  1. I was on the Buna sideline, first half. Here are my top observations:

    1. During Kountze school song, the head official was humming the tune - whether he was a KHS guy or his former high school had the same tune or he just liked the melody, he wasn't running a crew of HOMERS...The officials did not cheat.

    2. Buna's defensive line was out of control. The linebackers were getting some great licks on Kountze running backs because the line plugged every gap and broke through on every sweep play (in the first half, disregard comments on Lions first drive of second half)

    3. On the officiating, spotting the ball....probably the easiest thing to do, would take a minute after some of the penalties. Some of the penalities were thrown out of position. I believe the explanation on the pass interference in the end zone was "you ran into his inside shoulder and turned him" - last time I checked both players have the right to the ball. and then the call out of bounds on the 11 yard-line. I don't see how you can make that call from 30 yards back...but that is human error, Kountze had plenty of time and a few plays to punch it in and almost threw a pick...settled for 3

If you were on the Buna sideline, you may have seen me put my TV camera down and throw everything inside my pockets on the ground because I felt like I had to join the "laundry tossing" party at the game. It was really hard to watch. There was no home cooking though, so throw those accusations out the door.

    Congrats to the Coogs.

Everyone in this district is starting to notice that everytime you go to Buna to play any type of game, this is becoming the norm that you'd better be ready to play the team along with extra's called ref's are umpires. I'm not from Kountze but seen the touchdown that was taken away from yhe kids at Kountze, displayed on KFDM sports as they repetively played it and making coments about the bad call. I think that it's time infractions of this nature be handled by the UIL, no matter what school is involved. Bad calls on their opponents are becoming comon practice at Buna.
  2. I have to agree with strosfan, both have good teams; but this young Kountze locomotive seems to have set a pace thats going to be difficult to derail anytime soon. I think if Hemphill has any chance they must win the first game and it may well go that way, with Kountze taking the last two Saturday. Kountze in threeeeeeeeee!

  3. Final/comments

Way to go Kountze Lions. It looks as though your hard work and good play just might pay off after all. I took in their last couple of games because of all the ruccus a few buna players were giving a certain Kountze player in past post (24-2a guns). Well believe me troopers the kid in question, started and finished each game, and is an asset to this Kountze Varsity squad. It looks as though The Kountze team has started to jell just at the right time. Good luck to the Kountze Lions in your last 2 games of regular season play and then onward.

  4. Oh come on 'BigDog.'  Surely you can't be serious!!  Let's examine this a little bit here.  The MID-COUNTY CHRONICLE - do you think they would report another game OVER Nederland or Port Neches?  Or not mention them at all?  Nope.  The ORANGE LEADER - do you think they would report another game OVER West Orange, Orange or LC-M?  Nope.  The PORT ARTHUR NEWS - do you think they would report any other game OVER a Memorial game?  Nope.  If the 'BEAUMONT ENTERPRISE' is not going to spotlight the Beaumont teams then they should change their name to the SOUTHEAST TEXAS ENTERPRISE.  Let's be fair here you guys!

The Enterprise has more on it's mind than just Beaumont. They know Beaumonters are going to buy the paper, but to get the sales outside of Beaumont they must treat them on an equal basis and sometimes with a little more enthusiasm. If you would check the sales of Newspapers competing for subscribership in different towns around the area, you would find that the Enterprise outsales each paper in each location.

  5. I'm also curious about Lumberton's 0-9 record?

I hav'nt gotten around to Lumberton too much this year, for I was told beforehand they would be rebuilding from the ground up. They may well be the youngest squad in district and for sure they have their share of problems. Hopefully if they have a coach that is a great politician, super salesman and magician along with being a good teacher of the game, he may be able to keep the parents in line and off the field long enough to establish something.

  6. My comment was NOT that there are no +players in small schools or that I was "knocking small schools" and I don't really know how you read that into my comment. My comment was based on what I was told by 2 MLB scout and both from diff clubs, that is in itself proof that the scouts do look in smaller schools. My comment was about the compitition level and a player making the transition from a small school to MLB as a early pick, I wasn't refering to college. Oldschooler you made the comment and somewhat called me out, refering to my lack of knowledge of talent, well I can say the stands are full of know it alls. You claim to be a "scout of many yrs" well, if you know how to get in the 'Scouting Bureau' notes you will find the concern of this transition of players entering Professional ball. As a parent of a 21 4A MVP, 4 yrs on a FULL college schollarship, 2 starts in the JUCO World Series, twice drafted by the Yankees and once by the Rangers and a Professional player>>my proof is in the pudding. I guess the reason we have never crossed pathes is you were busy scouting Homeschoolers. BTW sorry for any misspelled words as I didn't think they counted off.

