Vidor kids never won a WRS award. The media pissed on the credibility of the WRS award to create a feel good story. A slap in the face to that super WOS defense and powerhouse Nederland offense. The WRS award is for kids with the potential to be the next Jamal Charles or Earl Thomas. What's next? A High Island kid wins because daddy caught a fish at the beach. This is not this kids fault, the media should find the nearest dumpster and jump in. They ruined a tradition.
I always thought that the WRS award was for the best high school player that represents the ideals of Coach Willie Ray Smith of excellent play, hard work, dedication, and leadership, not  just for the player who has the most college offers or the best stats.  If that is the case, there doesn't need to be a media vote, just plug the numbers into a spreadsheet and pop out the winners.

Also, I did not realize that the WRS award was for the players with the greatest potential to play in the NFL. Which area high school football player did you see play last fall with the "potential to be the next Jamaal Charles or Earl Thomas"?
  2. I disagree that there has been no improvement in three years.  Lamar has improved, although not by a great margin.

Lamar needs consistency by playing well for two halves.  In several of the games this season, Lamar played either a good first half or a good second half.  For example, Lamar played pretty well in the first half against Sam Houston but let the game get away in the second half.  They played poorly in the first half against Central Ark but outscored them in the second half.

The areas that Lamar must improve are consistency, special teams, and cut down on the turnovers.

Lamar has a great opportunity to end the season on a positive note by beating McNeese.

I hope they do too PirateGirl. I'm not accusing, I just think it would be a perfect way to emotionally fire up a team just a little bit more on game day. What's sad is that Nederland kids are already going to be viewed as guilty by the general public even if they didn't do it. I would bet my life that it wasn't anyone on the team though.

And BigRed, the line in my opinion would probably be -3 or -4 for Nederland. Strength of schedule being the primary reason for adding the extra couple of points. O/U estimate would probably be 38.
I'm sorry GoDogs I couldn't resist on a few posts back you posted it was probably someone from Vidor or the Coaching staff..and now you post your not accusing......I don't even know what to say to that.
If you read my post I said that I have a suspicion this was not done by Nederland. A suspicion and an accusation are different to me. Maybe I'm wrong on the definitions of each. Sorry if I mis-worded things.

Whoever did this need some of that Old Time Kountze cheerleaders' religion.

EC looks sluggish.  12-0 at the half EC must have 125 yards in penalties. Refs are terrible.  They have to stop and talk to everyone after every play.
The calls made by the refs were not necessarily bad, but it was excrutiating after almost every flag, the refs huddled up with lots of talking and pointing, then run over to the EC coach to explain the call, then run over to give the HF coach an explanation, then run to huddle up again with more pointing before finally marking off the penalty or waving off the flag.  By the way, I use the word "run" very loosely.

I wondered if there were some NFL officials in attendance scouting for replacements for the replacement refs.

Hate to sound like a whiner. I've worked for 1.40 /hr,but $125,000 wont pay for their travel expenses. Which leads to another beef of mine. Go to Dayton and win then you get to travel to NC and play them in a 'home' game while NC gets to hang round their home court for 3 days and get ready. Why not make LU  or Vermont wear ankle weights during the game too. Hey I am the eternal optimist, stay till the bitter end, hope against hope kind of guy. It will be a historical win comparable to the shot by Laetner?sp and the win by NC state if they(LU or Vt.) beat NC.
Wow!!! Travel costs more than $125,000??  Is BISD scheduling this trip???

What a slap in the face to Lamar.
I don't think Lamar or Pat Knight look at a first round game as a slap to the face.  The Southland Conference gets $250,000 for a first round game.  If Lamar beats Vermont and plays NC in a second round game, the Southland gets another $250,000 which they split with Lamar.  So if Lamar beats Vermont, they will get $125,000 that they would not have gotten as a 14 or 15 one and done seed.

This topic was brought up from the State Tourney games today wich were lower classifications.  We called them 'not real'.  Thoughts?
"Yates '6"7 senior Clyde Santee finished the game with just 8 points going 1 for 16 from the field.
Grayford's Zack Tabor had a game and tournament high 43 points. Zack was 19-23 from the free throw line and also grabbed 15 rebounds."

Now which one of these were playing "Real" basketball???

Congrats to the Longhorns for fighting back in district and now taking Cleveland. Good luck in your first play-off run since 2000!

I keep reading that HF boys basketball have not made the playoffs since 2000.  However, I recall that they made the playoffs in 2002, Jeff Kenner's last year as HF coach.  I remember they won two games then lost to Kountze.  Am I dreaming this?

hjhawks is correct and BLUEDOVE3 is ----well -----not very well informed  ::) .

Several years back the Texas State Legislature made it a crime for a student, regardless of age, and an employee of a school district to have an inappropriate relationship. It is NOT simply a "school policy".

Hopefully DeCello wasn't getting "legal advice" from BLUEDOVE3.

Apparently DeCello didn't know the law either.  However, his "inappropriate behavior" probably wasn't criminal, just an overblown ego of stupidity.
Your trying to read too much into what I am saying. It could be a slap on the wrist, nothing criminal and no jail time. Could be a misdemeanor charge. We don't know the facts.
I agree with you.  From what has been reported by the media, nothing criminal occurred.  So his resignation from H-F and being reported to TEA may be his only punishment.

  12. The University Interscholastic League (UIL) requires high school coaches and assistant coaches to be full-time employees of the district. For a noncertified employee, that is defined as working at least 15 hours per week. Certified employees must work at least 20 hours per week and be under contract to the school board for the whole scholastic or calendar year for coaching

Is there a coach "Nate" for any BMT area highschool ???
"Nate's" phone call to ESPN radio was a classic!
give us some background.... what was the call about.
A guy using the name “Nate” called ESPN radio 97.5 in Houston to criticize Rashard Mendenhall and his tweets about the killing of bin Laden.  “Nate” went on to say that he was a high school football coach in Beaumont and to motivate his players, he was printing t-shirts with a picture of bin Laden’s “dead face” for his players to wear under their jerseys during games this fall.  “Nate” said that if players refused to wear these shirts, they would be kicked off the team.  He also said he was getting approval from his athletic director to print these shirts.

A couple of other callers from Beaumont questioned whether “Nate” was legitimate and doubted BISD would approve these shirts.  “Nate” continued his claim that he is a Beaumont high school coach and that his shirt idea would be approved by the AD.

The ESPN guys were so amazed with “Nate’s” phone call, they kept him on the air for almost 20 minutes.  At the end of the conservation, “Nate” asked for some free tickets that the radio station was giving away.

So, if your name is Nate and you coach football in or around Beaumont, you might be getting some strange looks.
