  1. Hmmmm, I'm thinking I have heard that B4 and twice in a week it HAS haooened.
  2. Maybe after the performance against Jasper it will get the ball rolling for him.
  3. HJs pitcher>>>>one that has not got A look yet. Sounds like the Treece had the game face on tonight. Good game Hawks and awesome performance by both pitchers.
  4. I'm thinking if you check C Gilligans history of recruiting local players, if he's AFTER a player, usually he will try and get them to sign a letter of intent in the early signing period. I think the key word in your post is >> WAS
  5. If you recieved a reply back from your letter to the editor you did well, seems as if the ones I wrote yrs back fell on deaf ears. Seems as if they have their favorites even with the coverage @Lamar>>Tim Erickson, from HJ was and mite still be leading the SWC in ERA but gets no props ??? but the boys from Mid-County and New York get wrote up weekly, but no line scores ever. You think its possible Tim is being hid, naaaw, I know C Gilligan wouldn't do that.
  6. Thanks, would take a little work gettn starting but would be a great asset once done. The stats in the Houston paper in '98' without a dought helped us.
  7. HF guys, whats Coach Landry's, I know he heard some of the best from one of the best, although it mite not be printable here.
  8. I was chastized about my comment on 1A v/s 5A but agree, and stats, its the hitters friend that keeps them, therefore some batted balls that were errowed counts as hits. I have heard both parents and kids say "if it dont touch the fielders glove its a hit>>WRONG
  9. IMO I really think a good coach with a ave team (talent) will come out on top of a team loaded with talent and a ave coach.
  10. I'm a firm believer in 'forget the hook, give m tha GAS'
  11. Don't know if this 'random thought' would fit but (new member)heres a shot from the hip. With the thread about 'strikeouts and pitchers, and the total lack of promo from our local newspapers, would it be possible to put together a factual list of these type stats here? Surely would require a min BA ERAs ect. I have noticed in that thread a cpl of coaches (I think) that have responded. W
  12. There are no ties in BB I got some serious GAS comming from the 'pen' I wish I could have taught my dependant, as it would have saved me lots of time, excess milage on my truck and $$$$ not to mention trying to crowd all the info recieved into my few remaining brain cells. I sure glad the trainee was NOT as good as his dad or he would've sucked. I guess, since we were refering to players in this thread, I should have said early on "I'm a has been there" as my trainee is the 'has been'. Didn't say the 'S' word once Hmmm
  13. Are the Benwaughs still around? Sorry for the spelling last visited with him in 99 at a tryout Seminole Jr Col. put on at Orangefield and he seemed and said to be in good health.
  14. I'm sure his feelings are, rather not comment. Will say the soph fell right in place and to say he was a little nervous is a understatement. he did go 3-? with a nice short stroke. Good move for the coach on the starter, Jasper will see Treece with his game face on, I hope the Jasper coaches took notes watching Treece pitch against Silsbee, they mite need them.
  15. Oldskoolcat, I reelly didn't know they counted offf for speling I guess it oldtimers dizeez. You asked me "whos scouting bureau" OMG this in itself speaks VOLUMES. Tell me tho, do you carry a portable mound in the back of your '97' Toyoto to check the 'homeskoolers' out, you know to see if they 'stay back and finish well' or 'thro easily with a loose arm', and how do you check hitters to see if they have 'the short stroke' or possibly swing with a 'long arm bar'. You chastized me for replying to a ? on a player in 1a v/s 4or5a, when I answered I wasn't speaking of a player going to colege nor being noticed, SIMPLY the competition level. Got a good tip for you tho, I hear theres kid in the instructional lg in Twin Co with all 5 tools and a plus arm. Mite fit in for who your scouting for, who was it again, the school of the future Caney Head U. Once again this response is from a 'has been' NOT a 'wanna be' or a 'never will be' >>OMG "whos scouting bureau" now thats CLASSIC
  16. HELLOOOO, this is nothing new, it just didn't start. Seems as if I had mentioned this VERY thing on the 'strikout leaders' thread. IMO 'which means little' it has got worse than when someone close to me played. Seems as it WAS slanted in the late 90s to the Mid-County teams but now they have totally outdone themselves with NO COVERAGE but if I want to know anything about fascar I could get all the info I wanted on Sun. OH' OH I forgor to mention HOCKEY, how many young hockey players do we have in our area trying to get to the next level. OH I forgot, care to learn how to camp in Colo and catch Rainbows.
  17. Hmmmm a Soph at first No Monse,a Jr starts and goes 5 and a 'unsigned', 'nobody lookn at' Sr finishing and beating a top 10 ranked school Hmmm. Sounds like someone made the fatal mistake of "NEVER UNERESTAMATE YOUR OPPONENT" outstanding job.
  18. No creditabilty needed on my end. Just complimenting a coach that is a Baseball coach and not a Tennis coach with a baseball team, not to mention one that is has and continues to promote his players. Just keep replacing that scratch golfers divets.
  19. Its not surprising that Buna is deep in pitching as Russel was a pitcher @ the college level and has some pull at Panola. He will go the extra step in helping his players and has in the past.
  20. Aaron has had the proper training and it shows in his mechanics, could be a little better on the mental part of the game but that will come easily. I had a talk with his dad about not showcaseing him last yr and he's checking into some JUCO tryouts. I'm thinking, (although it has been said that I can't reconginize talent), if he don't get a offer he will walk on easily at most JUCOs and will end up recieving a ride of some sort when his ability shines.
  21. Thanks for the props Diamond J, I did get my advice from 'has beens' and was all good. Have sat and listened to MANY 'wanna be's' that ended up never was. Seems as if there are many here.
  22. You are correct and as a matter of FACT it was higher than .700 in both HJ HS and 2 yrs at JUCO >>11-1 with a complete game win at the 99 JUCO W Series the first yr, and a 10-1 the second yr with a loss at the 2001 series, so you do the math. My comments were intended to help players get exposed, I'm not a 'wanna be' I'm a 'has been'. And YES I'm still proud of my sons now ended baseball playing days and only comment as a 'has been' If we were just getting into what most want from this great game, I would ask a 'has been' over a 'wanna be'
  23. It has been posted on the thread 'best middle inf' of "If the coaching staff do their job" well I will say very few do or at least that is what we have encountered and my sons coach had nothing to do with my sons advancing to the next level. I am a firm believer in attending camps, tryouts and any available exposure. I have watched LOTS of JUCO ball where IMO(although it has been said here my knowledge of talent is limited) there were several boys my son played with that could have been starters in several of these JUCOs but failed to get the exposure needed.
  24. My comment was NOT that there are no +players in small schools or that I was "knocking small schools" and I don't really know how you read that into my comment. My comment was based on what I was told by 2 MLB scout and both from diff clubs, that is in itself proof that the scouts do look in smaller schools. My comment was about the compitition level and a player making the transition from a small school to MLB as a early pick, I wasn't refering to college. Oldschooler you made the comment and somewhat called me out, refering to my lack of knowledge of talent, well I can say the stands are full of know it alls. You claim to be a "scout of many yrs" well, if you know how to get in the 'Scouting Bureau' notes you will find the concern of this transition of players entering Professional ball. As a parent of a 21 4A MVP, 4 yrs on a FULL college schollarship, 2 starts in the JUCO World Series, twice drafted by the Yankees and once by the Rangers and a Professional player>>my proof is in the pudding. I guess the reason we have never crossed pathes is you were busy scouting Homeschoolers. BTW sorry for any misspelled words as I didn't think they counted off.
