  1. If you care to re-read, I didn't brand any person a racist. I discussed racist statements. I feel bad that we live in a society where people saying "a person of color should get that job" is ok, but saying "a white person should get that job" is a racial atrocity. Or saying "Blacks don't make good QBs" is racist, but saying "a team can't win unless they have black players" is justified. The statements are the same. It might be rare to find an all-white team that wins on occasion, but it's not hard at all to find hundreds of diverse teams that lose all of the time. That kinda invalidates the whole "you gotta have black athletes to win" argument.
  2. Here's the irony and the sad shape of the country that we live in.... Posters say that "you can't win without black athletes"... but that is a racist statement. The fact that the poster doesn't even realize how racist and marginalizing his statement is indicates a very small-minded approach to a very big world with a lot of complex ideas. The posters have no problem, however, recognizing implied racism in a statement about building low income housing to attract better athletes. "They" must mean minorties, and therefore the statement is racist, according to the simple-minded. If you have a problem with the insinuation that building low income housing will attract minorties, then you should also have a problem with the statement about needing black athletes to win in SETX. I think the argument about "needing black athletes to win" is just as stupid as saying "black athletes don't make good QBs..." To further illustrate this point, the Silsbee coaching thread should be mentioned. A poster mentioned how he felt the next coach should be a "person of color." That, in and of itself, is just as racist of a statement as somebody saying they "really need to hire another white guy." However, the small-minded racist will justify one statement at the detriment of the other because of his own personal beliefs... at the end of the day, both statements are racist. They really need to hire the person that is going to be the best at properly motivating the kids to win the most games possible.... whether he or she is white, black, or spotted.
  3. Don't tell anybody, but we have a plan, too. They're building another new low income apartment complex in BC and there's a new low to mid housing project being proposed. If you build it, "they" will come, lol.
  4. It doesn't take a genius to figure out it's bad business to spend 20 million or so dollars on facilites so that a dozen athletic kids get a scholarship. Want to go to college for free? Check out the GI Bill. The Army could always use some athletes. No way out my you-know-what.
  5. They pitched a bond issue last year in BC that was soundly defeated by the voters. Needless to say, we still didn't have a PA system at the football stadium this season. Beaumont ISD has the superb setup in these parts. How's that working out for them?
  6. Does that mean Winters won't be transferring to BC?
  7. Most of the Kountze posters hang out in the basketball forums. Kountze hasn't had a lot of success over the years, which is even more disappointing considering that they had D1 Baylor commit Grayland Arnold. They support Jesus, not necessarily the football team.
  8. I think we'll be ready. Don't forget about Huffman. And you really shouldn't sleep on Livingston. Or Cleveland, for that matter. We're the smallest school in our district, but you'll never know it once the season starts. The goal is the district championship, and Navasota joining 10-4A-D1 will only make the title that much more special. We've got WOS in Week 2, and you guys in Week 4.
  9. That week 11 matchup ought to be a barn-burner.
  10. I just read through your pre-district.... Not too shabby.
  11. Kinda strange that we're playing in BC again this year. I'm not gonna let that get me down.
  12. It's hard to pick a "top 3." I don't think we're behind Huffman at all. I'd be surprised if LCM isn't playing up to their potential this year, too. If this is one of Livingston's "good" years, they'll be a force. And I hate to count Cleveland out of beating a few people and finishing in the fourth spot. A lot of people don't realize that Livingston and Cleveland go WAY back as a rivalry... That's a good game by itself. I'm not gonna lie... I think 10-4A D1 is the most exciting district in the area.
  13. You might ought to think about changing out that profile pic..... kinda living in the past these days.
  14. I don't know if anybody runs the table in this district... I wouldn't bet on Navasota going undefeated. I'll bet that Silsbee and Huffman are looking forward to their matchup with the Rattlers, just like we are.
  15. Everybody in our district played weak defense.... it was crazy. It's not obvious where our improvements on that side of the ball will come from. Prediction? We're going to win the district. That's why we're putting the hard work in now. We're going to play better ball than we did last year. Our core group on offense will be seniors, and we expect them to do a better job of executing the system. Some kids will have to really step up on the defensive side.... if that happens, we'll give anybody in the district fits. We need to hit the playoffs with a 1 or 2 seed. Our tradition of getting bounced in the first round ends this year. BC is going to hurt feelings in 2016. I hope you guys have things turned around for this season, too....
  16. Road trips. That's what they have coming up. Lots of highway miles. How are y'all looking going into next year? Another rebuilding year? Just looking at the teams you have to expect Silsbee, Navasota, BC, HH, and LCM to be playoff-quality in most years. Livingston is an up and down program, and Cleveland won't miss the playoffs every year. There's really not a perrenial dog in the bunch. I predict that there's going to be a really good team (or two) that don't even make the playoffs.
  17. The entire O line is coming back (bigger and better), plus the horse RB from last year. Most of the defensive line will return as well... The defense is going to decide how we do this year. How well the LBs and secondary progress is gonna be key. The defense struggled through district play last year, and our middle linebacker and heavy hitter safety are both graduating. The QB is graduating, but his little brother took all of the JV snaps this year and will start as a junior next year. He's the coach's younger son and has been playing in our system for years. We don't expect a letdown at QB, despite the change. We're excited and expecting big things from the team this year. This is the second offseason under Dubois' program, and we think if they continue to improve we'll play better ball then we did last year. One thing's for sure... we'll know a lot more about it after we play you guys and WOS.
  18. Week Four!!!! Are you ready, Newton fan? [Hidden Content]
  19. The results of splitting classifications are getting ridiculous. Navasota in the same district as BC and LCM? We'll have to drive past a ton of quality opponents to be able to play our "district games." But you have to admit, we play in one heck of a good district. HH, LCM, Silsbee, BC, Navasota, are usually good programs. If Livingston gets back on track you have six teams that would be a legitimate playoff quality teams in most districts.
  20. This has to be the biggest Colmesneil thread evah.
  21. "Y'all might have embarassed us and also won a state championship, but our quarterback can run faster..."
  22. All of this is speculation because we don't know which one of these QBs would have found a way to win if they had actually faced off in 2015. JD is the obvious choice.
  23. So Dontre deserves the trophy because the Silsbee defense stunk? Nice. How many games was JD unable to win? One. How many games was DT unable to win? Three. Who led their team to the State Championship? JD. I actually went to Silsbee's homecoming... I was there when Silsbee dropped that game to Huffman. JD's season didn't have a "Huffman game." The ONLY offensive starter that returned this year and then led his team to a State Championship. That's a stud QB. Sorry if maybe he doesn't run as fast as DT or jump as high as DT whatever, but there's no doubt that JD is the clear winner in this category. Now, if they had a "who got the most boneheaded unsportsmanlike conduct penalties award," we all agree that Silsbee would be the undisputed champion.
