Actually, I think they lost all (or almost all) of their district games in 4AD1 last time, then went on a tear their first year in 5A (2016). They crashed back to earth for 2017, if my memory is correct. Maybe somebody from over there can clear that up.

I agree... anything less than domination by Lumberton will be seen as a letdown. Splendora always seems to underperform for their size, Livingston is either going to be champs or miss the playoffs... lots of inconsistency up there... but you know that. I'm anxious to see if Dubois can get BC back on track after a disastrous 2017 season. All jokes aside, I predict fantastic band performances and lackluster football to be the main characteristics of this district.

While most of us recognize the value of choosing to play a good program like Newton in the buildup to district play, not everybody feels that way. If you are a coach with big aspirations of moving on in your coaching career, it’s hard to do much with a bad winning percentage. Locking yourself into 2-3 guaranteed Ls each year isn’t a good way to get a better paying gig. Plus, a big school playing Newton is kinda like picking a fight in a gay bar. You can’t brag if you win, but you’d better not lose.

But you have to be careful... lotta jags sounding like greenies from a few years back. It IS sad that pretty much all of Beaumont’s history is kinda like PA’s.... no more TJ, Lincoln, SFA, Central, Ozen, French, South Park, Central, Ozen, etc.... I know it’s progress, but it’s still a little depressing. The right thing to happen, but depressing none the less. Bright future though... there’s no bigger stage than 6A

I talked with someone today who absolutely knows the ropes over there. PNG absolutely has plans in place for kids who are able to graduate in December.

Meh.... he doesn’t have a problem being here 24-7 singing lil bro’s praises. A few years ago kids wouldn’t have dreamed of leaving their teammates behind for a new team for their senior year. It’s a changed world we live in. Everybody is ok with “taking their talents to Miami” or wherever. It’s no knock on the kid if he pulls out. It’s just the way things are these days.

BC and OF kids play baseball together in BC Little League. BC plays against OF in STJFL. The schools are literally like five miles apart. Competition between the groups only stops when the kids get to junior high and only for football. The Bayou Bowl featured a trophy and banquet during the week of the game. I know the game had gotten rowdy in the last year or two it was played, but I think it’s time to crank it back up.

We need to bust up Orangefield every fall.... they won’t have it. RIP Bayou Bowl.