Sorry 643 for getting your dander up; but I will just ditto my last post to you with emphasis on keeping your head in the books, talking about a subject thats not so foreign to you or above your head, see if you can't get a tutor to help you with your spelling and gramar and tell your son that I don't remember him either. The more you try to sound as though you are an authority, the less convincing you become to everyone. (Just trying to help you out); and by the way just who's "Scouting Bureau" are you referring.

  7. Well i just dont like when people dont know what thier talking about i like to catch people up with the facts .

You can certainly tell from all these post that Buna and Kountze is becoming to be a early rivalry in this district and that baseball is starting to flourish in southeast Texas.

I've been to quite a few games in 24-2a and there is ample talent with a surprising amount of young talent on it's way up. Buna is a dominant team this year with good pitching, and promising next year. By the same token Kountze has a very promising future with NEW talent and by the two games played against each other this year, it could have gone either way, (being a one run difference in each game played.)Of course there's other talent to be wary of in this district in the way of Deweyville's great upcoming talent, and lets not forget the little pitcher from Anahuac, or some good hitting ability coming from Warren, and I'm certainly not trying to exclude the other teams in this district, with great promise.

  8. Big school v/s small does matter in pitching and hitting and IMO dont matter in the least in fielding. I am a firm believer in playing UP to your competition. If you remember back a cpl of yrs back their was a kid in 1a> Colmesneil (I think) with some GAS that several Pro scouts shyed away from with the reason being he was in 1a school allthough he still went early and ended up strugling a yr or 2. You can take a star pitcher or hitter in 1a and most (not all) will be ave at best at a 4 or 5a school. Just my 2 cents.

It's evident 643 that 2cents is all you have to spend, because your knowledge of talent is very limited. I've been a scout for many years and I don't have any idea what player you're refering to. Anyone with any knowledge of the area talent knows that you are blowing smoke. Keep your head in your books and away from knocking your local area talent. Thank's

  9. Hey ABCD, it's not ecscalade, it's escalate, and yes it did escalate quickly.People need to get their panties out of the huge knot they are in just because they are jealous that WB produces more quality players than any other school in the area, and they know that they CANT compete with the mighty bruins.

Sounds as though West Brook has their Cheerleaders all standing up and making statements about their team which is a good one I know; but I'm inclined to agree with strosfan, that sometimes as good, sometimes better ball players are found at smaller institutions as well. That's why scouts will make the rounds to all schools with named talent to check out all that may apply. Just hope that your coaching staff at your school does a good job with his or her reports.

  10. On another commment in another topic and for the people who asked " THE KID " so called they said he wasnt that good . The stats for this kid speaks for itself, from what i was told he is batting a 500 batting avg. and whats amazing is no errors. I dont know if its true but im pretty sure it is and for a freshman its not bad ! ! ! To me it sounds like some KIDS from buna are JEALOUS ! ! !  ;D

If anyone has any complaint of a player, it should be taken up with that perspective player elsewhere and not here in this positive post. I'm sorry you have had children respond to your post or coment in a negative way. Because of so much attention to this one player, maybe I should scout him out for myself, that should tell the tale.

  11. Out of the few games that i have made this year . I have seen three players with cannons. A sophmore from Buna, a junior from Dewyville, and i went to a jv tournament early this year to scout up coming talent and found a freshman for Kountze . I have a couple friends that are coaches and i was told "correct me if im wrong" that this kid was moved up to varsity ...  :o

  12. Interesting statement there etbu, I have seen this comment posted on hear several times and would like to do a comparison between some dads I know and some local coaches.

I know several dads / summer league coaches who know more about the game than most coaches who do it for a living. One of my neighbors who happens to coach his son, played D-1 ball and 4 years in the minors now if you compare that to most local high school coaches who played some high school ball and maybe a couple of years at a juco or D-3 school which most of them dont even have that much experience.. So when you say some parents think they are experts be carefull, some of them are !! I on the other hand played and know the game but could not coach a ball to roll down hill !!! Takes a special person to be able to relay that type of info and get kids to perform at their best in stressfull situations..

I watched a couple of coaches several years back in the Orange pony division (Nephews Team) that would coach the pants off of most, these guys had calls, signals, plays and options for every situation that came up.

I am not knocking any coaches, just stating that a lot of our area parents know  the game and know it well, that is why we have some of the best talent in the state right here in South East Texas !

Sorry daddy but i do not agree ,if those parents are that good tell them to go get a degree and come coach my son ! ! !
