  1. Looks like the 4 teams in 24 2a will stay un-defeated for another week.
  2. Second string O comes in for EC ;;;they score! 49-0 now.
  3. Deweyville up 42-6 @ half!!!!! This district is really shaping up to be a battle to the end.
  4. East Chambers capitalizes on turn-overs and two onside kicks.
  5. 20-0 East Chambers leads 4 minites til half; EC has ball, driving.
  6. Seems every district has one key match-up. I think Vidor may surprize some teams this year. As far as 24 2a BUNA-EAST CHAMBERS hands down. This is gonna be the game to see, speaking of which, does anyone know where they play?
  7. To clear up a few things taken out of context. I never said Orang field was scared of playing Deweyville. I made a broad statement that 3a schools do not want to show weakness by playing 2a teams in preseason, unless it is a scrimage type game. For instance does anyone look at Hampsire Fannett in the same way after a pretty good loss to East Chambers last week. It's really a lose-lose situation for the 3a team, cause if they win everyone says you just beat a 2a school, and if they lose, they drop in respect, especially in their own district. And as far as Deweyville scheduling a preseason game with Newton or Hemphill, no way; who do you think we would face in the first round of play-offs?
  8. This is the team I played against in 86, And Steve Lofton was their running back. He was extremely fast, but we had one faster. Kenneth Bean from Deweyville ran him down from behind when he broke one up the middle. And I do mean from behind, no angle.
  9. Newton was in this district two years ago, and won state.
  10. East Chamber by 12, too much offence for HJ.
  11. WHAT? this district is weak? Have you checked the records of this disrtict ? As far play-offs; East Chambers lost a pretty close game to Mart last year who won state. And sure Buna lost big to Newton, but so did everyone else last year.Overall I see this 2a district along with the 2a district just to the north of us as 2 of the best in state from top to bottom. As far as this game, Buna's offence is too much for HD (Buna 52 HD 6)
  12. Some interesting thoughts on this board, and like I said earlier, Orangefield would have been a good preseason choice, and now I read that it was scheduled, and they backed out. That does not surprize me, for the fact that some 3a schools might not want to show weakness in pre-season by loosing to a smaller school. You have to remember that these games must be agreed upon by BOTH teams. And to respond to the earlier statement about there being some 2a schools not in this district close by, the only two I can think of would be Shelbyville, who is picked last in their district by everyone ,and maybe San Augustine, who I really know nothing about, because as far as I know Deweyville has never played them. Dont really think that these two would be a great help to them either way. Deweyville's defence shuts down a weaker Burkville team this week: I predict. 42-0
  13. I said they would COMPETE for district champs. Take my word, this is gonna be a different deweyville team than you played last year. This team was not focused as a team last year, and never played to their potential for a full game in district.
  14. Alto seems to always put together a top rate football team. We played them back in 86 in bi-district, they were big and fast then, and ranked #1 in state 2a. We played them to a 0-0 tie until 2:42 left in the fourth, when they kicked a 42 yard field goal to beat us 3-0. Does anyone know how many state championships they have.
  15. Pre-season schedules are made as tune-up games before the ones that count are played. I think there are two ways to look at these games, and I think who ever made this schedule looks at it as a way to build a smaller 2a team getting some confidence by some early wins. I don't think playing bigger 3a schools, which means better competition, and larger, stronger players would do much for confidence building, and getting players hurt at this point, is really POINT- LESS as well. I would like to have seen a game against Orange field or Hardin Jeff thrown in, just to see where we stand against teams similar to our district, but that may be why they threw the Vinton game in. I've seen last years team as well as this year play and I have to say I think that this years team is as good, maybe better in some ways, like defense. And I can definately tell this years team plays with much more intencity and pride than last year, that in it self goes a long way. As far as Burkeville, well, I think they feel like they have to come close to matching the Buna game, so anything by 40 points should do.I say 42-0 Deweyville ;D
  16. I had the privalage of coaching this group this summer, and I can tell you they will compete for district champs this year and for a couple of years to come. This group of young men have been playing together for many years, and as for pitching, they are as good as anyone in district, and definately deeper, with three sophmores moving up,a few juniors and a senior to lead the bunch. They will be young with only a few seniors, but a very experienced group .Out of the nine main starters this summer , I had one hit over 600, one just under 500 and two others over 400,with the other 5 between 250 and 380. That is actual batting ave's, on a fourteen game schedule, agaist some good two and three A schools. Cant wait till spring!
  17. Ok Keaton, show me! ; ;D I hope you can run in hip boots.
  18. There was a post somewhere on this site about a change in the way UIL puts districts together, and it would fix this problem by putting smaller schools in the same class in the same district. The down side is much longer travel for away games.
