  1. Love the sarcasm, but this is actually pretty accurate.

Newton had better win by 40.... they're state finalists from last year taking on a team playing their second game with a totally new offense.  Nothing for Newton to worry about in Bridge City.  This'll be a cake-walk for the Eagles.  Too bad they still have to drive all of the way down here to actually play the game.

If you don't believe, you don't belong.

  2. 3 glory years?? You've got to be joking. Lmao... Since 2000, Kirbyville has only had one losing season...and they made it to the playoffs that year with a 2-8 record. Lol.. (which btw was the year after the entire organization was totally dismantled) They've only missed the playoffs once in that span too and they went 6-4 that year (which is their worst record aside from the 2-8). Thrown in the mix were 2 state game appearances, as well as more wins over Newton than Newton had over us during that span. The BC win over Kirbyville WAS an upset in every sense of the word. I feel like Newton is better this year, but don't take anything away from Kirbyville by spouting nonsense.

I didn't ask for a summary of the program lol. Making the playoffs and a winning record year in and year out is not hard to do if it's a descent program. And the three years kville beat Newton and had 2 state appearances, they were really good! So like I said, three glory years. And that's what everybody thinks and remembers of Kirbyville. Now, they are a good competitive team, but it definitely should not be considered as an upset with BC winning. Just a win.

  3. What positions?

Newton will have the their two starting corners back this game. One of them is our starting receiver as well and the other one is our number 3 running back. Kirkland Foster and JD Spikes! Kirkland suited up against tatum but played less than 5 snaps and JD Spikes did not play any. They are two big time players.

  4. BC will be put back into reality friday night. They should not be calling that win against Kirbyville an upset! It was a good quality win! I feel like people are riding off of their 3 glory years... Now, I do hope success for both teams, but don't let a win over kirbyville make you think crazy. They are NO WHERE close to Newtons level this season. Being said, there will be a 4 TD spread. If I am wrong, come bash me on it!

  5. I am glad to see BC win against a good team, but I do not think think that this weak will be near as close. I am not knocking on Kirbyville, but they are nowhere close to Newtons level this year. I am not saying that just because the scrimmage or a win over Tatum; it's because this team is a lot different from previous Newton teams. Newton has two division 1 seniors that looked like they were men playing with boys last Friday and the whole team was on key! Newton will win by 21+ this Friday! I hope to see BC have a good year and make some noise though.

  6. This is a great first game for both teams. Both teams will be better than last season. If Tatum fans think Newton will start out slow like they do every season, then it's going to be a long night. I dont think anyone can really predict this game. Of course I want to say Newton, but realistically, this game can go either way. Same caliber of athletes on the field! Newton will be much better offensively and defensively than last year. I'm excited about seeing what Tatum has. It's always fun to watch them.

  7. One week from today, the Newton Eagles will face off with Tatum for the first game of the season. I was there for last years game and it was not pretty by any means. Newton was full of athletes last year as they are every year, but the problem in week one was that there was so many young players playing in positions that they have never played. The guys most definitely had the talent, they just were not familiar with the position. As the year went along, they started playing the positions tremendously better. Now, the plus about this season is that every position is filled with guys that have played the position before and will know it well going into week one. Our offense will be exceptionally better with coach Barbay back in Newton calling the plays and with his son being the quarter back. His son knows the playbook like the back of his hand and was the starting QB for Coldsprings last season. Having them two gives Newton's offense a huge plus from last years offense. Now, I know Newton lost Ronny Elam and Calum Foster on defense last year, but the overall defense will be a lot better. Newton will have another division 1 safety this season. The Linebacker core will be way better than last season with the guys having a whole year under their belt... We all know what Tatum brings to the table, but we will see a week 10 Newton team in week 0 for the first time in many years. That being said, this game will be a hard fought out game.
