I agree 100%.  Rules are rules and some punishment needs to be handed down, just not on the kids, in my opinion.  Having said all of that, I would question whether or not a courtesy runner is "in the game."  Since he is a courtesy runner, he didn't start, and non-starters are not allowed to re-enter a game once he is pulled.  A courtesy runner is still eligible to enter the game after running; therefore, in my opinion, that player has not "entered" the game officially and thus the game should not count toward the total games played.

But using that same logic that he is not "in" the game, should the stolen base or run he scores count if he is not "in" the game?  Obviously it does and in a big game a fast courtesy runner being put in for a slow pitcher or catcher can completely change the outcome, so it has to count as participating.

Now I know that none of the outcomes of the BC games would have been any different, they have been beating everybody soundly!  But that may not be the case next year with any team in the area, and if there is no punishment handed down it sets a precedent that you should be able to break rules with no punishment for the future.  Now, do I think having to forfeit the games is a little harsh, absolutely.  But something has to be done to make sure everyone follows rules that are put in place for a reason.

Just my two cents which mean absolutely nothing!

  2. Our local 22-4A teams may have to wait a but to see who they play.  21-4A is a mess and a tough one at that!  Splendora is the champ and will play our #4.  If Splendora beats Liberty tomorrow there will be a 3 way tie for 2nd, in which all the involved teams have split with each other and will have to play a round robin to determine 2nd, 3rd & 4th.  Those 3 teams are Liberty, Huffman and Livingston.

I would think that it would be very hard to prove how many games someone has played on jv.  Some schools do not keep books for under level games.  Im not even really sure how you would prove if they played or did not play in a JV game as far as I know there is not a record kept for that.

    I agree!

Looks like the JV had 11 scheduled games before the varsity game against silsbee.  If he played in all 11 he would have needed to actually play in 7 games on varsity to make him ineligible at that point.  Just dressing out and being in the dug out does not count.  The player has to actually enter the game to count as a game.  If a jv tournament was rained out it then adds more games he can play in since he didn't play in 3 tournaments.

How many varsity games did the kid play in before district started?  I dont know the answer, just asking the question.

  5. *Disclaimer*

All 2nd hand and hearsay information that I have heard from several different people.  So it could be 100% true, or nothing to it at all.  Time will tell.

Rumor has it a kid was playing JV and was being moved up to the Varsity and being used as a courtesy/pinch runner.  Supposedly he played the last game he could legally play in a season against Silsbee JV a little while back so he would be ineligible beginning with the Silsbee varsity game that night.
