  5. Lumberton's Beard commits to SMU for football

    From the Beaumont Enterprise Online:

    Lumberton senior linebacker Anthony Beard verbally committed to play football at Southern Methodist University, his high school coach said today.

    Lumberton coach Alvin Credeur said Beard committed to SMU on Saturday. Because a verbal commitment is a non-binding agreement, Beard can change his until he signs with SMU on National Signing Day. The earliest he can sign with SMU is Feb. 3.

    Beard joins Central receiver Keenan Holman as the area's only players to commit to SMU, which is currently in first place in Conference USA.

    "It was when he was a freshman, you could see that he had the instincts to play at the next level," Credeur said.

    Beard, who is The Enterprise's reigning Super Gold Player of the Year, led Lumberton with 97 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, three sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception this season. Lumberton finished 5-5 overall but 2-5 in district where it missed the playoffs for the first time in three seasons.

    To put it all into perspective, I woke up this morning thinking about this season.  We ended up 5-5 for the year.  Prior to the 2007 season, Lumberton fans would have been thankful for a 5-5 record.  Those guys played hard all year but didn't have the breaks go their way.

    They are a young team and should be the pre-season favorite coming into next season.  The L-train will be back!

    Congrads out to Vidor first.Although it was the Raiders game to win.I was there and the raiders dominated but credit to Vidor they played tough inside the red zone  and only allowed 1 td and turned the raiders away from inside the red zone 3 times w/the Raiders only making 1 of 3 short field goals although the 2nd try was a bad snap,3rd try was long enough just 20 yds left of the pole.To many penalties 100 yds first half and a Raider turnover.

    Where and when did the Raiders dominate? I think you missed a great game.  ;D :o
