of the preseason.  BC did lose to a good Nederland 4A~~~ WAY back then. BC has never played a team they could beat 15-0 like Gladewater: who some feel is a hapless situation.

Seeing Nederland beat a prime PNG(this Tuesday night) with a one hitter by their stout Quarterback/ Ace Pitcher (Bellow); I feel that the loses back in early preseason are nothing to be ashamed of when that team--Nederland-- is at the top end of a good 4A District.

Sorry that I feel Cuero and Longview Spring Hill are just not playing the competition that dozens of other teams are facing-- is just a personal viewpoint.   LOL

Lets face it Gladewater is 0-7,1-13, I pity the team Gladewater beat   ::)

My opinion is that the "stars" of 17-3A: Spring Hill and Bullard would come in at the bottom of 21-3A if that had to compete in that setting.

    LOL.  You are hopeless!

the kid from navasota that no hit taylor must be something. what you know about him? did brooks throw against navasota that game?

I know very little about him.  I saw in the Brazos online newspaper that this was his 2nd no-hitter of the season.  The first against a 2A school-perfect game.  I looked at my Navasota roster and he is listed as a Junior so the "Rice" thing may just be a rumor.  At 5-4, Navasota is 2 games behind 3rd place Cameron Yoe (7-2).  They play Cameron Fri night.  Playoffs are within reach for navasota but they will need to win out.

Brooks did pitch for Taylor.  Gave up 4 hits, 1 run, 10 K's, 0 BBs in 7 IP.  You think that wins most games.  In the 5th he gave up a single, SAC, and a single that allowed the lone Navasota run.  Taylor lost 0-1.

  4. BCs Matt Hicks struck out 15 in the last ballgame and that was against a bonafied good 3A team from a strong 21-3A District.   ;D

I think you are just trying to give me a hard time, nevertheless....I saw Hicks pitch in the Nederland tournament.  I was very impressed.  It seemed to me that he has a tad more pop on his fastball than Methvin but Methvin had a more effective curveball.  However, to be fair, it was early in the season when I saw Hicks pitch (March 6) as compared to when I saw Methvin (April 7).

  5. copy/paste

Taylor is for real, in a big way, they have not played a soft schedule...I think politics got in the way even ranking Cuero and Spring Hill in the top 5 in 3A.  What they did after TWO unranked 2As- White Oak and Hallettesville beat Cuero and Spring Hill: they dropped some excellent teams out in 2A and ranked Cuero and Spring Hill at the top in 3A and ALSO moved the teams that beat them (2As) into the top positions in the 2A rankings.

Sections of the state are--home cooking favored-- on the Coaches Poll!

    ==============

Sir here is my answer somewhat that was posted somewhere else on this board--I feel Cuero and Springhill rightfully should have dropped out of the top 5 on 3A on  loses to mediocre 2As: instead of keeping them on top of 3A and elevating those two 2A teams to the TOP rankings in 2A.  Everyone has an opinion, and this is just one of many opinions.  ;D

EAST TX - Appreciate your opinion and thoughts.  Not all of your facts are right  Below is the THSBCA preseason 2A poll.  Hallettsville and White Oak have been there from the beginning.  I saw where now you are claiming politics in the coaches' poll on the other thread.  Is that something you know for sure?  That sounds irrational to me unless you know something most of us don't.

Certainly polls are just people's opinions.  But they should have some reasoning for them.  Makes for good discussion nevertheless.

    THSBCA Preseason 2A Top 10:

    1. BUNA

    2. SAN ANGELO GRAPE CREEK

    3. HALLETTSVILLE

    4. RIVIERA KAUFER

    5. ROGERS

    6. WHITE OAK

    7. HOLLIDAY

    8. PALMER

    9. GRANDVIEW

    10. ROSEBUD LOTT

  6. Gwood is a good man.  He knows what 21-3a is capable of.   :)  I met him at state in 07 when Jasper went to the tournament as the number four seed.  He told me that Abilene Wylie had three tough pitchers.  He was right, but Jasper won 11-3.  Then he told me that it was going to be tough in the next game, that LE was the defending state champion.  He was right, but Jasper won 14-4.  I say, don't worry about his rankings.  He does the best he can with very limited resources.  Even if you do not agree with his rankings, he still does 3a baseball a great service by accumulating probably the best data base in the state.  But I doubt he will ever forget what a team from 21-3a is capable of.    ;)

You are right about Jasper.  I thought LE was the best team in the tournament.  But do you remember the year before that I thought Bridge City was the best team in 3A and they got beat by LE?  I still think Bridge City was the best team that year but L-E was the hottest team in 3A that 2nd week in June.

I think you underestimate my feelings about STEX baseball.  I'm actually jealous.  It's not too fun fighting that west texas "football first" mentality there.  I love the passion for baseball here but dang, just because I don't rank the best 21-3A #1 in the state doesn't mean I am anti-21-3A.  LOL.

  7. To Gwood,  Kind of interesting,  Cuero losses to a 2A without real credentials--while Buna in 2A is rated #1.  Against 21-3A  Bridge City beat Buna 11-1; H-J wins 11-0 & 3-1; & Orangefield loses 7-8....Maybe there were more games against Buna,... not sure?... but apparently no 21-3A has too much of a problem with one of the better 2As....

Spring Hill also got beat by a non-rated 2A..  Comments?

    Halletsville ranked #1; White Oak who beat Spring Hill ranked #5;

Not sure what your point is, though.  I assume you think I am not giving 21-3A enough credit?

  8. Gwood was at the OF tourney so he has seen all 21-3A teams but WOS. When he was here he also went and watched BC in the Nederland tourney

It was fun to experience 21-3A baseball.  I have seen Bridge City and Jasper at the state tournament but this was my first trip to STEX territory.

And since there are no games close to me tonight I plan to tune in for the OF/HF broadcast tonight.  Should be a good one.

  9. No sir, I have never seen all these rated teams play--maybe you have, but I have not?

Cuero did play a good team from Hallettsville and lost.

Here is a quote from another site, "I was sitting at a Cuero game and overheard a college head coach and a major league scout say that there were no Division 1 players on the Cuero baseball team...both at the game and both said no players...the head coach had been to two of their games."

My opinion is based on the games & teams's records played thus far and District setting that they participate in. I guarantee any team in 21-A would easily make the playoff in Cueros' District.

It's a discussion board, we can all have opinions.

I think you would change your mind if you saw Cuero play.  #1 in 3A?  You could debate that.  There are some good teams out there.  But they are not imposters.  They are a good team.  I would probably agree with the scout who said there are no Div 1 players on their team.  How many D1 players are there at the 3A level.  4? 5?  I know of 3.  (Brooks from Taylor-UH; Wacha, Pleasant Grove and Miller, Brownwood-A&M)

But Cuero has at least 5 (one of them a junior who likely will choose a football scholarship over baseball) and possibly two more who will be playing college ball somewhere.  That is a good 3a team.

You could be right about any 21-3A team making the playoffs in 28-3A.  There are no other teams to challenge Cuero in that district.  But Cuero is 14-1 and hasn't played a district game yet.  They are 3-0 vs. 4A, won the New Braunfels Canyon (4A) Tournament, and gave a private school John Paul II, their first loss of the season.

I have seen them play and they are the real deal.
