Lumberton did what should be expected against an inferior team (no disrespect towards HF). I would say the same thing about Lumberton if they were playing Southlake Carroll (ha). I don't know if last night provided any real indication of where Lumberton is right now but I will say that Hughes did show some obvious improvement after last years experience. I think the passing game will definitely be a factor this season. A confident qb at the high school level makes up for a lot of inadequacies at other positions. As for the second/third string comment earlier; I was at the game and although I did see some 2nd/3rd string players coming in late I was actually surprised that so many starters were still playing in the 4th quarter. This definitely was not a case of Lumberton pulling its starters early. They played and gained some valuable experience so I hope noone makes the comment that it would have been worse had the starters stayed in the game. They were in there for most of the trip. Congrats Raiders!
Lumberton was playing JV players before the half was done.

How did Sean Sparks do in the Bridge City scrimmage?
Two sacks and a few good tackles. Missed two possible big TFL's but Im sure it was just jitters. Got pressure on the qb quite a few times as well. Im just ready to see Lumbertons D-line go at it with the high caliber O-line of Dayton. Its gonna be tough in the trenches.

2 of the 3 starters we lost are playing Division 1 football now, do the math. lol
And our next best returner is not playing on the line this year do to a neck injury.
So from what I know, that leaves Senior Joey Swetland (played a good bit last year), Senior Daniel Herman (who also played a good bit), Tight end Ty Choate (started all year), Tight end/Tackle? Caleb Schexnider (started all year). That means there will be atleast 3 new members of the offensive line this year that were on JV last year. One of which is Hunter Howden's (Tulane) little brother, Carter Howden. Last I heard he was playing center.
Doc cleared Hunter Grillo to play. He'll be startin and leading the O-line next year.

Westbrook's O-Line Avg. 6' 5" 280
Westbrook's D-line - Two ends 6' 4" 235, DT's Squat just under 700 lbs!!
Average 6'5'' 280? Doubt it... This isnt the NFL.
-
who was the defensive mvp in 20 4a last year?
Anthony Beard of Lumberton won it last year and has a good chance to repeat that. Sean Sparks at DE for Lumberton could surprise alot of people this year as well. As for offense... Im really not to sure. Bellows is my first pick though.
-
Defense- Lumberton.
Offense- Vidors' Big Ole Boys.
-
I agree. While Silva is a major favorite, I'm interested. They are two big names and Bisping could be one punch away from knocking Silva out.
Thats true. As much as i love Silva's ferocity he throws his punches wildly and keeps his chin exposed often. Remember his most recent fight with Rampage?
-
Silva destroys him in second round.

When has PNG had speed. In port neches is a 4.9 forty considered fast?Vidor..lots of guys returning. Png has some speed you maynot be aware of. Nederland..well i just like them
An what speed does the Raiders have????
Anthony Beard [weighing 230] 4.7. Kyler Keith 4.5 (Junior Olympics competitor). Jesse Sparks 4.6. Sean Sparks [weighing 235] 4.7. Just to name a few. We may not be as fast as Central or Ozen but I dont think those numbers are too bad.

I heard that Rocky McDonald's son may be playing RB at Lumberton, he was the big running back in Southeast Texas in the late 80s, does anyone know if this is true.
Chase McDonald? I havent heard that but Ill look into it for ya. Im pretty sure Asher will be the starter for this next season.
-
Id have to say Central.
-
Lumberton vs PNG. (Png wants some revenge.=)
Lumberton vs. Silsbee. (Rivalry continues.)
-
My Top Four-
Lumberton-Strong D and good coaching.
Central-Plenty of athletes(as always) but not sure with so many players not returning and a new coach. Could workout for them tho. Heard good things bout the new coach.
Vidor- Lots returning
Livingston-Ive only seen em play once but i got a hunch they may bring it this next year.

has anybody heard of this kid in Lumberton named Sean Sparks? I was in lumberton Taco Bell and a bunch of people were goin on and on about him? He is mentioned in Texas football monthly, but not much on stats......maybe a late bloomer?
Apparently a big kid who's put on some size and runs in the 4.7's
Sean is 6'2'', 235. He runs a 4.7 forty and a 4.1 shuttle. He powercleans 315, benches 305, and squats around 450. Incredible pass rusher who will definatley have a breakout season this next year. Explosive, aggressive, powerful, and quick. Watch this kid.
Thanks for that info, Sean.
Ha. This aint Sean. Just one of his good friends who wanted to post his real stats.
-
Lumberton takes it but not by a blowout. Posssible shutout. Lumberton's D looks strong.

Tough one to call but... Im goin with Central on this one. Both teams are good but i think Livingston's lack of a stout D, mixed with Central's ability to make big plays on either side of the ball including special teams, gives the W to Central. Gonna be a fun game to watch tho.
Beaumont Central- 31
Livingston- 17
-
Defense-- Beard-Lumberton
Offense--Hanna/Grogan
Yeah i agree on this one. Both boys are amazing athletes on both sides of the ball. Id love to see two lumberton players take the prize. Dont hurt to dream eh?
BEARD= Beast
Hannah= MACHINE
