  1. Williams is NAIA Player of the Week Tue, March 24 - [baseball] KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Zane Williams of Houston-Victoria (Texas) has been selected as the NAIA Baseball Player of the Week while Craig Westcott of Belhaven (Miss.) was awarded the NAIA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for the week of March 16-22. Williams, a senior rightfielder from Devil's Pocket, Texas, batted .560 in six games last week and hit his second grand slam of the season for UH-Victoria. The highlight of his week came in the 12-2 win over Fisher (Mass.) when he went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, one double, one grand slam and five RBI. He also had a four-hit performance followed by a three-hit, three-RBI effort. For the week, he bashed out 14 hits, including six doubles, one triple and two homers, hit at a 1.120 slugging clip, scored 12 runs and compiled 20 RBI. He ranks 11th in the country with 1.5 RBI per game. The Jaguars went 6-0 during the week and are 20-10 on the season
  2. Deweyville wins 10-0 in 6 innings. Garrett Haney,winning pitcher with 12 k's 1 hit and 0 walks. Seth Williams 2for3 with 2 rbi,Keaton Addison 1for4 with rbi tripple. Hunter manning 3 for 4 with an rbi. Haney went 3for 4 . Kane Katchik 2for4 with 2 rbi.Micheal Williams 2for2.
  3. Deweyville wins 11-9. Seth Williams was the winning pitcher. Eric Avila got the save.
  4. Game Tue night against Sabine Pass will be played at Nederland.
  5. Anyone know the score from last nights game TC vs Vidor? So far all of the #1 teams look fairly close in talent, so if this comes down to pitching depth, I have to give Orange the upper hand.
  6. Orange( 1) defeats TC (2) 22-6. Orange will play winner out of TC (1) and Vidor (2). Tues. @ 8pm.
  7. Does anyone know how a tie breaker would go about?
  8. Deweyville Definitly played well enough to win this game, but several factors in the top of the fifth cost them. They still had thier chance in the six and seven, but Bunas relief pitcher did a good job. From what I've seen Buna is stronger in two areas than other teams in this district, and those are defence and pitching, and fortunate for them, thats what wins ball games! Deweyville has some big sticks throughout the line up, but if you allow an average of 8 or more runs per game it's tough to win.
  9. Buna was everything they were advertized to be and then some. I think Clark was the best pitcher Deweyville has faced so far this year. His offspeed stuff was great, and it made his fast ball look even faster than it was. Buna should do well in the playoffs with pitching like that, and if they keep hitting the ball well.
  10. This game will be decided by pitching and errors, as both teams hit the ball very well.
  11. Deweyville has a good number of long ball hitters, especially for a small school. And they have been playing all 3 and 4 A schools so far with the exception of thier 16-1 victory agaist Warren tues. night. Matt Manning(senior)-2 Garrett Haney(soph) -2 Seth williams(Junior)-1 Keeton Addison(soph)-1 Ronnie Anglin(Junior)-1 A few more have the power, just hasn't happened yet.
  12. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one out here wondering about this problem. So far this season, we have lost 2 games in which we either out numbered the opposing team in hits, or was even in number of hits and got 10 run ruled. In one game our pitcher threw a no-hitter through the first two innings, and we were behind 8-0.In another game the opposing team had 2 hits, and beat us 9-7.From what I can tell, it is a lack of fundamentals, practice and desire. Most coaches today do not want to spend the time to hit 100 ground balls to infielders in practice, because they will not be able to get BATTING PRACTICE in. And the kids are programed to take a couple of ground balls in practice and move on to something else, because most do not have the desire to become better. If they do not get it at home,(which 98% do not) they will never reach a point where they can make routine ground, and fly ball outs, they just do not get enough practice. Parents need to realize this and help thier kids out at home. Just before I came in the house this evening and found this thread, I hit ground balls to my 10 and 15 year olds in the front yard for 1 hour. If every player on our team got this 2-3 times a week, I know we would not be making so many errors.
  13. [Hidden Content] Zane is playing for Southern Arkansas University. You can check out the season stats on the above link, or go to the University web site and check out other stats. Looks like Lamars coach missed out on some great LOCAL talent once again! Zane currently has the third best batting average on the team @ .387
  14. Some good points made by both sides here, but the one that sticks out most is the one saying that Warren is not going to the playoffs because they are not a good team. The fact is Both Warren and Deweyville both beat Orangefield earlier this season, and it looks like Orangefield may be going in the 3a district. This may well be the toughest 2a district overall,as all teams with the exception of Buna had very good ball teams that could have made the playoffs in any other 2a district in Texas. To say that any of these teams were not good, except for Kountze and East Chambers is just crazy talk. I do agree with the officiating problem, it is bad everywhere. Another thing is, how is Kountze or East Chambers not a ranked team?
  15. I haven't seen Deweyville really get blown away this year yet, 25 points I think will be a bit much. I think this will be pretty close till the fourth, and Kountze should pull away with the home court advan. Deweyville will be playing for pride and has nothing to lose here, they will be going for the upset.
  16. Jackson may not be the best, but he has to be the most entertaining. Every game he makes at least one play that makes you go WOW. You could say the same for him as well, he has made an average Deweyville team, into :oone that could have made the play-offs.
  17. This is gonna be a good one. Like was mentioned earlier, if Deweyville can get back on track with the outside shooting they will win a close one at home.
  18. Obviosly E.C fans/students are going to see the way the game was officiated differently. It is not always the fouls that are the problem, There were at least five ocations when the ball was knocked out of bounds right in front of us by EC player and ref gave them the ball back, There was one traveling call agaist EC,I saw at least five more that was so obvios that were not called, and at least three against Deweyville that were called that should not have been. And yes Deweyville could have stepped in front of EC players several times and did not, but after getting run over twice and not getting the proper charge foul, but a blocking foul instead, whats the point? So its not just the 38 foul difference but add another 15 or so calls on top of that and you have a huge margin that no team can overcome. Yes EC is a good team, and I dont know what the outcome would have been if the calls were fair, but it is a shame when the refs interfere with the outcome of ANY game, not to mention it is not fair to these young men who gave everything they had for two hours to be taken away from them by three biased refs. who are supposed to take an oath of fairness? They must have missed that class!
  19. By far the worse officiated game I have ever seen. Most bad games are just some missed/bad calls, but about mid way through this game you just got the feeling that this was not just some bad judgement calls, but some very ONE SIDED calls, or non calls. You had to be there to see just how bad it was. But still an exciting game,as all have been, great hustle tonight by both teams. East Chambers was bigger and better than I expected, I hope they just had a bad night earlier this week agaist Hardin!
  20. I think this District is gonna go down to the last week to determine the champion. Now that Kountze has lost, maybe everyone will not think they are unbeatable, and may be gunning for them? I think either of four teams could walk away district champs, Hardin, Kountze, Deweyville or East Chambers. Warren has a real shot at making the top three if they stay healthy. As far as that goes any of these teams depend on that one player to give them an extra edge. My prediction if Deweyville gets Bland back, and everyone else's top gun stays healthy is 1. Hardin 2. East Chambers 3. Three way tie for third Deweyville, Kountze, and Warren To comment on the fouling issue. Hard fouls are necessary at times, but the rule of thumb is to ALWAYS go for the ball, it is nuetral and can be challenged for at any time.
