jasper and bridge city started playing baseball against each other in 1963 - IN DISTRICT. That was the year BC moved up from 2a. Amazingly, Jasper lost its first four game in district, while BC won its first four games. Most everyone thought Jasper had no chance at district. Even more amazingly, BC started losing games, and Jasper won the district again, and made it back to state for the second time.

Wish you could have been at Round Rock. Jasper did go completely nuts. ;D That final game was one special night! You may not know this, but Coach Mixon's father played on the Jasper team that went to state in 63. Shawn and his kids just finished the job they did not get done then. By the way, I ran into Coach Brack after the LE game. He played on the 61 team that went to state. I think he was as excited for these kids as he could have been if he had been on the field himself.

You may not know this, but Jasper was a baseball town long before it became a dominant football town. Jasper's first four years in the old 3a beginning in 1961, they "owned" the district title, and everything short of regional. Twice they advanced to state, and in the other two years lost the third game of the regional finals to be denied trips to state. And of course, that was when only one team advanced out of district. So Jasper is VERY comfortable being a baseball town. You have to do SOMETHING in the spring. Now we are going to turn our attention to developing our basketball program. ;D

That is a good start, but in all seriousness, I would move BC up to #2, and probably Carthage up to #3 (even though I did not see them play). Just basing that on their record until they ran into a 21-3a representative. ;D I would concur with the others but drop AW maybe down to about 8 or 9. Just opinions, but some guys (not from Jasper) said AW probably would not have made the playoffs from 21-3a this year.

Jasper, number one team in talent? No way. But number one in the TEAM concept, maybe yes. Certainly way up on the list.

there are no easy teams left. besides, i think it is best to play the best. the team will not be tempted to let down.

Jasper seems to be focused on the big goal. I hope this is the year they bring home the prize. Regardless, I will be there to cheer them on.

We have to get by tomorrow first, something Jasper has not been able to do in five tries. The players better not have been reading their press clippings or they will join the other very good Jasper teams that got bumped out at this stage.

I said the instant that the umpire called the third out at third that somehow that play would be disected ad nauseum by BC fans, if they can be called true "fans". If there are any "lessons" the coach and players need to learn from what happened, they can work on that in private next year. The truth is that the BC team had a great year, the BC coach did a superb job, and both team and coach should be congratulated and praised, not criticized.

Well, if we go by "turns", I think it is Jasper's turn to win it all. ;D They have had their chances over the years, but always have run into a speed bump at this level. We need all the omens we can get. Here's hoping that Wylie will be looking past us to the finals. Anyway, they have had their names written into the state tournament record books along the way. Had the youngest pitcher to ever win a game at state (15), had the first pitcher to pitch a no hitter and lose the game, made the first triple play in the history of the tournament, and are tied with everybody for the most outs in an inning. ;D

Yes, great season Cards. You take it for granted to do well because of past successes. But you did well only because of hard work THIS YEAR.

Semantics. Gee. I did not say the ones who lost games would be champions. I said they would be winners for being there. You appeared to disagree. If they are not winners, they are losers are they not? I prefer to think they will be winners. Which they are, and will be.

Looks like that is Coach Mixon. Other coaches did fantastic jobs, but taking 4 out of 5 games from a top level team like BC was something else. Frankly, I thought the odds were against his doing that. and Go Dogs!
