Not sure where you’re getting your info? Matthew Southern went 32-44 for 301 yards with 1 td and 1 int in a 29-13 loss to College Station. If he played 2 quarters against PNG it was the only game all season he didn’t register a single passing attempt or rushing yards. He was hurt against Lake Creek on the first drive and had a stat line of 1-2 for 3 yards, he missed the Rudder game that followed. He was 12-21 for 147 yards and 0 tds against Marshall last week. They probably only had 270 yards of total offense. Huntsville’s stud rb graduated last year. Neither the Riggins or Meyers kid they have running the ball will be much of a factor for Crosby, Huntsville’s rb would probably only start for 3 teams in our district. I agree all those stats don’t mean anything, I’m just tying to figure out how someone has looked at what Huntsville has done this year and think they’ll roll Crosby. They haven’t blown out anybody except bad teams. I wouldn’t call a one score game in the 4th with Marshall until the wr playing qb threw a terrible pick a real blowout. Seems like people are basing their opinions off last year when they had a lot better players. If Marshall’s qb hadn’t transferred this year I don’t think Huntsville would’ve stayed anywhere close to them.

I see talk of the qb coming back and while he’s better than the backup I’ll also point a couple of things out. Huntsville’s qb got hurt against Lake Creek a few weeks ago and missed the last game of the season, he played in the rest. In the full games he’s played he averages about 175ypg passing and has 11 tds with 7 ints. He has 129 rushing yards on the season and is not a running threat at all except around the goal line. 5 of those tds passes came against struggling Cleveland, 4 of the ints came against Cons. though. FBW’s qb is a better prospect, plus the Hornets only average 93ypg rushing as a team. Huntsville’s o-line is good size but I honestly feel their offense is a better matchup for Crosby’s defense than FBW’s was. All that being said, it doesn’t matter if Crosby can gets stops if they can’t score themselves. I think this is where the Crosby athletes come into play though. We may not be able to run the ball with much consistency against their front but we may be able to hit 5 or 6 big plays which is all we might need. They only averaged about 25ppg against the playoff teams on their schedule and the qb played in all of them except PNG. I expect this one to be pretty tight unless Crosby turns it over.

Area round game from Randall Reed Stadium in New Caney 11/23 @2pm I guess Code Red ain’t dead? Coming off a game where they set the school playoff scoring record (70) Crosby draws the #4 seed from district 10-5A in the Huntsville Hornets. Huntsville knocked off undefeated district champion Marshall from 9-5A in the opening round. Matchup wise I think this one is pretty simple. Huntsville has two three star prospects in the front seven and two 270+ pound defensive linemen to pair with them. If Crosby can run the ball the way they have the last three weeks they’re probably going to win the game. It’s going to look a lot like what we faced against Manvel so it’s a tall order regardless and probably the first time Crosby feels the loss of who I think was our best offensive lineman. If Crosby can limit the penalties and turnovers they should have some success on Huntsville’s defense. It’s good but it’s not T’Vondre Sweat good anymore. Offensively I think it’s safe to say Huntsville is qb driven. Their offense isn’t as good as the regional final team last year but it could be a bad matchup for Crosby. QB is the coach’s son and very good at running the offense plus he’s played in big games during their run last season. I believe he was hurt a few games ago and came back against Marshall last week. QB will run even less than the one from FBW but gets it out of his hand quick to some solid receivers. Just not real sure how to feel about facing a pass-heavy team after giving up 476 to FBW’s qb in basically three quarters?

That sucks. Banks not playing is the reason I thought NS lost to Katy earlier this year. Going to be tough to get past Katy now, although Ridge Point almost knocked them off in bi-district. I think Banks and the kid from Rockwall are the most impactful receivers in 6A. Kid was beast last year against Duncanville as a sophomore. -

Crosby held FBW to 89 yards on 34 rushing attempts, their 1,000 yards rb who actually did play was held to 66 yards on 22 attempts. We forced four turnovers and dropped another sure int. Rufus Scott carved up Manvel too, and you see bad their defense was against Nederland, right? I’m not trying to sell anything, I’ve seen my team play a heck of a lot more playoff games than you have seen yours so I’m pretty confident about what I was looking at. Yes, Crosby absolutely needs to play BETTER defense if they want to continue to advance but the only other kid who has arm talent Crosby just saw is FB Marshall’s qb. -

Devon Achane - 19 carries for 252 yards and 4 tds. I don’t think A&M Con. has any better luck against him next week either. Him and Hornsby are both seniors so at least if you draw them next year at least you got a real shot. They’ll probably the only one of the current “contenders” still in 5A-D2 region 3 after realignment. -

