I only know one of the candidates and yes he’s at a successful 6A. Unsure who the 2nd one is or where he’s coming from.

Splitting the role would immediately reduce the pool of applicants. There is a reason Head football coaches are typically combined with the AD role or Campus Coordinator role (Multi Middle and High School districts). It is the largest program and has the most moving parts. Splitting this would result in a noticeable pay cut and also probably put them back in the classroom. With as many things a HC has to account for and accomplish this would not be an attractive proposition. Now I am sure someone would still take the job. Also given the lack of production at Tarkington I get the idea but doing so would be the end of any hope of a competitive football program. Maybe some of Tarkington has given up hope already.

A coordinator from Willis applied last time it was open and didn't even get a interview. All he did was help guide Willis to a 40-10 record over the last 4 seasons.

Before Barbers Hill and Huffman came in it was Madisonville. Coldspring, Cleveland, and Madisonville were the ones making it out then.

Miss the good ole days of Coldspring, Shepherd, Splendora, Cleveland, Tarkington, and Liberty all being 3A and in the same District.

They have had longevity of a head coach which is very beneficial. Also they have had some talent come through. Facilities have taken a big step forward as well.
-
I’ve always remembered that Tarkington didn’t have horrible athletes. Their facilities were among the worst and the ones that were worse have since upgraded. Seemed like a nice school to go to. The area seems like a decent place to raise a family. Not sure why they won’t take the necessary steps to improve. The only candidate I know that has applied is definitely thinking of it as a place long term but I’m sure a lot of coaches that take that job came with the same expectations.

The right few neighborhoods, and the right type of kids moving in can completely change what the district looks like athletically. It also can change the enthusiasm and willingness to vote for bonds.
-
Is there any new growth coming out that way?

Well at least not as an AD..... Football was a little bit different of a story.

Retired. His 2 sons are coaching now. Oldest was a finalist for the CP job (he was the DC there) now he is going to be DC at Atascocita. Other son was at Dayton last I heard. Stan did not do a bad job at all during his time there.

An assistant from a very successful nearby 6A school applied. Has ties to the area.

I’ll tell you right now one guy that has been a huge part of Coach Miller’s success at Spring and Willis is Coach Fitzgerald OC/OL/AHC. Lots of wins and he knows Miller’s offense! He’d be a great hire
