  1. For Jasper, probably Phil Hennigan. Pitched no-hitter at state in 1963. 1964 record was 18-3. He was a totally dominating pitcher, and pitched 5 years for Cleveland Indians. There were several good pitchers at Jasper over the years, but never one who so thoroughly dominated the opposition AND took the team to the state tournament as did Hennigan. Oh yes, he had a 1-0 victory over Nolan Ryan in 1963. Also, at the time at least, was the youngest pitcher to ever win a game at state, winning over LaMesa as a 15 year old freshman in 1961.
  2. You are welcome ALLABOUTSTAT. For those who questioned when Bridge City and Jasper first played, here is the football 1962 schedule results for football. Therefore, logically in the Spring of 63 was when they would have first played in baseball, in district at least. They well may have played earlier in a tournament or pre-season but I am not aware of it if they did. So you see, if I tell you a chicken dips snuff, you can just check under the chicken's wings for the snuff can. ;D Bridge City Cardinals 1962 High School Football Scores DATE OPPONENT LOCATION SCORE BC - THEM Sept. 7 Bridge City vs. West Orange * Bridge City Wins * HOME 20-06 Sept. 14 Bridge City vs. Little Cypress * Bridge City Wins * HOME 07-06 Sept. 21 Bridge City vs. Sour Lake * TIE GAME * AWAY 06-06 Sept. 28 Bridge City vs. SFA * Bridge City Wins * HOME 21-06 Oct. 5 OPEN DATE Oct. 12 Bridge City vs. Woodville * Bridge City Wins * AWAY 20-12 Oct. 19 Bridge City vs. Vidor * Bridge City Wins * HOME 15-06 Oct. 26 Bridge City vs. Orange * Orange Wins * AWAY 00-41 Nov. 2 Bridge City vs. Jasper * Bridge City Wins * HOME 34-06 Nov. 9 Bridge City vs. Silsbee * Silsbee Wins * AWAY 06-31 Nov. 16 Bridge City vs. Nederland * Nederland Wins * AWAY 13-30

  4. Here is BC's football record from 1961, FROM BC's VERY OWN WEB-SITE. If you don't think BC was playing 2a ball then, you apparently do not know anything about the other teams at that time. 5. you are correct. they were either AA, or 2A. Take your pick. Makes no difference to me. In football, those were the years just prior to a little guy name Worster arriving at BC high school.
  6. That is kind of funny that Jasper could not have hung with BC 2 or 3 years ago. Ya'll remember a little team named Columbus? Took BC out in a one game series. The next week Jasper ten-run ruled Columbus twice, batting around in one inning after two outs. Yeah, kind of funny that Jasper could not have hung with BC. Well, we will never know because BC could not even handle a huge underdog named Columbus. But Jasper handled them. And as for hanging with the BC team last year, Jasper did take out the team this year by 14-4 that BC lost to in the Semi's last year.
  7. Then if you have a BC annual from when you were 13 or 14, check it out. I venture to guess that the sports records show BC to be in a AA district.
  8. Well, maybe there is somebody better, but I sure do want to see him if there is.
  9. You are just guessing. How old were you in 1963?
  10. In 1963 ?
  11. "Never" is a mighty big statement.
  12. Want to bet ??? What were they in before they moved up to the "old" 3a back in 1963? Class A? Class B? If not those, that leaves only Class 2A, or 4a. Check this out. I would not take such easy money.
  13. Yes, Jasper and Newton played in the early sixties and before. But that was before Newton became a power house. Silsbee is the rivalry! been playing each other since dirt was created.
  14. I do have a personal database in my head. If you doubt the correctness, check it out. You will see that I am right.
  15. Yes, Parsons was the State All Tournament pitcher. Cannot overlook anyone who has won a game at state. So also add Aaron Stephenson.
  16. hey, i heer hes did it bfore ! ;D
  17. Yeah! Brooks is recruiting. You can put on those pads! ;D
  18. Please tell us if there is narration this time. Thanks.
  19. The last time Jasper went 2-8 they rebounded to the outright district championship the next year. Now winning the championship this year would be a GIANT step, but finishing in the top 3 to make the playoffs, not so big a climb.
  20. Congratulations from the Jasper crowd.
  21. Thanks for the heads up. That is enough to make one reconsider. Before I order I will definitely check that out for this year.
  22. Jasper proved size does not matter at the state tournament. Physically, they appeared by far to have the the smallest athletes of any of the four 3a teams. From the looks of some of the teams you would have thought they were playing a college or professional team. The LE shortstop was 6-4 for goodness sakes. And the pitcher they started against Jasper appeared to be almost as tall. Yet we now know what the Dogs did with their little guys. However, it is a fact of life that there is a prejudice against the smaller players. >
  23. I know how you feel. I used to think three teams were too many, until Jasper finished third in district, then made it to the state finals. ;D Now, I don't care. After the first round most of the weak teams are gone anyway. And by the end of the second round, if they are still around maybe they deserve to be there.
  24. Yes, congratulations. Now, they will probably make you room-mates! ;D