Back to back weeks of putting up over 600 yards of offense. Kind of scary to give up 560 yards on defense but Rufus Scott is the truth. He was helped by Crosby’s soft coverage but it is what it is. 28-38 for 476 yards and 4 tds. Crosby picked him off three times but I would still say he’s the best qb Crosby has been on the field with this year and he’s only a junior so we could see them next year. Nice work by the big boys up front last night, they paved the way for 464 team rushing yards. Branch and Dunn combined for 30 attempts, 360 yards and 6 tds. It won’t be the first dumb thing I’m accused of saying, but even though we gave up 42(35 on the starters) I think the defense played pretty well. FBW QB just seemed to put it right between the numbers every third and long in the first half. [Hidden Content] -

Not the year P.A.M. wanted but I would be more concerned about the next two after realignment. P.A.M. will probably draw the 9th district again. The only thing that will change in 5A-D1 district 10 is replacing Manvel for Shadow Creek -
Yeah, I was giving them a lot of credit considering what East Texas usually is. Mathis went back to Desoto this year though. I think Crosby can beat Huntsville if the defense can make a few more stops, especially on theirs down.

NC finishes with the dreaded 10-1 record as I eluded to in the prediction thread but it’s really no shame on this one. NC is a good team and still had a good season. To put it in perspective; Foster, Angleton and Shadow Creek have all made the semis in the last 4 years from that district. Hightower(who played for a title against Allen) and Friendswood are the other squads. Truly the “district of death”. -
Marshall’s stud qb transferred to a school in Shreveport after like the 2nd or 3rd game of the season. They had the Arkansas wr commit playing qb and really couldn’t throw. Can’t say I’m really surprised by this one. I thought Marshall would still win after going 7-0 in that district but it’s November.

Lmao, you got me on that one. Dave Tepper is the old ESPN 97.5 radio guy I listened to, I was posting during the PNG vs FB Marshall highlights on Fox Sports -

Crosby gave up 42 tonight, how was I wrong in our evaluation? PNG and Ned both lost by 5 tds, how was I wrong in those evaluations? Frank Brown, who’s the 2nd best rb in this region, didn’t play tonight and you think going 3-1 on evaluations is bad? Got you👍 -
Definitely the shocker of the night. Nasty combination of a DFW/East Texas district they matched up with but wow. Wonder if this means we get a Westbrook/Westlake vs Westfield matchup instead this year taking into considering Longview only beat them by 3. Nothing more than a reach but an interesting development.

Wow, he didn’t play at all? Kid had over 2,000 all-purpose in the regular season. Put over 300 on Manvel. It’s all about how the matchups play out in the post-season. -

Someone can always chime in and say you know more but they won’t. They’ve seen almost 10 years of me putting work on SETX. You barely know about your own team, I’m a regular dude who gets replies to pretty much every tweet I make to Matt Stepp or Dave Tepper. I don’t care about Crosby doing anything in the past either, I’m getting flak from Crosby fans for nor being excited enough about a team that just tied the school scoring record in a playoff game. I’m truly glad BH has finally won a playoff game after investing half a million dollars in a coach. Remember what I said though. Reality always seems to roll around in November. -

Not really. I saw on the Friday football app earlier today that Frank Brown was banged up and y’all were going to have a big advantage. Those are the breaks you need in the playoffs and y’all got one, congrats. I’m truly happy for y’all. Nobody on this site knows thinks you know more football than me. This is BH’s second playoff win since they’ve moved to 5A, focus that instead of talking s**t. BH didn’t prove anything except they’re willing to pay $150k+ for a bi-district win. Crosby probably has 10 bi-district wins the last 15 years. -

QB from Willowridge probably has 300 yards passing at the half. Couple of questionable play calls for Crosby keeping it closer than it probably should be but to be fair, we’ve had 2 probable td drives stopped on poor execution by the players and a flat out senseless penalty. -
My bad, we hired Rio in January. I was thinking about when when he left. Still the same situation though. We didn’t play Spring ball so that we could have the two preseason scrimmages like we did this year.
-
You could probably cut some of the last comments and put them on the Willowridge vs Crosby thread and lock ours if need be.
-
Exactly, same situation as Riordan who was hired right around the beginning of March in 2012. We lost the opener to a good Ned team and finished the season 8-4. Lost to Manor after blowing a second half lead, Manor won the region. We looked good all year though. Crosby was ranked #2 in the state last year, if Howard doesn’t tear his ACL Crosby goes 10-0 for the second time under Rio. That’s even with the financial cloud. You should be concerned if you had to go to overtime with a team that just lost by 35. The kids don’t suck at all, I’ve said continuously that Crosby has the most talent in the district. These kids didn’t go through any adversity, they didn’t have their school shot up like Santa Fe. They weren’t flooded out of their homes like Vidor. If you’re calling 40 kids in a classroom, double stacked busses or not or kneel in the ball at the end of the game adversity then ok, but hiring a coach in May isn’t. With that being said I’ll ask you. Why did Crosby until about 2 weeks ago continuously kill themselves with pre-snap penalties? How do you show up for a district championship game and get destroyed by a mediocre team? With the best talent in the district, why are we playing a toss up game with basically and inner-city HISD school? Crosby fans used to think this was a bad thing, I guess now we’re supposed to be excited for finishing second in maybe worst district in the region.
